Speed up work on ongoing R&B projects: Komatireddy
Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has directed officials to accelerate ongoing construction works under the R&B Department, especially those nearing completion and ready for public use.
The Minister said that the R&B Department carries major responsibilities and urged officers to prioritise and finish critical infrastructure projects swiftly. Mr. Venkat Reddy reviewed the progress of works taken up by the department with senior officials on Sunday.
The Minister inquired about the status of pending Integrated District Office Complexes (IDOCs) in Adilabad, Warangal, Mulugu, Narayanpet and Karimnagar districts. Officials brought to his notice the issue of pending payment of bills.
He wanted officials to ensure completion of IDOCs in Warangal and Mulugu, which were in final stages, so that they were kept ready for inauguration. Referring to the rail-over-bridges, he specifically wanted the completion of Madhavnagar ROB in Nizamabad at the earliest. Officials were directed to focus on the construction of medical colleges and TIMS that were in the final stages of completion.
Emphasising the need for quality road infrastructure, he cited Greater Hyderabad, which witnessed movement of over 91 lakh vehicles every day calling for the need for high quality road infrastructure in both urban and rural parts of the State.
The Minister assured that he would discuss and resolve pending bills of contractors and work agencies with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Chandrababu Naidu unveils ₹1,500 crpre road development plan
In a significant push to modernise Andhra Pradesh's road infrastructure, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced the construction of 2,000 kilometers of new roads at a cost of ₹1,000 crore and the repair of damaged roads worth ₹500 crore. The Chief Minister directed officials to expedite cost estimations and initiate the tendering process immediately. Presiding over a review meeting with the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department at the State Secretariat on Thursday, Mr. Naidu emphasised that road repairs must be carried out continuously, even during the monsoon season, to ensure early completion. He expressed concern over the poor state of roads, blaming years of neglect under the previous administration. The Chief Minister has set a 15-day deadline for officials to submit a comprehensive report detailing roads requiring repair, new road proposals, and maintenance needs. He stressed the need for adopting cutting-edge technologies in road construction to reduce costs and enhance quality. Officials briefed the Chief Minister that 20,000 km of roads have already been repaired to make them pothole-free. 'Our roads must meet the quality standards of national highways,' the Chief Minister asserted, adding that construction of all roads should commence by November, immediately after the monsoon ends. Details regarding contractors responsible for construction and maintenance must be made publicly available online. Additionally, CCTV cameras are to be installed every 50 km along major roads, and all road maintenance work will be assigned to contractors. Mr. Naidu also called for preventive measures to avoid monsoon-related damages. Public-Private Partnership to play a key role Officials informed Mr. Naidu that the state currently has 12,653 km of state highways. Of this, 260 roads stretching over 10,200 km are suitable for development under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Under Phase 1A, 18 high-density roads totaling 1,332 km have been proposed. Phase 1B includes 67 roads exceeding 40 km each, collectively spanning 3,854 km. Another 175 roads, each between 20 and 40 km in length, have been proposed under Phase 2, covering a total of 5,039 km. Two strategic roads—Yelamanchili to Gajuwaka and Gajulamandyam to Sri City (SEZ), totaling 115 km—have also been identified for PPP development. The Chief Minister directed officials to conduct feasibility studies and submit a final report on these proposals.

Govt approves Rs 6,478 crore road devpt programme
Hyderabad: In a significant move aimed at strengthening rural connectivity and regional infrastructure, the Telangana government has approved a Rs 6,478 crore road development programme, to be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). Announcing the initiative, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy stated that the project marks a major step in the state's push for balanced development. 'Good roads are more than just infrastructure — they are the foundation for economic growth and regional equality. This initiative will connect every village to its mandal and every mandal to its district headquarters with high-quality roads,' the Minister emphasised. As part of Phase-1, works will commence across 17 packages, encompassing 373 roads with a total length of 5,190 km. Tenders have already been floated, and construction is anticipated to begin shortly. The comprehensive plan envisions blacktop roads linking all villages to mandal centres, and double-lane roads connecting mandals to district headquarters. This is expected to drastically improve transportation, access to essential services, and local mobility across the state. Minister Venkat Reddy expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his swift approval of the plan, reiterating that infrastructure development remains a core priority for the government. He also acknowledged and appreciated the diligent efforts of senior officials from the Roads and Buildings Department and Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, who supervised multiple field visits and were instrumental in preparing a detailed project report. 'This government believes in growth that reaches the grassroots. With HAM, we are not just laying roads — we're laying the path to Telangana's future,' the Minister added. The government has positioned this extensive road programme as part of a broader commitment to deliver both welfare and development, maintaining a strong focus on long-term transformation rather than merely short-term fixes.

Mahalakshmi scheme empowered women, avers Bhatti
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced on Wednesday that the government has consistently reimbursed the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) for zero-fare tickets issued under the popular Mahalakshmi scheme, an initiative he stated is significantly bolstering the Corporation's financial health. During celebrations marking the issuance of 200 crore zero tickets, the Minister formally presented a cheque for Rs 6,680 crore to the Corporation. The grand celebrations took place on Wednesday at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS). The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. Together, they felicitated women utilising the Mahalakshmi free bus travel facility and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the RTC staff. Bhatti Vikramarka further announced that since the current government took office, the Corporation has acquired 2,400 new buses. He emphasised that TGSRTC is actively pursuing the procurement of an additional 2,800 electric buses, a move aimed at transforming Hyderabad into a pollution-free city. He highlighted that electric buses already constitute 11 per cent of the existing fleet. The Deputy Chief Minister also underscored that the scheme not only provides free travel but has also empowered women by facilitating their involvement as bus owners. He assured comprehensive government support for the RTC. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar extended his congratulations to the RTC staff for the successful implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme, noting its deep integration into the daily lives of women across the state. To commemorate women completing 200 crore journeys, he announced that grand celebrations are planned across 97 depots and 324 bus stations statewide. Prabhakar also stressed that TGSRTC is prioritising improved transport facilities for passengers and enhancing the welfare of its employees. Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy reiterated that the free bus travel initiative will not only reduce travel costs for women but will also yield significant advantages for the RTC. TGSRTC Managing Director VC Sajjanar announced that the Mahalakshmi scheme is currently operational across 7,913 buses, with an impressive average of 3.5 million women utilising these services daily. He highlighted a remarkable surge in the occupancy ratio (OR), which has risen from 69% prior to the scheme's launch to an impressive 97%. Sajjanar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the RTC staff for their pivotal role in the scheme's successful implementation. Special Principal Secretary of the Transport Department Vikas Raj, Hyderabad Collector Dasari Harichandan, RTC Executive Directors Munishekhar, Khusroshah Khan, Rajasekhar, Venkanna, and Finance Advisor Vijayapushfa were also in attendance.
