A German bestselling novelist was found dead on a houseboat in Hamburg on Tuesday morning. Alexandra Frohlich's body was found by her son on the Elbe River, according to The Guardian.
The 'Death is a Certainty' author was shot, authorities confirmed. The case has been handed over to the murder investigation team after it was confirmed that Ms Frohlich died after she had been violently attacked.
She died between midnight and 5:30 am, the report said.
Authorities told The Guardian, "According to current information, relatives found the 58-year-old woman lifeless on her houseboat and alerted the fire brigade, who were only able to confirm the woman's death."
Investigators are looking for possible witnesses who might have seen strange activity on or near the long cerise houseboat where Ms Frohlich lived. Her houseboat was located in the eastern Moorfleet area on the Holzhafen bank of the Elbe River.
A police spokesperson also said the investigators were looking for possible suspects and whether Ms Frohlich knew the killer. No further details related to the incident were shared since the investigation was still underway.
According to the report from The Guardian, the divers were immediately sent to the crime scene, as there were speculations that the weapon used in the crime might have been thrown into the Elbe River.
Ms Frohlich began her career as a journalist in Ukraine's Kyiv, where she founded a women's magazine. Before taking up writing novels, she worked as a freelance journalist in Germany and wrote for women's magazines and others, like Stern.
She published her debut novel, My Russian Mother-in-Law and Other Disasters, in 2012, which sold over 50,000 copies. In 2014, she published a follow-up novel, Travelling with Russians, and then a crime novel, People Always Die, in 2016. Her last novel was in 2019, named Dirty Hands.

Dancing on road, blocking traffic: After Ed Sheeran, 2 German influencers jam Church Street; cops disperse crowd over safety fears

BENGALURU: It was Ed Sheeran's brush with the cops on Church Street in Feb this year that hit the headlines in the city and beyond, with the men in uniform quite literally pulling the plug on the English singer-songwriter's impromptu gig for not having obtained prior permission for his 'show'. Over the past five days, in a redux of that Feb incident, two German social media influencers had to be removed from the same stretch of the city by the police after they arrived there to record videos, triggering chaos and holding up traffic. In the first instance, TikToker Noel Robinson was fined Rs 200 for causing public nuisance. He was seen dancing on Church Street with a crowd around him, holding up traffic on Saturday. He was taken to Cubbon Park police station, where he paid the fine. Cops dispersed crowd , citing safety issues Younes Zarou, too, had to be whisked away by cops after a large crowd turned up. However, no police case was registered against him. This was Zarou's second visit to Church Street. Last Sept, he had announced distribution of electronic gadgets to the public at the same place. In a social media post Wednesday, Zarou had announced: "Church Street, we are coming." This drew thousands of fans to the busy stretch, before police dispersed them, citing concerns over public safety. Akshay M Hakay, deputy commissioner of police (central division), said they found it difficult to extricate Zarou safely out of the crowd. "Around 4pm, we received a call at the police control room, saying a large crowd had gathered on Church Street, blocking traffic and causing a nuisance. Immediately, police officials in a Hoysala vehicle were rushed to the spot. By then, around 2,000 people had gathered there. We brought Zarou safely out of the crowd and allowed him to leave. No case was registered," Hakay told TOI. Similarly, last Saturday, the public had called the police control room, saying a man was causing public nuisance by dancing on the road and blocking vehicles. "A patrolling Hoysala vehicle reached the spot and told Noel and the others to stop dancing and clear the road. After Hoysala staffers' repeated requests to vacate the road turned futile, Noel was detained and taken to Cubbon Park police station," a senior police officer said.

CoinDCX crypto heist: Bengaluru engineer held in Rs 379 crore case, police uncover suspicious freelance work

A Bengaluru-based software engineer has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a massive Rs 379-crore cryptocurrency heist targeting CoinDCX, a popular Indian crypto exchange. Police say the breakthrough came after a formal complaint was filed by Neblio Technologies, the parent company of CoinDCX. Rahul Agarwal, 30, a resident of Carmelaram in Bengaluru and originally from Haridwar, Uttarakhand, was taken into custody by the Whitefield CEN Crime Police on July 26. He was arrested after investigators found that confidential login credentials linked to his office laptop had been used during the security breach. How the heist began: One USDT, then Rs 379 crore According to a report, the case began unfolding when CoinDCX's vice-president for public policy, Hardeep Singh, approached police with concerns about unusual platform activity. At 2:37 am on July 19, an unidentified person accessed the CoinDCX system and moved a single USDT (a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar) to an external wallet. Hours later, the breach intensified. By the time the activity was flagged, a total of around $44 million (roughly Rs 379 crore) had been transferred to six separate crypto wallets. This large-scale siphoning prompted an internal investigation by the company. Police and internal probes point to Agarwal's laptop The company's internal investigation revealed that only one device appeared to be compromised — Rahul Agarwal's official laptop. Based on this finding, police seized the device and began questioning Agarwal. While denying direct involvement in the theft, Agarwal did admit to 'moonlighting' — working freelance projects for multiple clients outside of his official job. He claimed that while he received tasks from three to four private clients, he was unaware of their identities or the nature of their access. Freelance work, WhatsApp call from Germany, and a bank deposit Further scrutiny of Agarwal's activities revealed a Rs 15 lakh deposit in his bank account, the source of which remains unclear. When questioned, Agarwal reportedly told investigators that he had received a WhatsApp call from a German number. The caller allegedly instructed him to complete certain files that were sent to him, though he did not clarify how the files were used or who had sent them. The police have not ruled out the possibility that the breach could have been carried out remotely using Agarwal's credentials, either through malware or misuse by external actors during his freelance assignments. Ongoing investigation and unanswered questions While Agarwal remains in custody, police are continuing to investigate the origin of the German connection, the Rs 15 lakh bank deposit, and whether the theft involved any additional individuals or international links. Authorities are also examining how the hacker was able to escalate access from a single USDT transaction to a full-scale multi-crore theft, and whether internal lapses in cybersecurity protocols at CoinDCX contributed to the breach. As of now, the Rs 379-crore stolen amount remains untraced, and the identities behind the six crypto wallets used in the heist are under investigation.

Both incidents sparked mixed reactions among users, with some praising the creators' love for India and others calling for more caution and responsibility. Some also criticised the way he was treated. One user wrote, "The arrest is not the problem; everyone is subject to the law. The issue is how they handle him. How can they push someone this hard?" Another commented, "As an Indian, I feel deeply sorry for the way you were treated. You came here as a guest, and no guest deserves to be thrown into a vehicle or handled with aggression over such a minor issue. Sadly, it's not just some citizens — even many in our police force lack basic civil sense and empathy." Some also defended the police. "Not a big mistake by the police. It's common in every country. Those uneducated Indians in the comments go abroad and dance in public. At least in 15 minutes, he is out of the station without a case," a third said. Noel Robinson is a German TikTok star, content creator, and dancer with a massive global following. Born in 2001, he has Nigerian roots and was raised by his German mother, Andrea, a pediatric nurse. He gained fame through his energetic dance videos, often featuring his signature move of revealing his afro hairstyle from under a hood, which he combines with freestyle and hip-hop choreography.
