Grand Teton National Park tourist must improvise to escape grizzly bear
A tourist in Grand Teton National Park found himself outside his car and just feet from a large male grizzly bear recently as guides and other tourists implored him to get back into his vehicle.
The tourist tried to comply, but discovered that his car door was locked. Choosing a quick escape versus trying to unlock the door through the window open, the tourist improvised.
National Park News described the scene as 'wild' and explained: "Guides yelled at him to get back in his vehicle, which he quickly discovered was locked," said the experts at BackCountry Safaris. "He jumped through his window, tucking his feet in just as the bear turned the corner of his car."

BackCountry Safaris described the tourist as a gentleman, but also a "touron."
Grizzly bears are often encountered near roads in Grand Teton National Park and nearby Yellowstone National Park.
Tourists are supposed to stay at least 100 yards from bears when they're observing wildlife from outside their vehicles.

Sometimes they mock charge as a warning, in which case you should remain calm and give them more space. If an elephant really charges, run! Run in a zig-zag pattern and try to find something to put in between you and the elephant…a rock, tree, or vehicle, for example. If possible, try to climb the tree or rock to get above the elephant. It sounds scary, but you can avoid these kinds of situations altogether by giving them their space and admiring them from a distance. The officer handed me a laminated card and said I could use it to cut to the front of the line once the issue was fixed. It was a busy travel day, and there was a short line at the check-in counter. It only took the agent a few seconds to make the change, and I quickly walked-trotted back to security. I felt a little sheepish using the card to claim a spot at the front of the line, but I was short on time. Luckily, no one around me seemed to mind. I made my flight, but I was lucky. The incident has changed the way I fly. Since then, I've observed numerous passengers get turned away at the security booth because their birthday was incorrectly entered in the ticketing system. I always shoot them a look of sympathy as someone who has been there. Travel is stressful enough; don't let a tiny mistake ruin your plans. My airport mishap taught me a crucial lesson: When another party books your ticket, always double-check details like your birthdate before arriving at the airport.
