Usman Khawaja snubs broadcasters after firing of pro-Palestine reporter: Reports
Sources close to the team confirmed that Khawaja's refusal stemmed from SEN's controversial sacking of Peter Lalor earlier this year. The veteran cricket writer had been pulled from the broadcaster's coverage midway through Australia's tour of Sri Lanka in February, shortly after sharing posts on social media that expressed solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.Lalor's social media activity included reposts about Israeli airstrikes and the release of Palestinian prisoners — content that reportedly led SEN to part ways with him. The decision sparked criticism within journalism and cricket circles, especially amongst those advocating for press freedom and human rights.advertisementKhawaja, who has publicly supported Palestinian civilians and spoken against the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, has previously faced restrictions from cricket's governing bodies. Late last year, the ICC barred him from wearing peace messages on his playing gear, citing their political nature — a ruling Khawaja respectfully disagreed with. This is the first time Khawaja has come face-to-face with SEN's broadcast team since Lalor's dismissal, and his quiet refusal spoke volumes.- Ends

More from Sports Lando Norris, in the other McLaren, was third after retaking the place from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and catching up to Piastri. 'You're keeping faster cars behind, so you have to drive over the limit of what you think is possible,' Verstappen said. 'Tire management is out of the window, so that's what's making it really difficult. I'm just doing 15 qualifying laps to try and keep them behind on a track where tire management is important.' It was Verstappen's first race win of any sort since the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in May, and his first in a sprint since the United States Grand Prix last October. Piastri extends his lead over Norris in the standings to nine points from eight. Verstappen is third, 68 points off the lead. Leclerc held on to fourth and it was an impressive result for Haas, with Esteban Ocon fifth and Oliver Bearman seventh. ‘Same man, same conclusion': Australian state MP found guilty of raping, sexually assaulting 2 men 2 years apart
An Australian state MP has been found guilty of raping a man and sexually assaulting another in separate incidents that happened two years apart. Gareth Ward, 44, the independent MP for Kiama in New South Wales, was convicted by a jury on Friday at the Downing Centre District Court. He was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault against an 18-year-old man in 2013 and one count of sexual intercourse without consent involving a 24-year-old man in 2015. Prosecutors said the two men did not know each other but gave very similar accounts of what happened. 'Similar behaviour, similar setting, same man, same conclusion. This is not a coincidence,' Crown prosecutor Monika Knowles told the jury, The Independent reported. Ward denied all charges. He claimed the 2015 incident did not happen and said the 2013 incident was being misremembered by the complainant. The defence argued the allegations were false. Earlier, the court heard that in 2013, Ward invited the teenager, who had been drinking, to his South Coast home and assaulted him three times despite his efforts to resist. In 2015, Ward raped a staff member who was intoxicated after an event at the NSW Parliament House. Ward has been granted bail and is living at one of his two homes. A court will consider whether to detain him next Wednesday, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported. He first entered the state parliament as a Liberal MP in 2011 and was made a minister after the 2019 election. He left the Liberal Party in 2021 after revealing that he was being investigated by police. He continued as an independent and was re-elected in 2023. Mark Speakman, leader of the opposition in the NSW parliament, said he respected the jury's decision. 'What any victim of sexual abuse endures is appalling and their strength in coming forward can't be overstated,' he said, as quoted by The Independent. 'There is no excuse for the criminal behaviour which the jury has found occurred beyond reasonable doubt — a complete abuse of power which has no place anywhere, let alone by those entrusted by the public to represent them.'

The Air Force said that among the targets attacked in the strikes, terrorist squads, combat tunnels, military buildings, anti-tank firing positions, and weapons storage facilities were struck. Meanwhile, a day after withdrawing their delegations from talks, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump appeared on Friday to abandon Gaza ceasefire negotiations with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Netanyahu said Israel was now considering 'alternative" options to achieve its goals of bringing its hostages home from Gaza and ending the rule of Hamas in the territory. Trump said Hamas did not want to make a deal, and he believed the group's leaders would now be 'hunted down".
