Miami football player was driver in wreck that killed three, two of which were children, police say
Linebacker Adarius Hayes was injured in the wreck, but was released from the hospital.
The people killed in the Kia Soul were aged 78, 10, and 4.
"We are deeply saddened to learn the crash resulted in three fatalities, as confirmed by Largo Police, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those lost," the Hurricanes said in a statement.
The school is still working to gather further information.
Another passenger in the Kia was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
"There were no signs of impairment with either driver of the vehicles," Largo Police public information officer Megan Santo said in a statement distributed Sunday.
The Orlando Sentinel noted that Hayes has a history of driving citations, including several instances of speeding, and another for careless driving that resulted in a separate crash.
Hayes played in 12 games as a freshman for Miami last season, mostly on special teams. He was a four-star recruit coming out of Largo High and picked Miami after drawing interest from Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among others.
Largo is about 20 miles east of Tampa and about 15 miles north of St. Petersburg on Florida's Gulf coast

Some were convinced he was killed in an effort to keep concealed a 'list' of his high-profile co-conspirators, despite longtime observers repeatedly indicating that no such list existed. President Donald Trump said during his 2024 campaign that he'd publicly release such records if he was elected again. But after he returned to office, his Administration disappointed anticipators of the so-called 'Epstein Files' when it touted a batch of mostly already public records, despite Attorney General Pam Bondi having previously said that the client list was 'sitting on my desk right now to review.' Bondi at the time blamed the FBI for not abiding by her directive to provide the 'full and complete' set of Epstein-related documents in the government's possession, and right-wing conspiracy theorists have since turned on FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, both of whom had previously promoted Epstein-related conspiracy theories, for supposedly succumbing to the so-called 'Deep State' since taking up their roles. After Trump's ally-turned-critic Elon Musk left the Administration at the end of May, Musk fueled further conspiracy theories and calls for transparency when he suggested that Trump was implicated in unreleased Epstein files. 'That is the real reason they have not been made public,' Musk wrote in a since-deleted post on X. (Trump has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in his associations with Epstein.) But a new Justice Department and FBI memo, obtained by Axios and ABC News, aims to put the Epstein conspiracy theories to rest, asserting that there is no evidence that the man who 'harmed over one thousand victims' was murdered, engaged in blackmail, or kept a client list. The memo cited and provided links hosted on the website to video footage of the Manhattan facility where Epstein was detained when he died. The Justice Department and FBI did not immediately confirm nor deny the authenticity of the memo, which was unsigned and undated. TIME has reached out to both for comment. 'One of our highest priorities is combatting child exploitation and bringing justice to victims,' the memo stated. 'Perpetuating unfounded theories about Epstein serves neither of those ends.' 'We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties,' the memo also stated, adding that 'no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted.' Already, the memo has incited furious reactions on the right. 'So Epstein was trafficking these underage girls to nobody? Is Pam Bondi serious?' conservative activist Robby Starbuck posted on X. 'What Epstein and his ilk did was pure evil and this memo attempts to just close the book on it like there's no one else involved.' Parrish pedestrian, 19, dies after being struck by pickup on U.S. 301
A 19-year-old Parrish man was killed when he was struck by a pickup after he entered the southbound lane of U.S. 301 on foot. The collision happened at 9:38 a.m. Saturday, July 5 south of Prosperity Lakes Boulevard, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The pickup was traveling south on U.S. 301 and the pedestrian was also in the southbound lane. The front right of the pickup hit the pedestrian, the report said. The driver of the pickup, a 31-year-old Wimauma man, was uninjured. The Parrish man was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation. No major injuries in Manitowoc 3-vehicle crash, SUV flips on its side
MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities reported no major injuries following a three-vehicle crash in Manitowoc just before midnight on the Fourth of July, where an SUV flipped onto its side. Around 11:40 p.m. on Friday, July 4, the Manitowoc Police Department was alerted to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of North 8th Street and Waldo Boulevard in Manitowoc. It had been reported that one vehicle was on its side. Multiple roads in northwest Wisconsin washed out due to heavy rain, severe flooding Authorities closed portions of Waldo and North 8th due to the crash that involved two SUVs and a pickup truck. It was noted that the crash only involved three adults, two from Manitowoc and one from Green Bay. Officers determined, thanks to the help of witnesses, that the crash happened when a northbound SUV on North 8th entered the intersection of Waldo Boulevard and crashed with a westbound SUV. That collision reportedly caused the northbound SUV to flip and land on the hood of a pickup truck before rolling over on its side. Improperly thrown away fireworks leads to garage fire in Fond du Lac home The driver of the SUV on its side, had to be helped out by first responders due to the damage to the SUV and its positioning. All three drivers were evaluated at the scene by Manitowoc Fire and Rescue, and officers noted that no major injuries were reported.
