Bangladesh keeps series alive with 83-run win against Sri Lanka in 2nd T20

DAMBULLA, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka was skittled for 94 in 15.2 overs as Bangladesh won the second Twenty20 by 83 runs to level the three-match series at 1-1 on Sunday.
It was Bangladesh's second biggest T20 victory by runs.
Bangladesh captain Litton Das scored a 50-ball 76, his first T20 half century after 13 games. He helped to lead Bangladesh to 177-7 in 20 overs after Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl.
In-form batter Kusal Mendis was run out in the second over of Sri Lanka's reply and the hosts slipped to 30-4 inside the powerplay against fast bowler Shoriful Islam (2-12), one of the three changes Bangladesh made after losing the opening game.
Opening batter Pathum Nissanka (32) and Dasun Shanaka (20) were the only batters to cross the double-figure mark before Sri Lanka was bowled out with more than four overs to spare.
All five Bangladesh bowlers were among the wickets. Legspinner Rishad Hossain (3-18) finished off the match by having No. 10 batter Binura Fernando stumped.
Nissanka was also stumped by Das off Hossain which ended the 41-ball partnership for the fifth wicket, and in the same 11th over Hossain caught and bowled Chamika Karunaratne (0) to leave Sri Lanka on 71-6.
Shanaka holed out at deep mid-wicket in the 12th over against off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz before Bangladesh wrapped up the tailenders quickly.
Das followed his half century with two stumpings and two catches.
Sri Lanka won the T20 opener by seven wickets with an over to spare on Thursday.
The final T20 match is on Wednesday at Colombo.
Sri Lanka won a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh 2-1 as well as a two-match test series 1-0.

Caitlin Clark pulls out of All-Star weekend because of groin injury

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Caitlin Clark is out of All-Star weekend. The Indiana Fever guard injured her right groin on Tuesday night in the final minute of the team's win over the Connecticut Sun. She said Thursday in a message posted on X that she had to rest her body. 'I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can't participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game,' Clark said in the message posted by the Fever. 'I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I'm looking forward to helping (Liberty coach Sandy Brondello) coach our team to a win.' Clark was supposed to compete in a loaded 3-point contest Friday night and is captain of one of the All-Star teams. The second-year guard was the leading vote getter from the fans and has been a huge reason the league has had a boon in attendance and ratings over the last two seasons. Clark sat out the team's 98-77 loss against New York. Fever coach Stephanie White said Clark had imaging done Wednesday afternoon and deferred to the team's training staff for more details except to say that she considered it good news. Clark got hurt with under a minute left. She walked downcourt holding her right groin after assisting on the Fever's final basket. As teammate Aliyah Boston tried to console her, Clark walked to the basket stanchion and banged her head against it before heading to the bench. During the timeout, she covered her head with a towel and appeared to be holding back tears. Clark had been durable throughout college and her first season in the WNBA, never missing a game. Now she's had four different muscle injuries so far this year. She missed the preseason opener with tightness in her quad but played the next day in an exhibition game at her alma mater, Iowa. She suffered a quad strain against New York on May 24 that kept her out for five games. Clark returned June 14 and played in five games before suffering another injury to her left groin that kept her out for four contests and the Commissioner's Cup final. ___

Myles Garrett voted the NFL's No. 1 edge rusher by the AP

Myles Garrett is a four-time All-Pro, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the only player to register 14 sacks in four straight seasons. His dominant stretch earned him the No. 1 edge rusher spot Thursday in a preseason survey by The Associated Press. A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at the position, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2 and 1 points. Garrett received five first-place votes, two seconds and one third. Trey Hendrickson got two first-place votes and Micah Parsons received the other. T.J. Watt finished second overall, one point ahead of Parsons. Hendrickson came in fourth and Nick Bosa finished fifth. Nik Bonitto, Aidan Hutchinson, Kyle Van Noy and Maxx Crosby also received votes. 1. MYLES GARRETT, Cleveland Browns Garrett has been a dominant presence for Cleveland's defense over his first eight seasons. He became the youngest player in NFL history to reach 100 sacks last season when he finished with 14. Garrett finished third in voting for Defensive Player of the Year, earned his fourth All-Pro spot and sixth Pro Bowl trip. The Browns made him the highest-paid edge rusher in NFL history, giving him a $160 million, four-year deal. 2. T.J. WATT, Pittsburgh Steelers Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was named to his seventh Pro Bowl after registering 11 1/2 sacks, a league-leading six forced fumbles, 27 quarterback hits and 19 tackles for loss. He was a second-team All-Pro after making first team four times. Watt received four second-place votes, three thirds and one fifth. 3. MICAH PARSONS, Dallas Cowboys Despite missing four games, Parsons had 12 sacks in 13 games and earned his fourth straight Pro Bowl trip. The two-time All-Pro has been one of the most dynamic pass rushers in the NFL since the Cowboys selected him 12th overall in 2021. Parsons has at least 12 sacks in each season. He's due to get a new contract that will likely surpass Garrett's. Parsons received two second-place votes, one third and three fourths to go with the one first. 4. TREY HENDRICKSON, Cincinnati Bengals Hendrickson led the NFL with 17 1/2 sacks last season after registering 17 1/2 in 2023. He was a first-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl for the fourth straight year. Hendrickson has sought a new contract from the Bengals throughout the offseason. 5. NICK BOSA, San Francisco 49ers Bosa had nine sacks in 14 games last season, earning his fifth Pro Bowl appearance. The 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has 53 1/2 sacks over the past four seasons. He received one third-place vote, one fourth and two fifths. ___
