Democratic leadership election results are as follows:
State Representative John Waldron of Tulsa was elected to Chair the party for the next two years
Small business owner and former candidate for State Senate, Erin Brewer of Oklahoma City as Vice Chair
Engineer and community organizer, Alberto Alonso-Sandoval of Oklahoma City as Treasurer
Chickasaw citizen and genealogist, Kati Cain of Lone Grove as Secretary
'There is renewed energy within the Oklahoma Democratic Party. We are united in our resolve to see more good-paying jobs created, keep rural hospitals open, fully fund our public schools, hold government accountable to the people, and ensure every Oklahoman can pursue the American dream,' Rep. Waldron said.

The Oklahoma Democratic Party Platform of 2025 highlights include:
Supporting secure, efficient and accessible voting
Protecting the initiative petition process
Investing properly in infrastructure, education, transportation, mental health, Medicaid, and public safety
Opposing income tax reductions without equitable and stable replacement funding sources
Opposing public dollars for private school vouchers, tax credits, and religious charter schools
Growing our economy through innovation and diverse industries
Leading in renewable energy sources as well as oil & gas production
Raising the minimum wage
Recognizing the sovereignty of our 39 Tribal Nations
Allowing patients and doctors the autonomy to make individual medical decisions

'We created a platform that succinctly positions the Oklahoma Democratic Party on the issues confronting our state,' explained Waldron. 'This is what we're fighting for right here in Oklahoma.'

Democratic lawmakers denied entry to Alligator Alcatraz immigration detention site
A group of Florida Democratic state lawmakers was blocked from entering the Alligator Alcatraz immigrant detention facility in the Everglades Thursday, despite citing legal authority for an official legislative site visit. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried issued a statement following the incident, saying, "Lawmakers on the ground were just blocked from entering a state-funded detention site because of so-called 'safety concerns.' This is a taxpayer-funded facility, run by the State of Florida. Our elected officials have every legal right to walk through those gates." Fried added, "What are Ron DeSantis and his administration trying to hide? If it's unsafe for lawmakers to visit, how is it safe for anyone inside?" Democrats raise concerns over conditions Ahead of the attempted site visit, the Democratic lawmakers said in a joint statement, "As lawmakers, we have both the legal right and moral responsibility to inspect this site, demand answers, and expose this abuse before it becomes the national blueprint." They also voiced concerns about conditions for detainees. First group of detainees arrives The first group of detainees arrived at the facility, according to a spokesperson for Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. "Detainees began arriving last night. Under President Trump's leadership, we are working at turbo speed on cost-effective and innovative ways to deliver on the American people's mandate for mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens," said Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "We will expand facilities and bed space in just days, thanks to our partnership with Florida." The facility, located at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, is expected to house up to thousands when fully operational. Built in just eight days across 10 miles of Everglades terrain, the center includes more than 200 security cameras, over 28,000 feet of barbed wire and 400 security personnel, according to state officials.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — President Donald Trump said Thursday that he's thinking of staging a UFC match on the White House grounds with upwards 20,000 spectators to celebrate 250 years of American independence. 'We have a lot of land there,' said Trump, a UFC enthusiast who has attended several of its mixed martial arts matches in recent months and is close friends with Dana White, the league's president. Trump announced his plan in Iowa during the kickoff for a year's worth of festivities to celebrate America's 250th birthday on July 4, 2026. The Republican president also announced a culminating festival on the National Mall in Washington, and a separate athletic competition featuring high school athletes from across the country. 'So every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America 250. And I even think we're going to have a UFC fight," Trump said. ″Think of this on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there," he said, adding that it would be a 'full fight' with 20,000 to 25,000 people. Trump has recently enjoyed standing ovations and cage-side seats for several UFC fights, including an appearance immediately after his 2024 reelection and another just last month alongside White for two championship fights.
