Israel-Iran war: AVIC Chengdu share price edges higher despite Hormuz Straight close buzz

Israel-Iran war: Despite weak global market sentiments post-US attacks in Iran, J-10 fighter jet maker company AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Limited remained under the bull's radar. AVIC Chengdu share price edges higher during Monday deals despite fear of Hormuz Straight closure. AVIC Chengdu's share price today opened upside at 84 yuan per share and touched an intraday high of 85.04 yuan per share. However, AVIC Chengdu shares witnessed some profit booking and came down to 84.20 yuan per share levels.
According to stock market experts, AVIC Chengdu's share price witnessed some selling pressure after the outbreak of the Israel-Iran war last week and came close to 80 yuan per share. However, AVIC Chengdu's share price sustained above its strong support base, standing at 79 yuan per share. So, bulls are betting high on the stock after the stock showed some resilience at the lower support despite high tension in the Middle East. They said that AVIC Chengdu's share price may go up to 105 yuan per share levels once the stock closes above 86 yuan per share.
Speaking on the technical outlook of AVIC Chengdu share price, Anshul Jain, Head of Research at Lakshmishree Investment, said, "AVIC Chengdu share price broke out of an 18-day cup and handle pattern that is part of a larger flag formation, triggering a bullish signal at 86 yuan per share. The stock must hold above the key support zone at 79 for the breakout to sustain. A swift move toward 105 yuan per share is highly likely if this level holds. The broader structure indicates consolidation within strength, and any volume expansion will further support the bullish continuation."
The Pentagon on Sunday announced that the US launched Operation Midnight Hammer and conducted "precision strikes" at three of Iran's key nuclear facilities, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Iran's Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, has slammed Israel and the US, stating that both countries have gravely violated the UN Charter, international law, and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) by attacking Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities. He said that the governments of the US and Israel are fully responsible for the "hazardous consequences of this grave crime."
After the US airstrikes in Iran, the Iranian government threatened to close the Hormuz Straight, which is fueling crude oil prices, as the closure would negatively impact the demand-supply constraint.
"The United States and Zionist regime have committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law, and the NPT by attacking Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities. The aggressive US government and the Zionist regime are held fully responsible for the hazardous consequences of this grave crime," Elahi said.
Iraj Elahi said that Iran expects the United Nations and its responsible members to condemn the US and Israel for their military actions against nuclear facilities.
Speaking on the developments in the Israel-Iran war, Morgan Stanley Chief Economic Strategist Ellen Zentner said, "With the US economy already expected to slow under pressure from the Trump administration's high import tariffs, a rise in oil prices resulting from the conflict "could provide powerful downward pressure on households' ability to spend... and that could slow GDP even more."

Rupee weakens by 46 paise to close at 85.85/$

Mumbai: The Indian currency weakened nearly half a rupee to close at 85.85 per dollar on Monday, from its previous close of 85.39/$1 as uncertainty about US tariff policies resurfaced with President Donald Trump's threat of an additional 10% levy on Brics countries. The rupee opened at 85.57/$1, and weakened till 86.03/$1 on Monday, before pairing its losses and closing at 85.85/$1, likely due to intervention by the Reserve Bank, traders said. "Markets were expecting something on the trade deal with the US, but nothing came up, and the BRICS statement deteriorated sentiments. We were the second worst performing currency in Asia, and due to potential RBI intervention, we erased some losses and to be the third worst-performing Asian currency," said Dilip Parmar, currency research analyst at HDFC Securities. Japanese Yen and the Thai baht were the two worst performing Asian currencies. Traders expect the rupee to move in the range of 85.50/$1 to 86.25/$1 on Tuesday, ahead of July 9, when Trump will unveil his new stand on tariffs. In a social media post, President Donald Trump stated a new tariff policy, calling for countries "aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies" of the BRICS developing nations to be charged an extra 10% tariff, with no exceptions to be granted. India, along with Brazil, China, Russia, South Africa are part of BRICS. The dollar index gained slightly at 97.6, from 96.9 previously. "The BRICS comment has put the India-US deal in jeopardy and we are awaiting clarifications from India-US on the matter. The rupee has fallen as the market is not expecting the deal to be done soon," said Anil Bhansali, head of treasury at Finrex Treasury Advisors.

AI infra firm RackBank gets land in Indore, Raipur for data centres

AI infrastructure startup RackBank is looking to expand data centres in tier-2 cities like Indore and Raipur to reduce its operational cost by 2–3x as compared to data centre hotspots like Mumbai, Chennai and Noida. The firm, which recently launched an AI cloud business unit called NeevCloud, has acquired six acres of land in Indore for an 18 megawatt facility and 13 acres in Raipur for a 100 megawatt facility, Narendra Sen, founder and CEO of RackBank and NeevCloud, told ET. These investments are supported by state governments of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh respectively in form of power subsidies and other benefits. To maintain competitive pricing for on-demand GPUs (graphics processing units), neocloud firms need to cut fixed costs and operational costs, especially because GPUs guzzle immense power and water. For instance, land costs in Raipur are Rs 30 lakh per acre, less than a tenth of Mumbai's rates, and operational costs are equally compelling, Sen explained.'In tier-1 cities, it costs Rs 50 crore per megawatt to build. We do it for Rs 25 crore in tier-2. State governments like Madhya Pradesh are also supporting data centre companies with single window clearances and dedicated power supply. Our delivery timeline is nine months, as compared to metro cities where it can be 24 months,' he added that RackBank's in-house immersion cooling system Varuna allows it to cut capital costs by up to company is aiming to raise Rs 700 crore debt to fund this expansion. This comes after it raised a $16.5 million (nearly Rs 138 crore) equity seed round in March 2025 from D-Street investors like Ashish Kacholia and Madhulika Agarwal.'We want to become the CoreWeave of Asia Pacific,' he said, referencing the US-based AI cloud startup that recently went public after a meteoric in 2023, NeevCloud currently operates a cluster of over 700 GPUs, including Nvidia H100, H200, MI300 and plans to add the latest Blackwell GPUs in Raipur soon. NeevCloud's model focuses on enterprise AI workloads, medical diagnostics and government partnerships. 'Hyperscalers like AWS and Azure dominate the general cloud, but they don't have enough GPU capacity in India. Startups are hungry for training and inference compute, and they're willing to switch providers,' said Sen. 'We're already seeing strong traction from AI startups and healthcare firms.' On the global front, NeevCloud is also setting up presence in Europe (Finland, Norway) and the US, partnering with local data centre operators to ensure compliance and reach.'Customers expect availability. If your site shows zero GPUs, they bounce,' said Sen. 'So we're launching regions in key markets to stay competitive.'

Sebi crackdown on Jane Street has an unexpected fallout on IITs

The interim ban on Jane Street from accessing the market for alleged manipulation has left the Indian Institutes of Technology in a bind. The nation's top engineering colleges must quickly decide whether the high-frequency trading firm will be allowed to hire from their campuses. The placement teams are 'evaluating" how acceptable is the US-headquartered firm, which usually picks up students during their internship process and then rolls out pre-placement offers. 'We are evaluating our options. The internship process for the batch of 2026 will start in a few days and companies come in during July and August," said one of the placement executives at an IIT whose alumni are working for the firm. 'Jane Street has been a regular recruiter over the last few years, but we are awaiting the regulator's [final] decision." The executive added that Jane Street has notput in its name yet, while some of its competitors have contacted the college. For IITs, this risks striking out a prominent hirer as markets face volatility amid global trade uncertainty and wars. Their concerns stem from the Securities and Exchange Board of India's 3 July interim order barring four Jane Street entities from accessing the market till they deposit the alleged illegal gains worth ₹4,843 crore into an escrow account. The quant trading firm is being investigated for alleged manipulation of the Bank Nifty index on expiry days. Sebi also froze the firm's bank and demat accounts and barred them from the securities market until further notice. 'This interim order has only looked at 18 major instances of prima facie index manipulation," a Sebi official told Mint on 3 July, speaking on the condition of anonymity. 'Investigations into other expiry days, other indices, and potential patterns will continue. The scope is large and timelines are hard to predict." In a statement to Mint, Jane Street said, 'We dispute the findings of the Sebi interim order and will continue to engage with the regulator. Jane Street remains committed to operating in compliance with all regulations in the regions where we operate." Over the last few years, Jane Street has recruited from IIT-Delhi, Bombay and Madras. HFT and quant firms hire candidates who can analyze markets using mathematical and statistical models. Despite theglobal crests and troughs, this segment managed to recruit students from IITs at salaries of about ₹1 crore and higher. IIT-Delhi, Bombay and Madras did not respond to Mint's queries sent on Monday. Some of the other HFTs that hire from IITs include Da Vinci, Optiver, Squarepoint, Tibra, Quadeye, Graviton Research Capital, JPMC Quant, and Maverick Derivatives. A few prefer to visit during the final placements. 'The high-frequency trading firms were sought after, but there are other companies in the same sector who may get a preference," said a placement executive at one of the older IITs. 'The placement teams and management will look into the matter, and if Jane Street is not allowed, then others are there." Jane Street does not recruit during the final placement season, which is typically in December for the older IITs. It picks up students during the internship period, and those selected get offers that can reach up to ₹4 crore. Of India's 23 IITs, the first-generation institutes–IIT Madras, Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Roorkee and Kanpur–start the placement season on 1 December. The second- and third-generation IITs, along with the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), begin earlier in August-September to get a headstart.
