Trump calls Epstein file scrutiny a "con job", blames Democrats

US President Donald Trump has termed as "con job" the controversy surrounding his administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and sharply criticised Democrats over what he called a politically motivated distraction, The Hill reported. "The Radical Left Democrats are doing everything in their power to distract and obfuscate from our GREAT six months of service to America, results of which many are saying is the BEST six months in Presidential history," Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added, "They have gone absolutely CRAZY, and are playing another Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax but, this time, under the guise of what we will call the Jeffrey Epstein SCAM." As per The Hill, the president had recently instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to seek the release of grand jury testimonies from Epstein and his alleged accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. The decision followed mounting pressure for transparency from both Democrats and conservatives, including members of Trump's own MAGA base. However, on Wednesday, US District Judge Robin Rosenberg declined the Department of Justice's request, saying, "The Court's hands are tied." Live Events Trump, responding to the legal setback, questioned why Democrats did not unseal the documents during former President Biden's tenure, when they held a Senate majority. According to The Hill, a newly released Trump administration memo concluded that Epstein did not maintain a "client list" and reaffirmed that the financier's 2019 death in jail remains officially ruled a suicide -- findings that have only intensified calls for clarity from the Department of Justice. A recent Emerson College Polling survey cited by The Hill showed that over 50 percent of voters disapprove of the administration's handling of the Epstein probe. A separate Fox News poll found that 60 percent of GOP voters believe the government is not being transparent about the case files. The fallout has led to divisions within the Republican Party. As The Hill reported, House Speaker Mike Johnson told CBS News that the case is "not a hoax," a marked departure from Trump's "witch hunt" framing. Rep. Thomas Massie, a frequent critic of Trump, announced plans to introduce a bipartisan resolution -- co-sponsored by Democrat Ro Khanna -- to compel the administration to release all Epstein-related documents. Meanwhile, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Ghislaine Maxwell on Thursday and is expected to continue questioning her Friday. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer also issued a subpoena for Maxwell, with plans to depose her on August 11, The Hill said.

$100 million missing? Trump calls FireAid 'another Democrat inspired scam'; California wildfire charity funds never reach direct victims

US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on California's wildfire relief efforts, branding the high-profile FireAid benefit concert a 'total disaster' and accusing Democrats of planning and running a scam. ''FIREAID' IS A TOTAL DISASTER. LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER DEMOCRAT INSPIRED SCAM. 100 MILLION DOLLARS IS MISSING. WAS SUPPOSED TO TO GO TO THE LOS ANGELES FIRE VICTIMS, FIRES THAT, WITH PROPER MANAGEMENT, WOULD NEVER HAVE EVEN HAPPENED,' Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He also blamed Democrat California governor Gavin Newsom for refusing to release vital water reserves during the crisis. 'GOVERNOR NEWSCUM REFUSED TO RELEASE BILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT WOULD HAVE MADE! I HAVE SINCE OVERRULED HIM, AND IT IS NOW RELEASED. All FEDERAL HOUSING PERMITS HAVE ALSO BEEN APPROVED, THE CITY IS YEARS LATE. GET THE FIRE VICTIMS THEIR APPROVALS TO REBUILD, AND DO IT NOW!' Trump's remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the distribution of funds raised during the FireAid concert, which was staged across two major venues: SoFi Stadium and the Forum, in January. The event, organised by Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and featuring major artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, brought in $100 million after Ballmer and his wife Connie matched all public donations, as per CBS news. Although many organisations praised the swift distribution of FireAid benefit funds, concerns began circulating online and on social media alleging that the donations were not reaching wildfire victims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pirates Climb Aboard Cargo Ship - Watch What The Captain Did Next Tips and Tricks Undo In response to these claims, Representative Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) penned a letter urging the Department of Justice to investigate the matter. However, several recipient organisations have publicly defended FireAid, citing rapid distribution and tangible impact. 'We received $250,000,' said Kevin McManus, spokesperson for Pasadena Humane Society. 'We were able to save a lot of animals' lives in part because of that donation.' Michael Flood, CEO of the LA Regional Food Bank, said FireAid came at a crucial time when demand for food assistance surged by 30% due to the devastation caused by wildfires in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena. 'It was especially high in January through March as so many people were displaced and lost power and water,' Flood told Los Angeles Times. 'People had to move in with family and friends around the county. We did a food bank in Inglewood in February and we saw just how many had been displaced by both fires.' On the other hand, many individuals said that they received no funds from the event. "I have not seen any benefit from the FireAid money, and I am very involved here and neither have my neighbors," said David Howard, who lost two homes in Pacific Palisades told Fox news. According to the FireAid website, the concert raised an estimated $100 million intended for 'direct relief.' During the event, host and actor Miles Teller assured viewers that 'all the money raised will go directly to people who need it now and long-term efforts to build it back.' However, last week, the charity said that it was not possible to make direct payments. "FireAid does not have the capability to make direct payments to individuals and that was never the plan. We partnered directly with trusted local reach communities in need," the fox news reported. Despite praise from aid groups, these accusations have reignited political debate over the state's handling of wildfire relief, emergency management, and the transparency of charity fund allocation.

'No objection': Pakistan FM Ishaq Dar plays down question on US move to list TRF as terror group; had earlier said 'TRF not illegal, show proof'

ಇಶಾಕ್‌ ದಾರ್‌ (ಸಂಗ್ರಹ ಚಿತ್ರ) Pakistan's deputy prime minister Ishaq Dar has expressed support for the United States' decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF) as a terrorist organisation, marking a significant shift from his previous position. Speaking at an event in Washington DC, Dar stated that Pakistan has "no objection" to the US designation, however, said that linking TRF with Lashkar-e-Taiba is "wrong." 'It is obviously a sovereign decision of the United States to designate the TRF. We have no issue. And we welcome, if they have any evidence, that they are involved,' Dar said. 'Linking the TRF to the Lashkar-e-Taiba is wrong. That outfit was dismantled years ago by Pakistan. The actors were prosecuted, arrested and jailed, and the entire outfit was destroyed,' he added. However, this statement stands in stark contrast to his earlier position in Pakistan's Parliament. Earlier, As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Dar had declared that Pakistan blocked the mention of TRF in the UNSC's condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives. "We opposed the mention of TRF in the UNSC statement. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The boy meets a dog on the street - no one expected what happened next. Show us proof they carried out the Pahalgam attack. Show ownership by TRF. We won't accept the allegation, and TRF had to be deleted from the UN press release." Earlier in July, US designated TRF a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). Highlighting the TRF's involvement in multiple attacks against India, including the deadly Pahalgam attack, the state department said the decision reflected the Trump administration's "commitment to protecting US national security, countering terrorism, and enforcing President Trump's call for justice following the Pahalgam attack". "TRF and other associated aliases have been added to LeT's designation as a FTO and SDGT pursuant to section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and Executive Order 13224, respectively. The Department of State has also reviewed and maintained the FTO designation of LeT. Amendments to FTO designations go into effect upon publication in the Federal Register," the statement read. The Resistance Front was formed in 2019 as a proxy of Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and was banned by the central government in 2023. It has been actively involved in recruiting youth online, facilitating the infiltration of terrorists, and smuggling weapons and narcotics from Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir. TRF had also claimed responsibility for several attacks targeting civilians, political leaders, and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Its founder and commander, Sheikh Sajjad Gul, has been designated a terrorist under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
