
"A deeply disturbing incident" - Person killed in suspected arson attack on car
The PSNI received a report from members of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) at 2.05pm on Saturday afternoon that a silver Mitsubishi Lancer GS2 was on fire in the Rylagh Road area of Omagh.
"As fire officers extinguished the blaze they discovered that, tragically, a person had died as a result of the fire," PSNI Detective Inspector Keon said in a statement.
'We are treating this fire as arson, and our enquiries as to how the person came to be beside the vehicle are ongoing. "
Detectives in Omagh are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have issued an appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

'We would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area between midday and 2.15pm yesterday, who may have noticed anything suspicious, to contact us. We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who had dashcam or other footage and would also like to hear from anyone who may have noticed this particular vehicle.

He added: 'It is heartbreaking that someone has died in such harrowing circumstances. People in the area are understandably anxious and looking for answers. It is critical that anyone with information – no matter how small – reports it to the PSNI. The victim's family deserves truth and justice. I will be following developments closely and supporting efforts to ensure a full investigation.'

Police had originally said they were treating the incident as arson, but in an update today they said the death is not believed to be suspicious. The PSNI said in a statement: 'The person who died following a vehicle fire outside Omagh on Saturday afternoon, 2nd August, has been confirmed as a female in her 30s. 'A post-mortem has concluded and family has been informed. At this stage, her death is not believed to be suspicious." TRIBUTES AFTER ARMAGH TRAGEDY It comes after a man died from his injuries in hospital after falling from a moving car in Co Armagh last month. Aaron Samuel Moffett passed away on Friday, just a month after the tragic accident in the Markethill area. Aaron's heartbroken family confirmed the 38-year-old "went to sleep one last time surrounded by his loving family" on Friday. They added: "Our hero, too kind for this world." He is survived by his wife Lindsey, parents John and Florence, sister Hannah, parents-in-law Philip and Jennifer, siblings-in-law Ashley, Chris and Vicky and nephews Bodhi, Sonny, Carson and Arthur. They stated that the house is strictly private and the funeral service will commence on Wednesday at 2pm in Knocknamuckley Parish Church, followed by a private committal. The family appealed that mourners make donations for the benefit of REVIVE and Northern Ireland Air Ambulance.

Man, 70s, dies two days after incident at property
A man in his 70s has died two days after an incident at a house in Waterford City that left him with injuries and unresponsive at the scene. Gardai in Waterford are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of the man. He passed away in hospital on Sunday, August 3, two days after the incident on Friday, August 1. Gardai and emergency services responded to reports of an incident at a residential property in St Catherine's Grange shortly after 2pm on Friday.. The male in his 70s was discovered at the scene with injuries and in an unresponsive condition. He was transported to University Hospital Waterford for treatment and was pronounced deceased on Sunday, August 3. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene during the incident and subsequently detained at a Garda station within the Waterford-Kilkenny Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He was later charged in relation to the investigation and appeared before Waterford District Court on Sunday. Man found dead in pool of blood named amid fears he was undiscovered for days
The man whose body was found at his home in Tipperary has been named locally as Ian Walsh. He was aged 49. It's understood he was a former Irish Rail employee and now worked as a bus driver. His body was found at his home in the Cregg Road area of Carrick-on-Suir in the early hours on Monday morning. Gardai are treating his death as suspicious. Sources say he was found in a pool of blood and investigators fear he suffered a violent death. But the sources stressed a post mortem, expected to be carried out on Tuesday, would determine the direction of the Garda investigation. Although his remains were found at around 3.30am on Monday, gardai want to hear from anyone who was in the area from 8pm on Friday. One line of inquiry is that he may have been dead for several days. Tributes have been paid online to Mr Walsh, known to his friends as Squinty, this evening. One pal said: "A good friend from day one, there will never be another railwayman like Ian. Rip Squinty.'
