Palestinians queue up for aid parcels sent by UAE to Gaza
Images of the queues came a day after teams from the UAE's Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, including Emirates Red Crescent staff, gave out food parcels to Palestinians in northern Gaza, state news agency Wam reported.
"The aid was delivered through an authorised distribution centre in Gaza city, following text message notifications sent to beneficiaries specifying the time and location for collection," Wam said.
Distribution was "organised and secure", with the aid parcels delivered "efficiently and safely".
"Emirati aid convoys had entered northern Gaza at the end of last week, carrying food supplies for community kitchens, bread production materials and food parcels – reaffirming the UAE's ongoing and clear commitment to providing support and assistance to the people of Gaza," the statement said.
Thirteen UAE aid lorries carrying essential food and relief kits for children had arrived in Gaza on Wednesday night.
The latest assistance is part of the UAE's humanitarian operation in support of Palestinians in the besieged enclave, which was launched in response to the outbreak of war with Israel on October 7, 2023.
More than 55,000 tonnes of aid has been delivered on more than 500 flights, six transport ships and 2,500 lorries under the initiative.

The UAE has announced the launch of a new project to supply desalinated water to the southern Gaza Strip through a new pipeline. Under the project, water will be delivered from the Egyptian border, state news agency Wam reported. The pipeline, 6.7km long and 315mm wide, will link the desalination plant built by the Emirates on the Egyptian side to displaced Palestinians between Khan Younis and Rafah. This project is the latest in a series of initiatives launched by the UAE to address the collapse of infrastructure, particularly water resources, in the enclave. It comes as displaced Palestinians in 18 areas of Gaza are being forced to move again as the Israeli army announced eviction orders "for their safety" on Tuesday. Israel's war on the enclave has killed at least 58,479 Palestinians and injured 139,355 since October 7, 2023, Gaza's Health Ministry said. Unicef has warned of a 'man-made drought' as so much of the territory's drinking water system was dysfunctional.

Sharjah teen meets 1,000kg recycling goal with community's help
A year after pledging to recycle 1,000 kilograms of waste, 18-year-old Sharjah student Simran Banga has fulfilled her goal, and then some. Simran, a former student at Delhi Private School, Sharjah, began her recycling journey in late 2021 with a simple household initiative. At the time, she was collecting plastic, paper, and batteries from her home and nearby residences. Her efforts gained momentum in 2023 after she was featured in Khaleej Times for collecting 45 kilograms of waste. She had then set a modest target of reaching 100 kilograms. 'After the article was published, I started getting messages from neighbours who wanted to contribute recyclables. That's when I realised the power of awareness and how far one small effort can go,' said Simran. She ended up collecting over 1,000 kilograms of waste, according to a certificate issued last month by Ecyclex International Recycling, a waste management company that specialises in electronics, plastics, and paper waste recycling services. The waste included plastic, cardboard, paper, metals, electronics, clothing and cigarette butts. According to Ecyclex, her recycling effort helped reduce 767.2 kilograms of CO2 emissions, saved 1,181.6 kilograms of oil, 307.8 cubic feet of landfill space, over 16,000 litres of water, and 4,625 kWh of electricity. Simran credits much of the initiative's growth to community support and the involvement of her school. She ran a Recycling Week campaign, encouraging students to bring recyclables from home, and addressed middle and high school students on the importance of waste segregation. She also led activities for younger children to explain sustainability in age-appropriate ways. "The collaboration with Ecyclex ensured that all the collected material was processed responsibly," said Simran who has launched a separate project focused on collecting discarded cigarette butts from public spaces, particularly beaches. She said her parents, Prity Rani and Sandeep Banga, have supported the effort by helping with collection drives. 'I've realised you don't need massive resources or a big platform to start,' Simran said. "What matters is the willingness to act. The damage is real, but so is our ability to fix things." With one milestone now behind her, Simran hopes her story will encourage other young people to take action.
