Entrepreneur UK's London 100: Tewke
Tewke is reimagining the most familiar device in the home - the light switch. The startup builds intelligent hardware and software that makes any room smart and responsive.
The idea came after moving into a dream home with a high-end automation system, Piers Daniell was struck by how clunky and inaccessible it was. When his in-laws couldn't even turn on the lights, it became clear that smart homes often aren't user-friendly.
Worse, the "advanced" tech burned through over £1,200 in monthly energy bills. A few simple changes cut costs in half, revealing that smarter - not more complex - solutions were the answer.
Tewke's first product, Tap, replaces the traditional light switch with a sleek, AI-powered interface that learns how each room is used. It helps reduce energy use by up to 30% and can cut bills by 50%, all without compromising on design or usability.
Tewke deserves a spot for creating bold, stylish tech in the UK that tackles a global problem with a local, design-driven approach.

Acerinox, shielded by tariffs, eyes price hikes for US business
By Javi West Larrañaga (Reuters) -Steelmaker Acerinox, whose U.S. business is a big beneficiary of President Donald Trump's tariffs, is looking into raising some prices in the market, though no notable changes are expected before late September, its management said on Thursday. "In the United States, we are trying to increase our prices, which is not easy under the current circumstances," CEO Bernardo Velazquez told analysts in a post-earnings call. There will be no "relevant" hikes in the third quarter, as price adjustments are typically not made during the summer season, Chief Corporate Officer Miguel Ferrandis added. "At the end of September, we shall see," he said, noting the decisions also depended on factors such as market visibility, a potential EU-U.S. trade deal and clarity on Russia's war in Ukraine. As the largest producer of stainless steel in the U.S., Acerinox benefits from Trump's protectionist policies and 50% tariffs on imported steel. Demand for stainless steel is subdued in both Europe and the United States, but tariffs on competitors mean Acerinox can keep U.S. prices stable, Velazquez told analysts. Meanwhile in Europe, the economic turmoil has dragged steel prices, driving a big miss in Acerinox's second-quarter results. "We have a lot of pressure in the market, low demand, high inventories, so prices are going down," Velazquez said. Imports have grown close to 75% in Europe this year, he said, adding that the European Union needed to take the necessary measures to protect the market from Asian imports, like the U.S. had done. U.S. hot-rolled coil steel futures have gained 24% so far this year to $876 a short ton ($965.60 per metric ton), while European prices have fallen 4% to 531 euros ($623.93) per metric ton. (NYSE:GLOB) is a global technology services company that helps businesses transform digitally by creating software solutions, leveraging AI, and providing cloud-based services. Its customers primarily include large companies across North America, Latin America, and Europe. Shares detracted from performance during the quarter after the company reported weaker-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results, as revenue growth missed analyst estimates. The revenue shortfall was mainly due to clients delaying discretionary IT and digital transformation projects amid macroeconomic uncertainty, particularly within its North American segment. Management highlighted that the slowdown in non essential corporate spending—especially on projects unrelated to core operations or required digital upgrades—was the primary factor impacting new bookings and revenue growth."
