Westbound lanes of Hwy. 402 reopen after crash causes acid spill
The crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle happened Wednesday, after 1 p.m. ET police said. Crews who responded found material leaking from the tractor-trailer that was carrying approximately 45,000 litres of monochloroacetic acid.
About 100 litres of the acid was spilled, the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks told CBC News in a statement.
The westbound lanes of hwy. 402 between Centre Road and Kerwood Road were closed Wednesday and Thursday as hazmat crews worked to clean up the spill. The roads reopened early Friday morning, according to a post published by police on X at 1:45 a.m.
The driver of a passenger vehicle cut off the tractor-trailer and the truck ended up in the ditch. No one was seriously injured in the crash, police said.

Updated [hour]:[minute] [AMPM] [timezone], [monthFull] [day], [year] INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Denny Hamlin never wanted to drive for a team other than Joe Gibbs Racing. A two-year contract extension may seal the deal. On Friday, five days after winning his 58th Cup race, the 44-year-old Hamlin signed what he said would likely be his final contract extension. JGR officials only said the deal was for 'multiple' years, though Hamlin noted he didn't want anything longer than two years. 'Two years is what I was comfortable with,' he said. 'I wanted to make sure I gave them the proper time and make sure I commit to them for not one year but multiple years, to let them try to continue to build the program. I want to make sure I'm still at my peak form in my final year.' There's no indication Hamlin is slowing down. He owns a series best four wins this season and has the top points total, 663, outside the Hendrick Motorsports stable. Only Chase Elliott, William Byron and Kyle Larson enter the weekend with more points. A win in Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway would allow Hamlin to complete a career sweep of NASCAR's crown jewel races. He's already won three Daytona 500s, three Southern 500s and one Coca-Cola 600. 'Adding another crown jewel would be big and then to have swept them all,' said Hamlin, who will make his 17th career Indy start. 'I mean certainly the names are very, very prestigious on that list, so it would certainly mean a lot to me. It would be just another feather in the cap.' Hamlin has done just about everything else since his first race in 2005 — except win a series title. With 706 career starts, all with JGR, he's the longest tenured driver in team history even though he missed one race this year after the birth of his first son and third child. He ranks 11th on the Cup's career victory list. He also owns 244 top-five finishes, 369 top-10s and has won the pole 44 times. He and NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan even co-own NASCAR's 23XI Racing team, which fields cars for Bubba Wallace, Riley Herbst and Tyler Reddick. Hamlin's team and Front Row Motorsports are locked in a legal battle over antitrust allegations against NASCAR. 'He's very, very high racing IQ,' Reddick said, describing Hamlin. 'I feel like the last couple of years he's done more sharing of that with everybody, with the platforms he uses. For me, he's really helped me understand short track racing. I feel like between him (Hamlin) and Bubba, they helped me better understand what to look for in my car.' And yet, Hamlin also acknowledged he's not really ready to retire yet and he might not be in two years, either. Instead, he wants to see how it feels to be out of the driver's seat, knowing comebacks in this sport happen routinely. Should he have second thoughts, he might even return to JGR. 'I really appreciate Denny and everything he has meant to our organization,' Gibbs said in a statement. 'It is just really special when you think about everything we've experienced over the past 20 years, from that first moment when J.D. (Gibbs) recognized his talent at a test session, until now. It is remarkable in any sport to compete at the level Denny has for this long and we are thrilled he has been able to spend his entire career with us.' But Hamlin's decision also came down to more than sentiment. 'I'd kind of like to see where I'm at two years from now, where the team's at, what's their Plan B, where they are with that and then just how competitive I am, how good do I feel how much and how bad do I want it,' Hamlin said. Hyundai reports record-high revenue of $35.2B in Q2

Hyundai Motor Group reported Q2 revenue of $35.2 billion, its highest-ever quarterly revenue in company history and a year-over-year increase of 7.3%, the automaker announced in its earnings release on Thursday. Its profits fell to $2.36 billion versus $3 billion in the same period a year ago, a YoY decline of $640 million. The automaker's Q2 operating profit also fell from 8.2% in Q1 to 7.5%. The company cited the costs of offering higher incentives amid growing industry competition, as well as the impact of tariffs and the current global trade climate for the decline in profit. Hyundai reported global retail sales of 1,043,000 vehicles in Q2, representing a modest 0.9% increase compared with the same period last year. The company's core automotive revenue increased 5.1% YoY to $26.9 billion, also the highest-ever for a single quarter. Hyundai attributed some of the sales gains on strong demand in North America, with quarterly retail vehicle sales in the U.S. up 10.3% YoY to 256,000 units. SUV and crossover models accounted for 75% of the automaker's wholesale sales in the U.S. in Q2. Hyundai also reported brisk sales of electrified models in Q2, with a 36.4% YoY increase to 262,126 vehicles. The automaker cited strong hybrid vehicle demand in global markets, as well as an increase of EV sales in Europe for the sales gains in the segment. Sales of electrified models were boosted by the sales momentum of the Santa Fe HEV and Tucson and Santa Fe plug-in hybrid models. But Hyundai aims to further increase its electrified vehicle sales with the recently launched three-row IONIQ 9 electric SUV. But with a slowdown in EV adoption in North America, including the loss of federal EV tax credit on Sept. 30, Hyundai aims to grow its hybrid vehicle sales in the interim, an initiative it announced last year. In April, the automaker unveiled its next-generation hybrid system that it claims offers 19% more power and a 45% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to internal combustion engines of the same class. Looking ahead, the impacts of tariffs on imported steel and battery raw materials have led some automakers to reevaluate their supply chains in order to lessen the impacts that tariffs may have on their bottom line, including Hyundai. In May, Hyundai signed a memorandum of understanding with Posco Group to shore up the domestic sources for steel and raw materials for batteries to help mitigate tariffs, which includes the construction of a steel mill in Louisiana. The plant is expected to produce 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually for Hyundai's U.S. vehicle assembly plants when it begins operations in 2029.
