Behind enemy lines -- What USC fans should know about the TCU Horned Fogs
USC baseball is headed back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 10 years. On Friday, the Trojans will open postseason play versus TCU in the 2-3 game of the Corvallis Regional.
What can USC fans expect from the Horned Frogs? On Tuesday, I spoke with Avery Hamel, who covers Big 12 baseball for the Lawrence Journal-World, to discuss TCU.
"While TCU lost some games down the stretch against some less than stellar Big 12 competition (UCF and Utah), the Horned Frogs present a very complete competition against any team," Hamel said. "They were second in the conference in players named to the All-Big 12 First Team with three and provided the Freshman of the Year for the conference in Sawyer Strosnider, who should be among best player conversations in Division I, not just the freshman class. On the other end, they have the lowest ERA in the Big 12 (4.24) with ace Tommy LaPour leading the way and getting significant help from bullpen contributors like Louis Rodriguez."
With it being the tournament opener, USC will likely have to face LaPour, presenting a challenge for the Trojans' lineup. Expect Andy Stankiewicz to counter with his own ace, Caden Aoki, who emerged as one of the top pitchers in the Big Ten down the stretch run.
First pitch between USC and TCU is set for noon Pacific time on Friday. The game will be televised on ESPNU and ESPN+.

Damian Lillard lands GM job at alma mater Weber State after Trail Blazers reunion
Damian Lillard is going back to school. The nine-time NBA All-Star announced Saturday that he will serve as the general manager for the basketball program at Weber State, his alma mater, while recovering from a torn left Achilles this season. The 35-year-old Lillard signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Trail Blazers, his original NBA team, in July after he was waived by the Bucks following two seasons in Milwaukee. Advertisement Lillard, who played four collegiate seasons at Weber State before getting drafted sixth overall by Portland in 2012, announced his new gig while hosting an alumni game at the Ogden, Utah, school. 'It's something that, my relationship with coach (Eric) Duft and this program means a lot to me, and seeing the success of the program means a lot to me,' Lillard told the crowd, according to the Ogden Standard-Examiner. 4 Damian Lillard began his NBA career with the Trail Blazers in 2012. The Wildcats finished 12-22 last season, including a 5-13 mark in the Big Sky Conference, and they haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 2016. Jayson Tatum of the Celtics and Tyrese Haliburton of the Pacers also suffered season-ending Achilles injuries in this year's playoffs. Lillard averaged 24.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.1 assists last season with the Bucks.

CBS Sports predicts Michigan State football's first loss of the 2025 season
Who will be the Spartans first loss of the 2025 season? Brad Crawford of CBS Sports has an answer. Crawford recently released his projected first loss for every Big Ten team, and the Spartans' first defeat of the season is not all too surprising. Crawford sees Michigan State's first loss coming out in Los Angeles during the Spartans' first road trip of the season at USC on September 20. This is also the Spartans' first Big Ten game of the season. Here's what Crawford had to say about Michigan State: "The Spartans will go as far as Aidan Chiles can take them, as long as the defense holds up. Barring an early stumble, a potential season-defining Week 4 clash in Los Angeles could turn the tide for Jonathan Smith's first season -- though winning at the Coliseum won't come easy." With Crawford predicting the Spartans' first loss coming at USC, this would mean he believes Michigan State will open the season 3-0 with a perfect non-conference record. That is notable because the Spartans host Boston College during a marquee week two matchup from Spartan Stadium -- which I personally consider a make-or-break game for the 2025 season. USC unveils new scoreboard at Galen Center
The start of the new USC athletics season continues to draw closer and closer. The Trojans' first football game is less than a month away, and other USC sports are not far off, either. This year, Galen Center will once again be home to the Trojans' basketball and volleyball teams. This week, USC unveiled a new, larger scoreboard inside the arena. The scoreboard is just the latest enhancement to the arena over the past few years. In recent seasons, the Trojans have added new banners commemorating USC's legacy of national championships and remodeled the building's main lobby. In each of the past two years, Galen Center has hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The new scoreboard will see its first use when the USC women's volleyball team plays its first home match on August 29. The men's and women's basketball teams will open up their respective seasons in early November.
