Kerala: Indian Navy's first IOS SAGAR returns to Kochi after month-long deployment
Vice Admiral V Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, congratulated the crew of India and nine friendly foreign countries during the grand reception ceremony held at Naval Base, Kochi.

The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, flagged off the IOS Sagar from Karwar on April 5. During the deployment, the ship made port calls at Dar-es-Salaam, Nacala, Port Louis, Port Victoria, and Male. The mission's key highlights included joint naval exercises, professional and cultural exchanges, and joint EEZ surveillance of key IOR nations: Tanzania, Mozambique, Mauritius, and Seychelles.
Strengthening regional maritime cooperation between India and African nations, the ship participated in AIKEYME 2025 alongside INS Chennai & INS Kesari, which was jointly hosted by India and Tanzania from 13 to 18 April 25.
The exercise provided an opportunity for the crew of lOS Sagar to participate in the joint harbour phase and interact with the participating Navies. At Mozambique, a range of collaborative activities and community engagements were held promoting operational synergy and interoperability with the Mozambique Navy.
Reinforcing the enduring bond between India and Mauritius, the crew of IOS Sagar had fruitful engagement with the Mauritius Police Force and undertook coordinated patrol with the Mauritius Coast Guard. Visit to Port Victoria, Seychelles was marked with cross deck visits, training exchange, joint Yoga sessions and maritime engagement with Seychelles Defence Force.
The ship held collaborative maritime security and regional outreach mission at Maldives prior to entering Kochi. This deployment exemplifies Indian Navy's continued engagement with regional Navies and maritime security stakeholders of IOR nations to train together, exchange best practices and enhance interoperability and mutual understanding.
It was a unique experience for the 44 international crew of nine partner nations, Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Tanzania who jointly manned the ship alongside Indian Navy crew, truly signifying the motto of 'One Ocean One Mission'.
The journey of IOS Sagar which commenced with the combined harbour and sea training phase at SNC, Kochi in March 25 has been truly memorable for all the crew members.
The professional and seamless integration of the international crew working together as a well knit and cohesive team truly reflects the spirit of camaraderie and maritime friendship. The mission is a testament to Indian Navy's commitment as the 'First Responder' and 'Preferred Security Partner' in IOR towards the Gol's strategic vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Region). CAQM sets up cell in Mohali for paddy residue management
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has set up a permanent cell in Mohali's SAS Nagar to strengthen year-round monitoring and coordination for effective management of paddy stubble in Punjab and Haryana. Earlier, a temporary Paddy Stubble Management Cell operated in Chandigarh from October 1 to November 30, 2024, during the critical residue burning period. (ANI) In a statement, the CAQM said the new facility at the Kisan Vikas Chamber in Kalkat Bhawan will oversee the preparation of plans, engagement with farmers and other stakeholders and monitoring of the supply chain to ensure continuous and assured use of paddy straw by end-users. 'The cell will now operate round the year right from the start of preparation of plans, engagement with farmers and all other stakeholders related to effective paddy stubble management,' the commission said. Apart from stubble management, the cell will also monitor air pollution aspects in identified thermal power plants and coordinate the co-firing of biomass. It will inspect and track air quality-related issues across all sectors in NCR areas of Haryana, particularly those farther from Delhi. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in coordinating efforts with the state agriculture departments of Punjab and Haryana, field enforcement teams and flying squads, especially during the peak paddy harvesting and stubble burning season. Earlier, a temporary Paddy Stubble Management Cell operated in Chandigarh from October 1 to November 30, 2024, during the critical residue burning period. Recognising that stubble management, particularly ex-situ use of paddy straw, requires continuous effort, the CAQM had urged the Punjab government to provide infrastructure and logistical support for sustained planning and execution.

Jammu & Kashmir: 679 houses completed under PMAY in Bhaderwah
BHADERWAH : The Centre has completed 679 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY ) in Jammu and Kashmir 's Bhaderwah, the Block Development Officer said. The implementation of the PMAY in Jammu and Kashmir 's Bhaderwah mirrors the government's steadfast commitment to ensuring housing for all. In the financial year 2023-24, 718 beneficiaries were identified, and 679 houses have already been completed, marking a significant milestone in rural infrastructure and welfare. Bhaderwah Block Development Officer Yasir Ahmed Wtold ANI, "The completion of 679 houses in a single financial year under PMAY is a testament to our team's dedication and the government's vision of 'Housing for All'. Special focus was given to poor and tribal families who were living in unsafe and unhygienic conditions. Today, many of them have permanent homes with proper facilities, which has significantly improved their standard of living." "We are committed to ensuring 100 per cent saturation of eligible beneficiaries in the coming months," the officer added. Homeless people are getting homes in the hilly terrains of Bhaderwah under the PMAY. This flagship rural housing scheme has dramatically improved the lives of underprivileged families, particularly those from economically weaker sections, by fulfilling their long-held dream of owning a home. For residents like Shahdi Lal, a 66-year-old daily wage labourer from Bhaderwah, the scheme has been life-changing. Shahdi Lal told ANI, "Earlier, I had faced many problems while living in a dilapidated mud wall house with my children and family, particularly during thunderstorms and the rainy season. However, with the government's help, I have now acquired a new house under the PMAY. I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the district administration for providing us with a pucca house." "At my age, it was no longer possible to build a house with my limited income as a labourer. PMAY has provided a lifeline in the form of a resilient home that withstands the severe cold. It has changed the quality of life for my family," he said. As the region continues to benefit from the focused implementation of welfare programs, Bhaderwah stands as an example of how effective governance can bring about lasting, grassroots-level transformation.
