Govt open to views for online ecosystem growth
KUALA LUMPUR: The government is always open to receiving views and suggestions from various parties as part of efforts to strengthen the country's online ecosystem, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister said concern towards online business conduct is extremely crucial to ensuring the interests of users are always protected.
'It is also to ensure fair and healthy competition in the digital economy,' he posted on Facebook.
Fahmi, who is also the government spokesman, said he received a memorandum from Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung outside Dewan Rakyat here yesterday regarding a proposal for a more integrated mechanism to monitor digital business conduct, Bernama reported.
He said that Lee's proposal came amid the rapid development of social media and e-commerce platforms, such as WeChat, Xiaohongshu, Shopee Live and TikTok Shop, in the country.

New water tariff rates in Melaka effective Aug 1 for sustainable supply
MELAKA: Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad (SAMB) has implemented new water tariff rates effective August 1 to ensure the sustainability and stability of the state's water supply system. In a statement, SAMB clarified that the revised rates would not burden the majority of households, particularly the 312,396 registered users who consume water prudently. The updated tariff structure includes: • Domestic (Residential): Minimum charge of RM9.40, with rates ranging from RM0.94/m³ for 0-20 cubic metres to RM2.26/m³ for usage exceeding 35 cubic metres. • Domestic (Residential Bulk Meter): A flat rate of RM2.22/m³ with a minimum charge of RM25. • Business/Industry/Government: Rates start at RM2.66/m³ for 0-35 cubic metres, increasing to RM2.72/m³ beyond that threshold, with a minimum charge of RM26.60. • Places of Worship/Charitable Institutions: Fixed at RM1.01/m³ with a minimum charge of RM10.10. • Shipping: A steep rate of RM8.02/m³ with an RM80.20 minimum charge. • Data Centres: Charged RM5.32/m³, with a minimum fee of RM53.20. SAMB emphasised that the revised tariffs will fund critical infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Jus and Jernih Water Treatment Plants, pipeline upgrades across Melaka, and improved sludge waste management. KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will intensify its crackdown on corruption, financial leakages, and power abuse by upgrading operational tools, deepening forensic capabilities, and accelerating asset recovery. Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the move aligns with the governance reforms highlighted in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Azam stressed the commission's dual focus: rigorous enforcement and societal integrity education. Raja Muda of Selangor honours entrepreneurs at PLATS Awards Night
KLANG: Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, graced the Platform Selangor (PLATS) Awards Night (MAPS) to recognise the achievements of local entrepreneurs. The event highlighted the success of participants in the U-PLATS Digital and U-PLATS Halal programmes. Accompanied by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and other dignitaries, Tengku Amir Shah presented awards to 22 entrepreneurs. The U-PLATS Digital awards included categories such as Main Micro Entrepreneur, Special Category Awards (Community, Youth, Revolution, Technology, Innovation, and Women), and best micro entrepreneur at the local authority level. Meanwhile, the U-PLATS Halal awards recognised participants who obtained the Malaysian Halal Confirmation Certificate. Award recipients received Point of Sales (POS) systems and training worth RM4,000 to enhance their business operations. Additionally, 10 entrepreneurs under the U-PLATS Halal programme received RM5,000 in sponsorship, with four already securing halal certification and four others in the approval process. During his speech, Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari highlighted that over 8,000 micro traders have benefited from PLATS programmes, gaining digitalisation access, training, and financial support. He called for collaboration among government agencies, industry players, and financial institutions to further develop micro and small businesses.
