Don Diablo, Metro Boomin, Quavo & More Set Saudi Stages on Fire in MDLBEAST's Second Summer Weekend

Identity4 days ago
From Arabic trap to EDM drops, Saudi talent stood tall alongside Quavo, Metro Boomin, and Don Diablo in a weekend that fused cultures, sounds, and cities.
The heat didn't let up. As MDLBEAST's ONYX and AFT_r series rolled into its second weekend, the energy in Jeddah and Riyadh only got louder, prouder, and more unforgettable.
AFT_r made its return to the ANB Arena on Thursday night, turning Riyadh into a sonic battleground where global stars shared the stage with rising Saudi voices. Jeed opened with a fiery set laced with Arabic trap and raw charisma, while Saüd flexed a more melodic, R&B-infused sound rooted in local rhythm. Together, they didn't just open the night — they owned it.
Then came the heavyweights. Quavo brought Southern swagger and hit after hit, while Metro Boomin proved why his beats have become the pulse of a generation, dropping a high-concept, cinematic set. Don Diablo closed the night in full throttle, serving euphoric drops and future house emotion that turned the arena into a dance floor at full tilt.
On Friday, it was Jeddah's turn. ONYX Arena pulsed with anticipation — and delivered. Jeed and Saüd adapted their sets to the coastal crowd, with Jeed inviting comedian-turned-musician Moayed Alnefaie to the stage for a surprise moment that had the audience roaring. Metro Boomin turned heads with a powerful entrance in a traditional Saudi thobe, while Don Diablo and Quavo once again sent the crowd into overdrive.
Each city had its own rhythm, but the message was clear: Saudi's music scene is no longer just watching — it's leading.
With Central Cee, R3HAB, Meduza, and the Black Eyed Peas still on deck, the MDLBEAST summer series is more than a festival run — it's a cultural movement in motion.

Danny Arafa's New Book Reimagines Cairo Through a Child's Eyes

In Takhayal Takhayal, Danny Arafa invites children and adults alike to see Cairo anew through rhymes, illustrations, and a world where the overlooked becomes magical. Jul 31, 2025 A strange green creature munches on mangoes at the souk. A baker inflates baladi bread like balloons. A multicoloured lion hides in a side alley. This author and illustrator Danny Arafa's Cairo. Takhayal Takhayal (تخيل تخيل), a new children's book by Danny Arafa, reimagines the city in all its surreal, playful glory. Published by Asfoura Books, the book is a vivid, rhyming journey through Cairo's overlooked corners, designed to spark wonder in children and nostalgia in adults. Written entirely in Egyptian Arabic, the story moves briskly through vegetable markets, rooftops, and quiet neighbourhoods, bringing them to life with whimsical illustrations and a sharp eye for everyday beauty. 'Takhayal Takhayal is a new kids' book that invites children (and grown-ups) to reimagine the Cairo they thought they knew,' Arafa tells CairoScene. At its heart, the book is a deliberate call to slow down and observe. Whether it's a shuttered window or a crack in the sidewalk, Arafa wants children to see potential in the overlooked. 'Imagination made my world bigger and richer as a child,' he reflects. 'That imagination turned into curiosity as I grew older. That's what I hope Takhayal Takhayal brings to others. Especially kids growing up in Egypt today.' Arafa, known for the Arabic kids' podcast Qesas le Atfal Elnaharda and picture books like Pack Pals and The Dace That Flew to Space, brings his signature rhythm and colour to this latest release. The result is a book that's as charming for toddlers as it is meaningful for the adults reading to them.
