Major media say Gaza staff face starvation as 40 Palestinians died from malnutrition in July - War on Gaza
'We are desperately concerned for our journalists in Gaza, who are increasingly unable to feed themselves and their families,' said a joint statement by The Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Reuters and the BBC.
'For many months, these independent journalists have been the world's eyes and ears on the ground in Gaza. They are now facing the same dire circumstances as those they are covering.'
The statement called on Israel to allow journalists in and out of Gaza and allow adequate food supplies into the territory.
'We are desperately concerned for our journalists in Gaza, who are increasingly unable to feed themselves and their families,' said a joint statement by The Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, Reuters and the BBC.
Israel has barred international media from entering Gaza independently throughout the 21-month war.
The statement came a day after more than 100 charity and human rights groups said that Israel's blockade and ongoing military offensive are pushing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip toward starvation.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Health Ministry said 48 Palestinians have died of malnutrition this past month, adding that 59 Palestinians died of malnutrition so far in 2025, up from 50 in 2024, and four in 2023 when Israel started its war on Gaza.
In the most recent cases, a man and a woman died of malnutrition Wednesday, the Shifa Hospital told The Associated Press.
Of the 113 that died of malnutrition in Gaza since 2023, 81 were children, the Health Ministry said.
Since Israel's aid blockade in March, Gaza's humanitarian situation has become dire, alarming international organisations. The United Nations World Food Program has said 100,000 women and children are facing famine levels of starvation.
The International Rescue Community said their teams in Gaza have reported a surge in cases of children being rushed to the hospital due to malnutrition.
'Their small bodies are shutting down — they can't breathe, their immune systems are collapsing, and they are highly vulnerable to infection,' IRC's acting director in the occupied Palestinian Territories, Scott Lea, said in a statement Wednesday.
'Their lives are hanging by a thread.'

Israel keeps targeting aid-seekers in Gaza, kills 18 amid declared humanitarian pause - War on Gaza
Israel killed at least 18 Palestinians, including two children, on Sunday morning as they waited for food aid in Gaza—just hours after announcing a 'tactical pause' in its war on the Strip, medical sources told Palestinian news agency WAFA. The victims were struck by Israeli fire near the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid distribution centres in the southern cities of Khan Younis and Rafah, as well as in central Gaza. Earlier in the day, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported that Israeli occupation forces had killed 11 people and injured over 36 others in the past 24 hours in attacks targeting Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid. This brings the total number of Palestinians killed while seeking food to 1,132, with more than 7,521 others wounded. Gaza's hospitals also recorded six additional deaths from famine and malnutrition over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of such deaths to 133, including 87 children. Meanwhile, Israel continued its intense bombardment across the Strip, targeting residential homes and tents sheltering displaced people. In total, hospitals received 88 fatalities on Sunday—including 12 bodies recovered from under rubble—and 374 wounded. The ongoing massacres of aid-seekers come despite Israel's declaration of a "tactical pause" in military operations in parts of the Gaza Strip, ostensibly to allow the passage of United Nations (UN) aid convoys. The move follows mounting international outrage over mass starvation in the besieged enclave and the nearly 22-month-long war. According to the Israeli army, the pause applies only to areas where its forces are 'not currently active,' including Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah, and Gaza City. The pause is scheduled to run daily from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Israel added that 'designated secure routes' would remain open across the Strip to enable UN and NGO convoys to deliver food and medicine. However, it emphasized that military operations would continue elsewhere. In its latest update, the Palestinian Health Ministry said Sunday that the death toll from Israel's war on Gaza has reached 59,821, with 144,851 wounded since 7 October 2023. Of that total, 8,657 have been killed and 32,810 injured since 18 March, when Israel unilaterally broke a two-month ceasefire with Hamas—brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the US—resuming its genocidal war on Gaza. Twelve people killed near aid site, hospital says, as Israeli military begins pause in Gaza operations
As the Israeli military begins what calls a tactical pause in operations in three parts of Gaza, a dozen people are reported to have been killed while trying to get food aid from a distribution point in central Gaza. Al-Awda Hospital said Sunday that it had received 12 bodies, including those of four children and one woman and more than 100 people who had been injured after Israeli forces opened fire near an aid point in the central Gaza Strip operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). It's unclear whether the incident occurred before the tactical pause came into effect at 10am local time, nor whether it was inside the area covered by the pause. CNN has reached out to the Israeli military for comment. There have also been further casualties among people seeking aid in northern Gaza, according to hospital officials. Eleven bodies have been brought into Al-Shifa hospital since Saturday afternoon from the area used by aid convoys coming in from the Zikim crossing, according to Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the hospital's director. Abu Salmiya told CNN that 120 injured people had also arrived at the hospital. The Palestinian Red Crescent said its field hospital in the north had received two bodies and 54 wounded people after 'the targeting of civilians waiting for aid in the Zikim area' in the north-west of Gaza Strip and an airstrike in Gaza City.

Israel announces humanitarian truce in Gaza to facilitate aid distribution
Following international condemnation of Israel's brutal war on Gaza, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that a humanitarian truce would be implemented this morning on Sunday, in civilian centers and humanitarian corridors to facilitate aid distribution in Gaza, according to international and Israeli media. The Israeli Foreign Ministry added that it expects the United Nations to collect and distribute large quantities of aid 'without any delay or excuses.' According to the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the planned humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip will begin on Sunday and will be implemented in several locations, including northern Gaza. The newspaper added: 'The ceasefire will be implemented in at least one location at 10:00 am.' Numerous international organizations and countries allied with Israel have intensified their criticisms regarding Tel Aviv's implementation of a 'siege and starvation of citizens in Gaza, cutting off food and medical supplies. This comes days after Western countries criticized Israel for the 'brutal killing of Palestinians,' particularly at humanitarian aid distribution sites. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reported that the number of elderly people killed by the famine reached approximately 1,200, in addition to cases of fainting and temporary memory loss among doctors.
