The animated action-musical KPop Demon Hunters has become a global sensation, topping Netflix's movie charts in 41 countries just days after its release. According to streaming analytics platform FlixPatrol, the film claimed the No. 1 spot in major markets including South Korea, the United States, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Portugal as of June 24. The movie debuted globally on June 20.
*KPop Demon Hunters* follows the story of Huntrix, a fictional K-pop girl group composed of members Rumi, Mira, and Joy, who lead double lives as secret demon hunters when they're not performing on stage. The film combines fast-paced action with musical elements, blending modern K-pop with fantasy and traditional Korean folklore.
The film attracted early buzz with a star-studded voice cast, including Lee Byung-hun and Ahn Hyo-seop. The theme song, performed by TWICE members Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung, boosted its appeal among global K-pop fans.
Behind the scenes, the film was directed by Chris Appelhans (Hotel Transylvania) and Korean Canadian filmmaker Maggie Kang, and produced by Sony Pictures Animation. Kang, who was born in Seoul and raised in Toronto, emphasized her intent to weave Korean culture into the film's design and narrative. She cited early influences from first-generation K-pop stars like Seo Taiji and H.O.T.
Visually, the film is celebrated for showcasing uniquely Korean aesthetics. Iconic landmarks such as N Seoul Tower and traditional giwajip rooftops appear prominently, alongside folklore-inspired figures like the jeoseungsaja, a traditional grim reaper.
With its mix of cultural authenticity and international appeal, KPop Demon Hunters has quickly earned acclaim and chart-topping success on Netflix across diverse global audiences.

Cate Blanchett shocks fans with Squid Game season 3 cameo

Cate Blanchett makes a surprise cameo in the final moments of Squid Game Season 3, which was released globally on June 27, 2025. She plays a mysterious recruiter in what appears to be a US based extension of the deadly game. The scene is set in Los Angeles, where Blanchett's character engages in a game of ddakji with a man on the street mirroring the original recruitment method from Season 1. After delivering a slap and handing over the familiar invitation card, she walks away, while the Front Man observes the interaction from a distance. The brief yet impactful appearance has led to immediate speculation about a potential American spin-off of the series. Show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed Blanchett's involvement was kept under wraps and praised her for filming the scene in a single take. He noted her charisma and precision made her an ideal fit for the teaser-style role. Though Netflix has not officially confirmed an American version of Squid Game, industry reports suggest development discussions are underway. Blanchett's cameo is being interpreted by fans and critics as a strategic setup for a global franchise expansion. Season 3 continued Seong Gi-hun's journey and expanded on the international scope of the Squid Game operations. Reviews have been mostly positive, praising the show's sustained tension, thematic complexity, and the unexpected twist in its closing moments. Blanchett's role, brief but symbolically loaded adds a new layer to the series' evolving universe, possibly positioning her as a central figure in future installments beyond South Korea.

K-pop girl group aespa's latest single album, Dirty Work, has surpassed one million pre-orders as of late June 2025. This is their sixth consecutive release to reach this milestone, following previous albums including Girls, MY WORLD, Drama, Armageddon, and Whiplash. Additionally, aespa released a performance video for Dirty Work that was filmed entirely on the iPhone 16 Pro. This project showcases a combination of music and new technology. A limited edition version of the single, called the 'Dirty Crew Ring,' is scheduled for release on July 4, 2025.
