Petronas, Italy's Eni ink JV framework to explore regional upstream collaboration

The Sun17-06-2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has entered into a joint venture framework agreement (JVFA) with Italian energy company Eni to further discussions and evaluations aimed at creating a regional upstream joint venture (JV) company.
The agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding inked in December 2024.
In a statement today, Petronas said that the JVFA reflects both companies' shared commitment to combine selected upstream interests in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The national oil and gas company also said that the agreement is expected to deliver up to 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of sustainable production, with approximately three billion barrels of developed reserves and an estimated 10 billion barrels of exploration potential.
'Definitive agreements are targeted for completion by end-2025, subject to regulatory, governmental, and partner approvals,' it said.
In another statement, Petronas CCS Ventures Sdn Bhd (PCCSV), MISC Bhd (MISC), and Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd (MOL) have announced the incorporation of a strategic JV company, Jules Nautica Sdn Bhd.
PCCSV is a wholly owned subsidiary of Petronas.
This JV will lead the development and act as the ultimate owner of liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2) carriers, which are critical for transporting LCO2 to designated storage sites as part of advancing carbon capture and storage (CCS) solutions.
Petronas said that the JV aims to become a leading owner of LCO2 carriers, facilitating the safe and efficient transportation of LCO2 to designated carbon dioxide (CO2) storage sites.
'Focused on supporting future CCS projects across the Asia Pacific region, the JV will also play a key role in completing the CCS value chain.
'Through strategic commercial agreements with CO2-emitting industries and storage companies, this partnership will provide a critical cross-border solution to meet growing environmental and regulatory needs,' said Petronas.

The contribution was made under the Petronas Powering Knowledge: MLNG Bestari Outreach programme and facilitated the refurbishment of the school's computer lab, Form 5 classroom block and the construction of a new male dormitory. According to Petronas LNG Assets senior vice president Abang Yusuf Abang Puteh, the initiative was not just a Corporate Social Responsibility effort, but a show of their unwavering commitment to rural community development and empowerment. 'We see this effort as a holistic approach that underscores the importance of access to quality education. Education is not only a fundamental right, it is a catalyst for societal progress and transformation,' he said during a handing over ceremony today. The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi. Abang Yusuf said with such support, schools that faced any sort of constraints could now enjoy better facilities and learning resources. 'This initiative acts as a bridge connecting educational institutions, government agencies, the private sector and local communities to build a more sustainable and inclusive learning ecosystem. 'The impact goes beyond academic achievement and contributes to the overall well-being of the community,' he said. The MLNG Bestari Outreach programme has also been extended to other areas including Ulu Roban, Tatau, Sebauh, Betong and Dalat mainly through the provision of learning equipment. Abang Yusuf said that additionally, under the MLNG Borneo Bestari Programme, MLNG was collaborating with Yayasan Sarawak to sponsor 80 Sarawakian students from Form 1 to Form 5 annually to attend residential schools in Peninsula and Sarawak from 2024-2029. 'Our hope is that these sponsored students will excel in their SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) exams and become eligible for the Petronas Education Sponsorship Programme, which allows them to further their studies locally and abroad, and ultimately prepare them for employment at Petronas. 'This is our long-term goal — we want to not only support sustainable education but also meet future workforce needs in the oil and gas industry. 'In this regard, I hope that students from Sebuyau will also be among those selected to join the MLNG Borneo Bestari programme as we are confident that children from Sarawak, especially those from rural areas, can keep pace with their peers from major urban centres,' he said. Blackouts due to gas supply hitch

Published on: Saturday, July 26, 2025 Published on: Sat, Jul 26, 2025 Text Size: According to SE Chief Operating Officer Ir. Ts. Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, the shutdown occurred at 2.11pm, affecting gas delivery to power plants in the Kota Kinabalu area. Kota Kinabalu: An emergency shutdown at a Petronas-owned gas terminal on Wednesday disrupted gas supply to several power stations, prompting Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SE) to implement rolling blackouts across parts of the State. According to SE Chief Operating Officer Ir. Ts. Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, the shutdown occurred at 2.11pm, affecting gas delivery to power plants in the Kota Kinabalu area. The affected stations were forced to switch from gas to diesel fuel, resulting in a 60-megawatt drop in generation capacity for the Sabah and Labuan electricity grid. The first round of load shedding, from 2.38pm to 4.53pm, affected users in Pitas, Papar, Keningau, Kunak, Balung and Tawau. A second blackout followed at 6.38pm, impacting Kudat, Kota Marudu, Tuaran, Lok Kawi, Kimanis, Beaufort, Tenom, Nabawan, Beluran, Sandakan, Semporna, Sebatik and parts of Pitas and Tawau. Full power supply was restored by 9.36pm. SESB extended its apologies to consumers for the inconvenience and for delays in communication regarding the outages. The utility also appealed for public understanding, citing ongoing operational challenges in maintaining a stable power supply. Consumers in need of assistance or updates are advised to contact SESB via the Sabah Electricity Careline at 15444 or 088-515000, WhatsApp at 019-852 5427, or through the Sabah Electricity mobile application. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
