Davenport police address accidental shooting that left 4-year-old boy dead
DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) — Davenport Police Chief Steve Parker addressed the deadly shooting over the weekend that left a 4-year-old dead from an accidental gunshot to the head.
On Friday evening, 4-year-old Chosen Morris got ahold of a firearm in his parents' vehicle in their garage and accidentally shot himself. The child died from his injuries on Saturday at Arnold Palmer Hospital For Children.
The police department said the family was preparing to head out for the night when Chosen got into the vehicle, while his father, Robert, ran to the bathroom, and his mother, Quinta, checked their computer in the master bedroom.
His siblings, a 7-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were in the living room playing with their electronics, with earbuds in.
Officials said Quinta heard a 'pop' and ran out to the living room, believing one of her children broke something.
Instead, Quinta discovered the door leading to the garage open and found Chosen in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to his head. Both parents rushed Chosen to AdventHealth Heart of Florida, located only two miles from their home on Citrus Landing Boulevard.
'They are devastated,' Chief Parker said, referring to Morris' parents. 'I can't even imagine what they're going through right now.'
Police said the gun under the driver's seat was a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 caliber handgun. Robert had left the gun in the vehicle on Thursday and had forgotten to remove it, according to the Sheriff.
'We are not seeking any criminal charges,' the chief added, saying the department does not believe there was any negligence from the parents.
The Chief of Police reminded residents to secure firearms and to keep them away from children. The Davenport Police Department also gives away free trigger locks to secure firearms, which can be picked up from the station.
'This is a tragic accident. As a father and grandfather, I can't imagine what Mr. and Mrs. Morris are going through right now,' Chief Parker said. 'Our prayers are certainly with the Morris family as they endure this heartbreaking tragedy.'

911 calls reveal aftermath of Conner Smith crash that killed 77-year-old woman
ConnerSmith's car accident in #Nashville sparked a flurry of 911 calls … and, in one, a caller says the person who was hit was actually sitting up in the street after the crash. #Exclusive story in bio! 🎥: Nashville DEC The 77-year-old pedestrian who was allegedly killed by country singer Conner Smith in Nashville earlier this month may have been alert in the moments after she was struck by his truck, newly released 911 calls indicate. One caller told the emergency hotline on July 8 that the elderly woman was propped up in a 'sitting' position in the street after being struck by a black truck in a 3rd Avenue crosswalk, audio obtained by TMZ indicates. 'Someone's been hit by a truck. I think there's a couple people that have already gotten through to 911, but they have them sitting up in the street now in front of the truck,' the unidentified female caller, said, identifying the vehicle responsible for the accident as a 'black Chevy truck.' 3 Conner Smith allegedly killed a woman in a Nashville car accident. Penske Media via Getty Images At least three other concerned callers alerted 911 before emergency services reached the scene of the accident, but all appeared relatively calm regarding the collision. One caller told 911 they weren't sticking around until EMS arrived because there were 'a lot of people and a couple of nurses' with the victim, who was later identified as Dorothy Dobbins. Whether Dobbins was sitting up on her own accord or with the help of bystanders is unclear, but the 77-year-old woman later died at a local hospital from her injuries. Smith, 24, who rose to fame for his 2022 hit 'I Hate Alabama,' stayed at the scene of the accident, according to police. 3 Smith had failed to yield to Dorothy Dobbins, 77, on the marked crosswalk, cops said. WSMV Cops alleged that the singer failed to yield to Dobbins on the marked crosswalk, but showed no signs of impairment or that he was using his cellphone. No charges have been filed in the case. 'On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life. His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation,' his attorney, Worrick G. Robinson, told TMZ. The 'Orange and White' singer has since pulled out of two festivals he was scheduled to perform at. 3 Smith had performed in the Tennessee city the same day as the accident. Getty Images Smith had shared an Instagram post on the day of the fatal incident, which featured photos of him singing onstage while wearing a 'Nashville' T-shirt. 'Hometown hits different ❤️,' he captioned the photos.

Atlanta NBA, WNBA reporter Tabitha Turner allegedly pepper-sprayed, assaulted by Uber driver on side of highway
An Atlanta-based NBA and WNBA reporter claims she was pepper-sprayed and physically assaulted by an Uber driver during a violent altercation on the side of the highway, and is now facing online threats because of the incident. Tabitha Turner, the team reporter for the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream, was picked up from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Saturday by driver Nicole Smith. 'I just wanted to go home from work and see my daughter. I've got threats,' Turner told reporters Wednesday at a press conference. 'I didn't ask for this.' 5 Tabitha Turner speaks to reporters after her alleged assault on June 25, 2025. Tabitha Turner/Instagram Turner says she had ordered an Uber Comfort, which allows passengers to choose the type of experience for their drive, including the desired interior temperature. Turner and her attorney claim she had selected to have a 'cool' ride with the windows up and air conditioning on. 'One thing that she noticed when her Uber pulled up, right off the rip, was that this clearly wasn't a comfort vehicle,' Turner's lawyer, Miguel Dominquez, told reporters. 'She was a little thrown off giving what she inputted into the app, that there was no air conditioning on and the windows were down and we've got 90-degree plus weather out there,' he added. As Smith drove northbound on I-85, Turner asked the driver to roll the windows up and turn on the A/C to match what she requested, Dominquez said. Smith allegedly got upset by the request and pulled over into the emergency lane of the highway and told Turner to get out of her car, Fox 5 Atlanta reported, citing police. 5 Turner recorded herself in the backseat of the car as she talked with Nicole Smith. Tabitha Turner/Instagram The driver's excuse for not closing the windows was that she liked to leave the windows down in case passengers are sick, Turner told reporters. The quick-thinking reporter pulled out her phone and began recording the roadside interaction with Smith, telling the irritated driver she wouldn't get out of the car unless Smith refunded the fare or police were called. Smith turned around and pepper-sprayed her passenger in the face, according to video captured by Turner and obtained by the outlet. The agitated chauffeur got out of the car, rushed to the rear passenger-side door and yanked Turner out of the car before 'physically assaulting her.' 5 Uber driver Nicole Smith sitting in the driver's seat during the incident on I-85 on June 21, 2025. Tabitha Turner/Instagram A passerby had pulled over and began recording the altercation, later providing video evidence to the police. Investigators, using both Turner's and the witness's footage, determined Smith was the aggressor. An arrest warrant was issued for Smith. She faces charges of battery and simple battery. 'To pull over on the expressway suddenly, in the emergency lane with vehicles flying by, and to decide you're going to tell the passenger, 'You need to get out with your bags on the side of the expressway,' is not a reasonable request by any stretch of the imagination,' Dominquez said. 'It was unsafe for her to do so, and it was completely unreasonable,' he added. 5 Smith points pepper-spray at Turner during the roadside altercation. Tabitha Turner/Instagram Smith took to social media to tell her side of the altercation, claiming her actions were done in self-defense because Turner allegedly had a gun, the driver said in a video viewed over a million times, according to AtlantaNewsFirst. Turner asserts Smith began harassing her on social media after the altercation, claiming the reporter was at fault for the highway beatdown. 'I've received threats via social media about my karma that's coming to me,' Turner said, fighting back tears. 'Defaming my character, calling me all kinds of names. Saying things about why I attacked her and just how horrible of a person I am.' 5 Turner captured the moment she was struck by the pepper-spray. Tabitha Turner/Instagram Turner, who welcomed her first child with her husband back in May 2024, says some of the insults attacked her as a mother, as the online bullies even reached out to her coworkers. 'I have a 1-year-old daughter that I like to take to the games with me and I can't take her because I don't know who's going to be there to attack me,' Turner said. The reporter thanked the WNBA's Dream for providing additional security for her. Dominquez says it was an isolated event, but believes he might find a pattern when he starts looking into the process on how Uber drivers are selected. 'What we may find is that there is a pattern here of charging customers an elevated amount for a particular type of ride, and actually not being able to fulfill that ride that's being purchased,' Dominquez said. The Post has reached out to Uber for comment.

German prosecutor seeks arrest on terror charges of a Syrian man who allegedly stabbed 4
BERLIN -- Germany's top prosecutor on Wednesday submitted a new arrest warrant based on terrorism allegations for a Syrian man who stabbed and critically injured four men outside a restaurant in the western city of Bielefeld last month. The federal prosecutor's office said in a statement that the accused, who has only been identified as Mahmoud M. in line with German privacy rules, 'is urgently suspected of membership of a foreign terrorist organization, attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm.' Last month, the defendant attacked several people with a knife outside a restaurant in downtown Bielefeld in the early morning. Four men were seriously injured. Prosecutors allege that the suspect follows an Islamist-jihadist ideology. He joined the Islamic State group in Syria in December 2014 at the latest in the city of Raqqa in Syria, they said. After entering Germany, prosecutors said the accused decided to kill as many randomly selected people in Germany as possible. He did so 'in the name of a global 'holy war' and on behalf of Islamic State,' they added. 'To this end, in the early morning of May 18, 2025, he stabbed guests with knives in front of a restaurant in Bielefeld, critically injuring four people,' the prosecutors said. The newly submitted arrest warrant replaces an arrest warrant issued by a Bielefeld local court on May 20, which had been obtained by the Bielefeld public prosecutor's office. M. was arrested on May 19, and has been in custody since then. On May 20, the federal prosecutor's office had taken over the investigation.
