Aubrey Plaza was concerned about her husband, Jeff Baena, months before his death, according to a report.
Plaza and Baena had been separated since September 2024 when, a month later, Baena made "concerning remarks" to Plaza that prompted the actress to "call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband," according to a report by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner, which was obtained by People.
After the welfare check, Baena began going to therapy. According to the outlet, Baena explained that he was experiencing "recent marital difficulties" with Plaza.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed authorities responded to a call near Baena's residence on Jan. 3. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the LAPD told Fox News Digital at the time.
His cause of death was ruled a suicide.
"The family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time."
Plaza last communicated with her husband via text on the day of his death at 10:36 a.m. ET, according to People.
On Jan. 6, Baena's representative directed Fox News Digital to a statement originally shared with Deadline. "The family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time," the statement read.
Baena and Plaza were private about their relationship after meeting in 2011. It is unclear when the two wed, but Plaza confirmed the couple's marriage status in 2021 with an Instagram post.
Plaza has deactivated her Instagram page following Baena's death.
Plaza did not attend the Golden Globes days after Baena's death, although she had previously been announced as a presenter.
Baena was born and raised in Miami. He attended film school at New York University and later began his career in Los Angeles.
Baena made his directorial debut with "Life After Beth," which starred Plaza, in 2014. He was also known for films such as "The Little Hours," "Horse Girl" and "Joshy."

Kanye West posts disturbing selfie moments before wife Bianca Censori issues warning

Kanye West has shared a disturbing photo of himself on social media — moments before his wife, Bianca Censori, revealed that her Instagram account has be subject to repeated hacks. On Tuesday, the disgraced rapper, 48, took to his Instagram Story to share a photo of himself shielded behind a perforated green mask underneath a hoodie covering the top of his head. The image was accompanied by several other posts, including mysterious artworks and several snaps from his recent trip to South Korea. 5 Kanye West has shared a disturbing photo of himself on social media. Instagram / @ye Moments after the 24-time Grammy winner's startling post, his wife warned fans that her social media account had been targeted by hackers on several occasions. 'This account has been subject to recurring hacks,' the former Yeezy architect wrote on her Instagram Story. 'Anything strange is not me.' Censori had recently wiped her account clean — deleting most of her posts and only keeping recent sultry images of herself wearing almost nothing in a hotel room. The images, all believed to have been taken last year, show the 30-year-old posing in racy white lace lingerie in a Japan hotel suite during the duo's getaway in October 2024. 5 Moments after West's post, Bianca Censori warned fans that her social media account had been targeted by hackers on several occasions. 'Japan October 2024 shot by @ye,' she wrote, tagging the 'Jesus Walks' rapper. The pair's social media activity comes just days after they returned from Shanghai, China, where West — who goes by the name Ye — performed a sold-out 70,000 concert. However, the gig wasn't without drama as the rapper's fans erupted into an angry chant and demanded refunds after he was more than 40 minutes late to take to the stage. 5 West has been married to the former Yeezy architect since 2022. BlayzenPhotos / BACKGRID The performance took place just days after West's former assistant accused him of sexual assault, battery, stalking, sexual battery, sex trafficking, false imprisonment and oral rape in an amended lawsuit. In legal documents obtained by The Post, Lauren Pisciotta — who was West's personal assistant from 2021 through 2022 — claimed that most of the alleged crimes took place on a business trip to San Francisco during her tenure. Pisciotta, an influencer and former OnlyFans model, claimed she turned down alleged advances from West on numerous occasions. In her amended suit, the 36-year-old claimed that West — who has four children with ex-wife Kim Kardashian — kissed her on the mouth and later masturbated while 'forcibly touching' her during a writing session in his hotel room. 5 The duo recently returned from Shanghai, China. BACKGRID She further alleged that the 'Stronger' rapper forced himself into her hotel room, asking to use her shower, before orally raping her. She claims he pinned her down, leaving her 'froze[n] in shock and fear.' The 'Runaway' rapper's spokesperson has since fired back at Pisciotta's claims in a statement to Page Six. LeBron James Calls Bubba Watson 'Ridiculous' But Not For Reason You Think

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. LeBron James is one of the latest to join the long list of stars from other sports who are passionate about golf. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has recently been showing off his swing, receiving no shortage of favorable reviews. Everything seems to indicate that James is not only hitting the links from time to time, but is also following professional golf. Apparently, last weekend he was watching LIV Golf UK, taking into account his reaction to his friend Bubba Watson's performance. The two-time Masters champion finished second at JCB Golf and Country Club, the best result of his LIV Golf career. Enough for "King James" to dedicate a post to the event on his Instagram stories. "You're ridiculous my friend!!" James posted. Bubba Watson's two eagles after two driver off the deck both times left LeBron James impressed. "You're ridiculous my friend," James wrote. — Kit Espina (@KeithEspino22) July 28, 2025 However, it seems that what really motivated James' congratulations were the two spectacular eagles made by Watson on the par-5 10th and 13th holes of the final round. In both cases, the Range Goats GC captain hit driver off the deck on his second shot and ended up holing the putt for a three. "It's not something I practice," Watson said about driving off the deck, according to the transcript of his post-third round press conference. "You don't practice it, right? I just do it. We had 300 plus to the hole on 10, 280 something to the front I think. So wasn't even -- I was just trying to get it over there where I could chip down to the bowl, right?" "I was like, man, that might have hit the downslope, and about that time, 30, 40 seconds later everybody starts cheering and I was like, must have hit the downslope." "Then to get it in the bowl is just I guess luck I'll say it. Then driver off the deck on 13 was a different shot. Like I was trying to fit that in there, but I don't go to the range and practice them. I never practice those until we're playing practice rounds and I need that shot or if I'm playing in a tournament." Watson added six birdies and four bogeys to his final-round card for a 65. He had carded 66 and 68 in the previous two rounds. The 46-year-old has seen a resurgence in his LIV Golf career this season, with three top-10 finishes. In his previous three seasons, he had only achieved one top-10 finish, at the 2023 Tulsa event (10th). More Golf: LIV Golf Doubles Down, Reportedly To Award Record-Breaking Purses In 2026

Working out in public can be scary! Killer Fitness embraces the horror with ‘Slashercise'

On a recent 90-degree morning, a dozen or so gals and a couple guys of varying ages and sizes, some wearing flamboyant retro leg warmers and spandex, stand outside of a hot pink and black Burbank storefront. They're all about to fight for their lives and test their endurance during an hour-long workout like no other. While they jump, kick and punch, menacing monsters and serial killers (Pinhead from 'Hellraiser,' Freddy Krueger from 'A Nightmare on Elm Street') appear behind them, looped on a giant video screen. Will they survive Slashercise? The signature class at the new workout space called Killer Fitness, which doubles as a gift shop filled with clothing and movie memorabilia, is led by co-owner Vanessa Decker. She rocks the studio's campy branded ensembles — some with blood splatter designs, others with fangs and skulls — as she demonstrates movements that bring to mind iconic scream scenes. 'Horror movies are a form of adrenaline-pumping escapism and so is exercise,' says Decker, when asked how the idea of melding horror and fitness came to be. 'I don't know, it just works!' But it takes real physicality too. There are stabbing actions and fight-for-your-life moves as Decker throws out petrifying puns, making the class chuckle between huffs and puffs. There are also props: plastic chainsaws and fake knives, which might seem like schlocky touches but help with strength training. The repetitive movements, inspired by vintage Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons tapes, burn calories and tone muscles. After my first class, my arms, thighs and calves were sore for days. Killer Fitness opened in May with the hope that horror's increasing popularity at the box office could translate to this unique, in-person third space. It offers 20 exercise classes a week (available on ClassPass) and hosts evening film screenings with panels and Q&As. The day and night offerings are part of a larger spooky universe that's helped Decker become a tastemaker online, amassing 133,000 followers through her 'Horror Vixen' identity on Instagram. Decker and partner Ama Lea connected at 'Slashback Video,' a 2017 art installation that recreated a vintage video store environment at the Mystic Museum, a horror hub in Burbank. Real and reimagined movie packaging filled the exhibit, and Lea created a box for a fake film called 'Slashercise.' 'It all began with 'Linnea Quigley's Horror Workout,'' says Lea, who designed the piece in homage to the B-movie actress' underground classic. 'She was a scream queen, but her workout video was mostly just funny skits, like doing aerobics with zombies and stuff. We started talking about making a real horror-themed workout film with Vanessa starring and me directing — the concept was a slasher movie that had actual routines in between. We got horror celebrities to be in it and eventually, we found our narrative.' 'Slashersise,' the 2024 movie, features a serial killer named 'Meathead' (his head is literally a piece of raw beef) bludgeoning instructors at an L.A. gym. Routines are spliced into low-budget practical effects, gore and gags, inspired by other horror movies with fitness themes like 'Death Spa,' 'Body Melt' and 'Killer Workout.' The pair garnered momentum for the DVD after appearing on horror streaming service Shudder's 'The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs' (the hosts make cameos) and soon, fans started asking where they could experience Slashersise for real. Last year, at Midsummer Scream, a popular L.A. horror convention, they presented workout skits and had a life-changing conversation with the owners of Dark Delicacies, the landmark Burbank retailer known for creepy collectibles and comics. Owners Del and Sue Howison were planning to close after three decades in business and offered Lea and Decker (and silent partner Kay Elyse) first dibs on their retail space for the campy cardio concept. Fast forward a year later, and Killer Fitness is now a bustling brick-and-mortar shop with a horror-driven boutique and on-theme exercise experiences. 'Horror Yoga' is focused on restorative stretching, while 'Fitness Ghouls' offers low-impact exercise. 'TERRORTwist,' a high-energy dance workout, feels like a rigorous rehearsal. Mashing tunes from Lady Gaga ('Zombieboy') and She Wants Revenge ('Tear You Apart') with blood-pumping choreography from Michael Jackson's 'Thriller,' 'Little Shop of Horrors' and 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show,' the class is one of the more challenging on the schedule, but instructor Angie 'Starheart' Shriner makes it entertaining and approachable, reminding the class to listen to their body parts. 'Killer Fitness is special to me because it's inclusive, no judgment, and it's just a bunch of people who have a horror obsession blending it into the exercise,' says Roxie Rose, a makeup and tattoo artist who frequents Shriner's class. 'This is the place I go to have fun and get away from everyday life.' 'We're here for everybody and all body types,' adds Lea, who also designs the shop's workout wear in a wide range of sizes. 'That's so important to us. Of course, most of the people who come in are horror fans, too. ' But you don't have to be obsessed with frightful fare to fit in. Killer Fitness is at its core a celebration of nostalgic pop culture and the community that connects with it. And mastering moves like a fierce 'final girl' is doable with effort and consistency. (All instructors are certified by the American Council on Exercise.) Decker differentiates Killer Fitness from chain gyms, which she calls bright and annoying. 'Working out can be daunting, so we just want it to feel inviting,' she says, adding that there are themed workouts all around L.A., like goat yoga. 'So why not a gym for horror fans?'
