The AAI 'Air Traffic Data' for the first three quarters of this financial year shows nearly two crore flyers went abroad this year, marking a 7% rise in international travel.
The overall passenger growth stands at 5.6% with 105.15 million flyers taking to the skies in April-June 2025 over the 99.54 million of April-June 2024. The domestic growth figure is 5.3% with 85.32 million travelling this quarter as compared to 81 million in the corresponding period last year.

1 2 Lucknow: Taking on the BJP-led govt at the Centre for its call to promote 'Swadeshi' products, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday described it as mere 'jumla' (rhetoric) and accused the BJP of touring the world to request countries to enter into trade agreements. "BJP ka swadeshi bhi ek jumla hai (BJP's call for Swadeshi is only rhetoric)," Akhilesh said, adding that in India the BJP is calling upon people to use Indian products while BJP delegations are touring the world urging for trade agreements. Similarly, his charge of Indians being chained is being seen in the light of recent deportations by the US where Indians were sent back handcuffed and chained to each other. The SP chief made the comments a day after the PM, during his address in Varanasi on Saturday, called upon the people to use products manufactured in India. A video that shows the front desk of a Florida hotel being manned by a virtual receptionist has sparked outrage in the United States. The video has raised concerns about American jobs being outsourced to other countries at a time when the anti-immigrant sentiment is at an all-time high. It shows Langs checking into his room with the help of a man who sits not at the front desk but appears on a screen during the check-in process. 'Do you need one room key or two room keys?' the virtual front desk employee asks Langs, who replies, 'Two, just in case I lose one.' The receptionist, speaking over a video call through the screen, issues further check-in instructions and generates the registration form. 'Miami virtual check in at hotels!' Langs wrote while sharing the video on TikTok and Instagram. The video was reposted on X, where it sparked outcry against Indians for 'stealing' American jobs. Although there is nothing in the video to indicate that the front desk employee is Indian or not living in the US, viewers surmised from his appearance and accent that he belongs to the subcontinent. 'Hire Americans' 'Miami hotel has outsourced their front desk to India. Guests are checked in virtually on video call with an Indian representative,' read the caption on X. 'More American jobs outsourced overseas. At some point this should just become illegal. If you make money in America, you should hire Americans'. The comments section of the video was therefore quickly flooded with outrage as Americans blamed Indians for taking jobs. Many people also slammed the hotel for outsourcing the front desk role to someone sitting outside the US. 'So American jobs are being taken by Indian people overseas AND AI at the same time. Two slaps in the face,' a user said. 'The irony is people will hate the Indians who are just doing a job while completely ignoring the American bosses and shareholders who actually made the decision to outsource these jobs in the first place,' another pointed out. 'It's up to people to actually walk out. The problem is these hotels are cheaper than everyone else because they're hiring outside the country,' a third added.

They clicked on payment links shared by overseas builders, and sometimes swiped the cards on visits to the UAE to make down payments and later pay off the balance in tranches. It was quick and convenient-no dealing with the bank branch or filling up forms. Besides, they thought they would escape the high 20% tax-collected-at-source (TCS) in case banks manage to put in place a system to collect it. But bankers and practitioners consider this a violation based on Reserve Bank of India ( RBI ) notifications. Now, to get the income tax (I-T) office and the enforcement off their back, the property buyers are trying to fix the error. How? By entering into another arrangement with the builders: these investors are preparing to remit fresh funds to builders under the RBI's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) while cancelling the earlier credit card transaction on the grounds that it was a mistake. Once done, they would receive a refund from the builder. Otherwise, they would have to sell the property and bring back the money. Live Events "Indian residents who have unintentionally paid money through credit card for purchase of property outside India need to approach RBI to regularise their mode of payment. RBI should take a lenient view as the money paid through credit card is a legitimate payment and only the mode of payment was wrong. The regulator should compound the contravention if applied for and need not ask to unwind the transaction or sell the property," said Rajesh Shah, partner at the CA firm Jayantilal Thakkar & Co. Compounding involves a person paying a fine after accepting the violation. Some of the buyers are reluctant to approach the regulator, preferring to lie low after cancelling the earlier credit card transaction. CARD USE-WHERE & WHAT The LRS allows a resident individual to transfer $250,000 a year to buy assets abroad as well as shop online from India. Under the rules, when a person uses ICC from India to buy stuff online from foreign sellers, the spend is part of the LRS limit. Such current account expenses while travelling abroad are excluded from LRS. (Perhaps, those who wiped their cards for an apartment during a trip to the Emirates mistakenly believed the expense would not consume their LRS limit). However, paying with the ICC for overseas property purchase is not considered within the regulations, irrespective of whether the card is used in India or abroad. It is understood that payments for such acquisitions must be through banking channels.
