Getting smart with your annual leave booking could help you get more days off in a row

Travel experts at AttractionTickets.com have worked out what you need to do to get a huge 59 days off work in 2026 - using just 27 days of annual leave.
Most employees who work a five-day week are entitled to at least 28 days' paid annual leave per year.
If you receive less it might be because your employer includes bank holidays in your 28-day entitlement.
The key to getting longer breaks is to use the bank holidays carefully.

You can land yourself a nine-day break by using the Early May Bank Holiday.
You'll need to book off:

That means you'll only need to use four days of annual leave to be off from Saturday, May 2 until Sunday, May 10.
Spring Bank Holiday
You can use the same tactic for the second bank holiday in May - meaning you'll get 18 days off in one month.

Again you'll just need four days off and it will take you from Saturday, May 23 to Sunday, May 31.

The Amada Colossos in Rhodes is one of the most popular hotels on the island and as the name suggests, it's a massive complex but incredibly still feels intimate and welcoming. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 The Amada Colossos in Rhodes is one of the most popular hotels Credit: Supplied 5 The Amada has just under 700 rooms Credit: Supplied 5 The bedroom had tonnes of space, with all the mod cons and a sensational orthopaedic mattress Credit: Supplied I was a tad weary after a day's travelling, but I immediately perked up when I sampled the luxurious hospitality there as I sipped fizz and had a nibble in the fancy Executive Lounge. The Amada has just under 700 rooms, across 17 different types, so depending on your budget and preference there's definitely a room for you. My Sea View Executive Suite was simply out of this world. It had a walk-in wardrobe like something you see on a celebs pad on TV — I hadn't packed anywhere near enough holiday clobber to do it justice. The main living area was spot on with a big comfy sofa, ideal to kick back on, and a giant flat screen TV to catch up on world events, watch a movie or just tune into the resort's info. It also had a packed mini bar of alcoholic and soft drinks, which was constantly topped up by the fantastic staff. The balcony overlooked the stunning beach and was the perfect place to relax first thing in the morning with a cuppa, or last thing at night with a nightcap from the minibar. And the sprawling bedroom? What can I say . . . it had tonnes of space, with all the mod cons and a sensational orthopaedic mattress which was a struggle to rise from in the morning. And the bathroom had a brilliant and welcoming power shower to wash away the day's exertions. I love a pampering, and often treat myself to a massage back home, so you can imagine my delight on discovering the Amada Colossos' incredible spa. I chilled in the steam room and sauna before I was treated to an hour-long full body massage that was one of the best I've ever had. I'm sure I didn't look it, but I certainly felt like a Greek God! However, if you fancy something a bit more active then the hotel's water park is ideal for the young — and the young at heart. The Peloponnese penninsula - an underrated Greek holiday destination Now we all know Greece is renowned for its food and the offerings at the hotel doesn't disappoint. the only problem I encountered was choosing where to eat. After all, with a choice of over a dozen restaurants and bars and only a few days to sample them, I had to choose wisely. The main buffet seemed popular with all the guests so I headed there and enjoyed both delicious local and international dishes. If you can't find something here you like then I don't know how to help you! Then there's the tempting Italian eaterie, serving up a la carte options including the simply wonderful Carpaccio di Vitello Tonnato and Caponata di Melanzana — that's veal with tuna sauce and a Sicilian dish of fried aubergine with tomatoes and capers. Prepare to be transported to the Italian countryside. The tantalising fine-dining Asian restaurant's incredible degustation menu took us on a journey across the Far East. It's fabulous for non-meat eaters and vegans too with an array of choices. But one dining highlight among many was being treated to an al fresco dinner near the beach one night, sampling the divine tasting menu of fish and meat dishes as the sun set. It was just incredible. I always think you can't beat eating and living how a local would, and we certainly did that at Votsala, their Greek Taverna by the Sea. It was sensational. The crumbed feta and the freshest of salads got the taste buds going, accompanied with an abundance of bread and olive oil. The selection of locally produced dishes like giant beans in oil and veg, octopus, cheese balls, and the beef kofte were the business. It was one of the best lunches I've had on all my travels and I didn't want it to end. After stuffing my face, I just wanted to relax and at the Amada Colossos there's that in abundance. 5 Gerry found out what ancient monuments Lindos had to offer 5 The Amada Colossas resort beach Credit: Supplied The giant pool area and the adjoining beach are the perfect places to unwind and soak up the rays with the fantastic backdrop of the inviting Aegean Sea. Normally I can barely stretch myself awake when I get up in the morning, so I was a little bit worried after I signed up for my first outdoor yoga class - but I loved it! Before I knew it, I was getting my creaking bones into all sorts of positions under the guidance of our talented instructor. It was a super relaxing start to the day, just as the morning rays started to beat down on me and set me up nicely for a packed day of visiting some of Rhodes' most incredible sights. First we headed to Lindos, one of the most popular villages and no wonder. It's simply stunning and oozes traditional charm. A short journey from the centre of Rhodes, its hilltop site, with panoramic views shows off the island's beauty. The white buildings stand out from miles away, glistening majestically in the Greek sunshine. There are several restaurants and boutique shops accessed by tiny winding paths all the way through the village. But the absolute highlight here has to be the Lindos Acropolis. Sure, it might not be as familiar as its namesake in Athens, but it's just as breathtaking. The incredible temple towers over the area and is quite literally steeped in thousands of years of history. The hotel also offers half-board and ultra all-inclusive. See Our tour guide was excellent and gave us all the information we needed to learn about the past. It's a decent hike of around 300 steps, but it is definitely worth the effort. It's not every day you get to enjoy see an incredible piece of history that dates back to the 10th century BC. Below the stunning hillside architecture is St Paul's Bay, blessed with crystal clear waters and a lovely beach and that's just where we made a beeline for a dip and a walk on the fine golden sands. After a packed morning of sight-seeing, it was time to refuel and soak up some more Grecian sunshine while at lunch at The Kapari — a Fish & Sea restaurant, flanking the beach in the town of Kolympia. I felt like like I was in my own little slice of paradise as I listened to the mesmerising sound of the waves wash up on the shore, while enjoying a crisp cold glass of local white wine. We had an endless supply of delicious dishes including calamari, risotto and salads. What a way to celebrate a fabulous day venturing and exploring just a tiny bit of the less familiar ancient monuments Rhodes has to offer. Whether you want an action packed or chilled break, Rhodes is an amazing island with so much to discover. And the Amada Colossus will ensure you have a monumental time.

Locals living near the Hough Ends Fields in Chorlton, Manchester, have complained of unbearable smells following the encampment. "Cleaning will be commencing as soon as possible." The authority also taped off a vast area of woodland with the same "do not enter" signs in place. Around 30 caravans had pitched up from June 12 for eight days with residents and dog walkers horrified at the level of filth and muck spread around. The pitches invaded by the Travellers are used by rugby union team Broughton Park FC. One 80-year-old walking her dog Sky told The Sun: "It was disgusting. Dirty toilet paper just blowing about, nappies and sanitary towels. "One pick-up truck just raced onto the field and missed my dog Sky by just inches – they have no respect and don't seem to care. "They left a pile of cuttings from trees and garden waste down the other end and that needed clearing away. "The smell was absolutely horrendous." International business student Conor Gregory, 22, who lives nearby, hails originally from Appleby in Cumbria - which hosts the annual Horse Fair every June. Shops close down and streets patrolled by cops as thousands of travellers gear up for 2nd day of Appleby Horse Fair Conor added: "It has got a lot worse more recently." Shopworker Kyra Crump, 18, said: "The litter and mess and other filth is just appalling. They obviously have no common decency – otherwise they would clear it all up themselves. "If you go out you have to watch where you are walking as there is so much waste on the floor. "People were posting images of just how disgusting it was. "They don't care about the local community at all. "My flat mate sent me a video of the antics and we had vans and police cars ever day. "We probably had 30 or so caravans and they were just driving through an entrance they had made for themselves on the main road." A 59-year-old handyman, from Altrincham, who works in the area, but declined to be named, told The Sun: "I've worked around here for 25 years and they have been turning up more in recent years. "Some of the people I work for are very appalled that it's happening so much – they fear it will have an impact on property prices and want the council to keep them out." The city council has confirmed it has blocked access to sections of Hough End Playing Fields, for the clean up and a vast skip stands on the path with all the tapes and warning signs now removed along with the waste. A council spokesperson said the waste was found after a "traveller encampment" was "evicted" from the Fields last Friday (June 20). A statement read: "An encampment of travellers was evicted from Hough End Playing Fields on Friday, June 20. 'The site was assessed and re-secured and an initial clean-up operation to remove a huge quantity of waste was undertaken. "The removal of the remaining waste by our contractor Biffa has started today to ensure that this part of Hough End is re-opened and accessible for residents once again.' The statement from the authority added it will investigate security for the park. The spokesperson continued: 'We continuously review our site security and we will work with the rugby club to see how we can both better secure this site for the future." The council spent millions on a controversial expansion of the Fields' leisure centre that opened in 2022, with campaigners arguing building car parks and artificial sports pitches on the grass was bad for the environment. Strasbourg is the capital city of the Grand Est region and sits on the French-German border. Despite the UK getting hot this week, the city is known for its bustling Christmas market. Strasbourg is known as the "Capital of Christmas" with the market, also known as Christkindelsmärik, is scheduled to run from November 27 to December 27. Flight tickets have been released already with tickets on sale in November from £48.99 (one-way). From November 28, the new service will operate twice weekly on Fridays and Sundays. This is part of easyJet's expansion of 22 new routes from UK airports for the winter season. For anyone keen to jet off before then, easyJet already offers flights from the UK to Strasbourg flying from London Heathrow from £38.99 - and it's one hour and 35 minutes away. And the city is equally just as beautiful to explore during the summertime with average highs of 26C. The area of Strasbourg that attracts most of the tourists is Petite France where you'll find the charming houses, cobbled streets and canals. One visitor said: "It's breathtaking, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. Another added that it's a place that makes you "feel like you're in a fairytale." Not that you can taste it, but Strasbourg is home to what's believed to be the world's oldest barrel of wine. It's housed in the Historic Wine Cellar of Strasbourg Hospital, a 14th-century cellar beneath the modern city hospital. The wine has been tasted only three times in its history, in the years 1576, 1718, and 1944. It's not drinkable any longer though as it dates back to 1472. While that barrel remains untouched, the cellar still produces wine, around 140,000 bottles each year. Not to mention there's lots of wine bars and pubs throughout the city, it's known for its white wines, particularly Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Popular spots for wine include L'Alsace à Boire which sells local wines along with charcuterie boards. Or Le Purgatoire which has been praised for its extensive wine list.
