The Bombay High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) while hearing a plea filed by Samrat Cinematics India Pvt. Ltd, the production house behind the film Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi. The bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Dr. Neela Gokhale will hear the filmmakers' plea again on July 17.The company claimed that there has been an 'arbitrary, unreasonable, and unexplained delay in processing the certification applications for the upcoming feature film' by the CBFC.advertisement
The makers stated that the film is inspired by the book The Monk Who Became Chief Minister, authored by Shantanu Gupta, which is based on the life and public leadership of a contemporary political figure, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The filmmakers claim that the CBFC has demanded a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) of Uttar Pradesh. They said this was an 'erroneous, extraneous, and baseless demand... despite there being no such requirement under the statute, i.e., the Cinematograph Act or the rules framed thereunder.'They further claimed that the demand for an NOC from the CMO's office is 'nothing but a ploy to delay the release of the motion picture.'The makers added that the book 'has been officially endorsed by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO),' and they have pointed this out to the CBFC.According to the filmmakers, they submitted various certification applications to the CBFC—for the main film, teaser, trailer, and a promotional song—within a reasonable timeframe. However, the CBFC has failed to act on these applications within the statutory timelines laid down under the Cinematograph Act and the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, the filmmakers claimed. The film is slated for a nationwide theatrical release on August 1, 2025. The makers have already incurred a pre-release expenditure of nearly Rs 30 crores, including marketing, distribution, and promotional collaborations, with a potential additional expenditure of around Rs 10 crores expected before the release.- EndsTune InMust Watch

Rahul Fazilpuria shot at in Gurgaon: Man who ‘carried out recce' sent to 5-day police custody

Days after Haryana singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria alleged he was shot at in Gurgaon, a city court on Thursday sent the only accused who has been arrested so far to five days of police custody. Identified as Vishal, the 25-year-old Sonipat resident allegedly carried out the recce for the shooting. Around 5.50 pm on Monday, when the 35-year-old singer was leaving the Fazilpur area in his car, men allegedly driving a white Tata Punch – which had initially trailed him – opened fire on him. The bullet had struck a pole, and the perpetrators fled in the same vehicle, according to officers. The Sector 40 Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Vishal, a resident of Jajal in Sonipat. 'His questioning has revealed that Vishal, along with accomplices, conducted reconnaissance of the victim's routes and locations while staying in various guest houses in Gurgaon. On the day of the incident, he tracked the singer-rapper and shared details with his associates, who then executed the shooting,' a police spokesperson had said. Police added that Vishal was involved in renting the Tata Punch car used in the crime, which has since been recovered. On Wednesday evening, a post surfaced on social media in which a person claimed responsibility for the shooting. The note said the shooting was the fallout of a financial dispute involving Rs 5 crore that the singer allegedly did not return. Earlier on Tuesday, CCTV camera footage had emerged of the Tata Punch car allegedly following the singer. In his complaint to the police, Fazilpuria said that he got into his vehicle and escaped unhurt as the assailants could not chase him due to the traffic. The singer-rapper, who has been promoting Haryanvi folk music, has several hits to his credit. In 2014, he rose to fame with his rap song 'Ladki Kar Gayi Chull', which also featured in the Bollywood movie 'Kapoor and Sons', starring Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Fawad Khan. He had also unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election in 2024 from Gurgaon as a Jannayak Janta Party candidate against Congress's Raj Babbar and BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh, who was elected. Last year, he was booked by the Gurgaon Police along with YouTuber Elvish Yadav, for allegedly using rare species of snakes and a .32 bore pistol in a music video. The duo was also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with allegations linked to money laundering and rave parties.

Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine booked for allegedly cheating producer; actor shares statement: ‘The truth will prevail'

A case has been registered against Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly and filmmaker Abrid Shine following a complaint by Mahaveeryar co-producer PS Shamnas, accusing them of financial fraud, police said on Thursday. An FIR under section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC was registered on Wednesday night against Pauly and Shine. According to PTI, PS Shamnas has accused Nivin Pauly of not paying him the promised compensation of Rs 95 lakh after the failure of their film Mahaveeryar. As per the complaint, the actor had assured this compensation along with a partnership in his upcoming film Action Hero Biju 2, which was to be directed by Abrid Shine. Shamnas alleged that based on this promise, he invested a hefty sum of Rs 1.9 crore in Nivin's new project. Shamnas also claimed that while the new film was initially registered under his own production house — Indian Movie Makers — Nivin allegedly entered into a Rs 5 crore distribution deal with a Dubai-based firm. He further accused the actor of accepting Rs 2 crore in advance from the Dubai company and cited a prior agreement that showed the film being registered under Nivin's production banner, not Shamnas'. Nivin Pauly responded to the cheating allegations via social media, stating that a court-directed arbitration is already underway in the matter. He added that despite a gag order issued by the court, a new police case was filed by the co-producer. He wrote, 'The dispute has been under court-directed arbitration since May 28, 2025, with a gag order in place to ensure confidentiality. Despite this, a new police case has been registered in violation of the court's directives, suppressing the ongoing arbitration proceedings and distorting facts. We will take appropriate legal action. The truth will prevail.'
