2 dead in blaze at ‘illegal' e-rickshaw charging point in Delhi's Dilshad Colony
According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the fire originated from two e-rickshaws and a bike near the charging station on the ground floor and rapidly spread to the upper floors. 'We received a call at 11.32pm about a battery rickshaw fire inside a house. Four fire tenders were dispatched to the spot in Kodi Colony, Dilshad Garden,' said Atul Garg, DFS Chief.
DFS said the station was operating illegally without permits or alternative exits, and urged police action. To be sure, e-rickshaw charging stations operating in Delhi requires permission from MCD, who check all legal documents and inspect the equipment.
The fire, suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit in the charging equipment, was brought under control by 12.35am, officials said, adding that 4 fire tenders were pressed into service. 'The fire affected three vehicles and a charging point in a three-storey building. Most victims were rescued but two sustained severe burns and were rushed to GTB Hospital,' Garg added.
The deceased were identified as Sashi Kumar, 25, who lived with his family in the building, and Ballu, 55, a homeless man resting on the ground floor. Both were declared brought dead at GTB Hospital, officials said.
DCP (northeast) Ashish Mishra said, 'A woman was rescued and two men died. The ground floor was being used for e-rickshaw charging. Crime and FSL teams were called.' A case has been filed under BNS sections 106(1) and 287 for negligent conduct causing death and fire hazard.
The incident is the fourth fire linked to e-rickshaw charging points in three weeks. In three recent incidents, fires at e-rickshaw charging points in Ghonda, Ram Nagar, and Vishvas Nagar injured 10 and killed two. A May 25 Ram Nagar blaze killed two sugarcane juice vendors and injured four others. On May 19, six, including two children, were hurt in Vishvas Nagar. All fires reportedly stemmed from short circuits and illegal setups, officials said.

A police official said one of the fraudsters identified himself as CBI officer Dayanayak. Over the next three days, Nandi was coerced into transferring ₹1.29 crore into multiple bank accounts. Realising that he had been duped, an FIR was registered at the Bareilly cybercrime police station on June 26 under sections 318(4), 319(2), 308(6), 61(2), and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 66D of the IT Act. Following this, the STF was assigned to assist with the investigation, the press release stated. Acting on a tip-off, the STF team arrested four suspects on Friday near a flyover in Gomti Nagar Extension. Those arrested were identified as Shyam Kumar (Sitapur), Rajneesh Dwivedi and Sudhir Kumar Chaurasia (Gonda), and Mahendra Pratap Singh alias Chandan Singh (Balrampur). All were currently living in Lucknow. STF officials said that efforts were underway to identify and arrest other key players in the racket.

UPSC aspirant among two killed in Karol Bagh shop fire
NEW DELHI: Two men died after a fire broke out at Vishal Mega Mart in central Delhi's Karol Bagh area, police said on Saturday. One of the deceased has been identified as Kumar Dhirender Pratap (25), a UPSC aspirant, who was found dead inside a lift. Police suspect he died due to suffocation after getting trapped during the fire, but the exact cause will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. The second victim has been identified as Pawan Gautam (30), whose charred body was recovered from the second floor on Saturday afternoon. A native of Aligarh, Pawan was working as a Lab Testing MTS and had been living on rent in Rajendra Nagar, police said. 'The fire broke out on Friday evening at the four-storey showroom, which houses fabric and grocery items,' said DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan. Delhi Fire Services said they received a call about the blaze at 6:44 pm on Friday. A total of 26 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and firefighting operations are still underway. Dhirender was declared brought dead at RML Hospital,' the DCP said, adding, 'One more unidentified charred body was later found inside the building premises.' 'A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to negligence,' a senior police officer said. Investigators are also examining whether fire safety protocols—such as functional fire exits, extinguishers, and alarms—were in place at the time of the incident. According to fire officials, a thorough search and assessment of the building will only be conducted once the fire is fully under control. The cause of the fire will be determined after a detailed investigation. Dhirender's brother, Virendra, said his brother had recently returned to the city after a break at home and had appeared for the UPSC prelims. He was staying in a rented accommodation in Karol Bagh. 'Dhirender sent me messages from inside the elevator,' Virendra said, adding, 'He said, 'I'm in the lift. Karol Bagh Mega Mart.' in his final message and was having trouble breathing and asked me to do something. After that, there were no more messages. He had just come back 2 days ago and was trying to restart studies'.

Panchkula: One more arrested in ₹18L cyber fraud case
Following a complaint filed by Jagmendaer Singh on June 19, the cybercrime police have apprehended the second accused in a ₹18.79 lakh cyber fraud case. The accused, identified as Nitish Kumar alias Johney, is a resident of Jaspal Colony, Ludhiana. He was held on July 2 and subsequently taken to a three-day police remand. Police have registered a case under sections 316(2), 318(4), 319(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). (HT photo for representation) According to police, Nitish Kumar's role in the fraud was to procure bank accounts from unsuspecting individuals and provide them to the cyber fraudsters for the initial transactions of the defrauded amount. Earlier, on June 21, Vijay Kumar from Sonipat was arrested in this case. He was also interrogated during a three-day police remand. Police have since frozen an amount of ₹1.37 lakh across two of his bank accounts. The complainant Jagmender, a resident of Sector 12-A alleged that he was defrauded by the accused under the guise of online trading and investment in initial public offerings (IPOs). The fraudsters created a fake Kotak QIB app to facilitate their scheme. Singh alleged that he encountered a fake advertisement on Facebook and was subsequently lured by the fraudsters with fabricated SEBI certificates and highly lucrative offers. After investing a significant sum, he attempted to withdraw his money but was then threatened with penalties and breach of contract. Police have registered a case under sections 316(2), 318(4), 319(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
