Nick Saban shares humorous response to coaching return rumor
For the first time since the rumor was shared during SEC media days, former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has publicly commented on his potential interest in returning to coaching. In a recent television appearance on Fox News' Fox and Friends, Saban was asked in an interview the question as to if he would ever return to the sidelines again. Saban, in response, appeared to shut down speculation on a potential return, while also giving a humorous answer. "I never really ever had a thought about getting back into coaching, until two days ago Mrs. Terry said I had to run the sweeper in the entire downstairs," Saban said. "While running the sweeper, the thought occurred to me," When you were coaching, you had a heck of a lot better job than this. That is only time I considered it." "There is no opportunity that I know of right now, that would enhance me to go back to coaching." Saban also later added. Saban, who announced his retirement back in Jan. 2024, was the head coach at Alabama for 17 seasons from 2007-23, winning six national championships during that span. As the head coach at Alabama, Saban also compiled a 206-29 overall record, recorded 16 10-win seasons, and won nine SEC championships. Since announcing his retirement, Saban has remained around college football, most notably through his role on ESPN's weekly show "College GameDay." As to if Saban would ever return, the answer certainly appears unlikely in the near future. Mick Maynard's Shoes: What's next for Reinier de Ridder after UFC on ABC 9 win?
Reinier de Ridder is in a strong position in the middleweight division after beating a former UFC champion for the first time in Robert Whittaker on Saturday at UFC on ABC 9. De Ridder (20-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) got the split decision nod over Whittaker (26-9 MMA, 17-7 UFC) at Etihad Arena on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, to continue his whirlwind run since joining the organization in September. The former two-division ONE Championship titleholder has met every challenge matchmakers have put in front of him, and with the 185-pound title on the line between Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC 319 headliner on Aug. 16 in Chicago, he's among the frontrunners to face the winner. Should de Ridder get a title shot off the back of beating Whittaker in a decision that some felt was unjust? Watch the video above for thoughts and analysis on his future after UFC on ABC 9.

Nick Saban return to coaching rumor: Daughter refutes speculation with social media post
Will Nick Saban return to coaching, or stay retired? According to his daughter, Kristen Saban, the Alabama football legend is staying retired. Ms. Saban wrote in a social media post/story to Instagram on Thursday: "He's not coming back to coaching, hate to break it to you [laughing emotion] you had your time." Rumors about a return to coaching began when former Crimson Tide quarterback and current ESPN/ABC analyst Greg McElroy said Monday that "a very much in-the-know person" seemed to believe the seven-time national champion wasn't finished coaching. McElroy's comment and subsequent reaction spread across social media, various national sports media outlets, and was a topic at SEC media days in Atlanta. Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, Georgia's Kirby Smart, Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin and LSU's Brian Kelly all commented on the rumor of Saban possibly returning. DeBoer said Wednesday: "He's one of the greatest to ever do it, so he's earned the right to do what he wants. I think the best part of what coach Saban is doing right now is, he's still involved in the game. He brings passion to it." Saban is set to enter his second year as an analyst for ESPN's College GameDay. While Nick Saban himself hasn't addressed the rumor, someone who seems far more likely "in the know" than McElroy or his source has now done so.
