"You get confidence when you bat well": SRH batter Ishan Kishan reflects on his match winning innings against RCB

Hindustan Times23-05-2025
Lucknow [India] May 24 : Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper/batter Ishan Kishan reflected the importance of maintaining momentum when openers perform well, aiming for a high score.
He highlighted the need to adapt and play good shots, drawing confidence from practice. Despite not being fully satisfied with his performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League , he emphasised the value of learning, self-belief, and hard work.
After an impactful fifty from SRH wicketkeeper/batter Ishan Kishan and a vital cameo from Aniket Verma, powered SRH to 231/6 in their 20 overs, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the ongoing IPL, on Friday, at Lucknow.
"When you get to bat first and both openers are looking in good touch, it's your job to keep the momentum going. The moment I saw Abhishek and Head starting the game like that, I just knew it's a very good wicket and we have to go over 200 at least. Your approach changes when wickets are falling, but you try to keep the momentum going. For that, you need to play some good shots. You get that confidence when you bat well in the practice sessions. I was just thinking of playing good shots. One side was very big and there were gaps. Not so happy with the performance overall. We could've done much better overall. I could've done much more for my team. It's a game of learning. These things happen. You just have to keep believing in yourself and keep working hard," Ishan Kishan said in the post-match presentation.
Pat Cummins and Nitish Reddy shine as Hyderabad post a commanding victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 42 runs in the ongoing Indian Premier League , on Friday at Lucknow.
Ishan Kishan was the top scorer of the match, The batter scored 94 runs in just 48 balls, his innings included seven fours and five sixes. He was awarded player of the match for his outstanding batting display.

Yuvraj Singh reveals secrets of Shubman Gill's ‘magic' batting post India captain's 269; ‘He can score more runs'

The secret to Shubman Gill's rich form in England in the ongoing Test series lies in the work the that the Indian captain had done on his top hand, felt former cricketer and Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh. Leading the Indian Test team for the first time in his career, Gill showed no signs of leadership pressure as the right-hander came out with flying colours with 147 (in the first Test in Leeds) and 269 in the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Having scored 650 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gill continued his form in England, with two consecutive hundreds in the longest format of the game. Having started on 114 not out on Day 2, Gill showed tremendous commitment and intent to forge two big partnerships with Ravindra Jadeja (203 runs) and Washington Sundar (144 runs) to set the tone as India posted 587 in the first innings. At a time when Gill was poised to become the first Indian captain with a triple hundred in Tests, a lapse of concentration brought his downfall, thereby missing on a milestone by just 31 runs. 'Gill has worked on his top hand,' Yograj told ANI. 'He has always had an issue regarding his right hand, but I spoke to Yuvi three days ago and he told me, 'Papa, his right-hand issue has improved drastically. He can score more runs. I keep telling him not to get out'. The cover drives he played on the rise, head on top of the ball, he adjusted his right hand. It was perfect. I am told he is batting like magic. Because of the slight changes he is constantly making,' added Yograj, who had a brief international career in the eighties.

Ishan Kishan Takes Off Gloves, Bowls Off-Spin And Leg-Spin For County Team In Same Over

Out-of-sorts Indian wicket-keeper batter, Ishan Kishan, was surprisingly seen bowling for his County side, Nottinghamshire. In the same over, Ishan bowled both off-spin and leg-spin, with some of the deliveries looking extremely ordinary. Ishan, who is a character that likes to enjoy himself, be it while wicket-keeping, batting, or fielding, had a smile on his face while he was bowling. Some of his deliveries, however, also left the commentators struggling to control their laughter. Ishan started the over by bowling off-spin, but later shifted to leg-spin. Ishan Kishan bowling in County Cricket #IshanKishan — Ayush (@AyushCricket32) July 2, 2025 Fair to say that Kishan's off-spin bowling was far more under control than leg-spin. Ishan was roped in by Nottinghamshire as Kyle Verreynne 's replacement while the World Test Championship-winning South African is away playing a two-Test series in Zimbabwe. He will be eligible for selection for the upcoming Championship fixtures against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge and Somerset in Taunton. "I'm feeling very excited to get my first taste of playing county cricket in England, and it will be a great chance to showcase my skills. I want to make sure I am the best cricketer I can be, and playing in English conditions will really help me to learn new skills. "Trent Bridge is such a famous ground that is well-known in India and around the world, and I am really excited that I will be playing there," said Kishan. At present, Ishan isn't in the scheme of things as far as Test cricket is concerned. The wicket-keeper batter hasn't played for India in any format since November 2023.
