Advisory Committee reviews constitutional framework for elections with 6+6 Joint Committee

The Advisory Committee formed by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) held a meeting on Tuesday with the Joint Committee of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, known as the 6+6 Committee, which had previously drafted Libya's parliamentary and presidential election laws.
The meeting, facilitated by UNSMIL, focused on exchanging ideas for potential amendments that would make the constitutional and legal framework for elections more practical and implementable.
UN envoy Hanna Tetteh stressed to both committees the importance of such consultations in reinforcing Libyan ownership of the political process. She has noted that UNSMIL will draw on these discussions as it finalizes the roadmap expected to be unveiled during the upcoming UN Security Council briefing.
The two committees resumed their meeting on Wednesday to continue discussing ways to establish a legislative and constitutional environment conducive to holding free and inclusive elections in Libya, according to UNSMIL's statement. Tags: UNSMIL Advisory Committee 6+6 Committee
