'The inspiration came from reaching a diverse sort of demographic,' said Ziyah Karmali, manager of media relations and storytelling at Explore Edmonton. 'We wanted to give Edmonton foodies and tourist foodies a reason to come experience the festival. We all know that food is a big draw.'

Among them is the Ice Cream Nachos, which combine soft serve ice cream with Oreo crumbs, skor bits, brownie chunks, and sweet sauces, served with kettle corn chips for scooping.

'I think the Ice Cream Nachos are going to be a great hit, because everybody loves nachos, and everybody loves ice cream,' Karmali said. 'It's a good way to cool off on a hot summer day, kind of a salty-sweet mix, which is always something fun.'

Then there's the Pickle Mini Donuts, made by Tin Lizzy Old Fashioned Hot Dog Ltd., offering a sweet-and-sour twist on a midway classic.

Pickle flavour appears prominently across the grounds this year, including Pickle Pizza and Deep-Fried Pickled Cheese Curds.

The curds are the latest twist from Phillip Davis, founder of Davis Concessions. He said his team spent the entire winter developing and testing this year's lineup, which also includes Berry Fried Pop Tarts and Spicy Pickle Fries. Davis said the fried pop tarts are a throwback to childhood, while the fries build on their original pickle version with a fiery upgrade for spice lovers.

'Our inspiration is always to create fresh, original, and great-tasting items for the whole family to enjoy,' Davis said.

Thousands of dollars of music equipment stolen from northern band while in Edmonton

(Credit: Soul Smash) A theft has derailed the recent success of an Alberta band, but the trio is determined to regain their momentum. Soul Smash, a Fort Vermilion-based mostly rock cover band consisting of two brothers and their friend, was in Edmonton on the weekend to perform at Rendezvous Pub and spent Monday night at a friend's place near Southgate Centre. Lead singer Kinley Paul was the one to realize their van in the driveway had been broken into on Tuesday. 'It was one of the worst feelings ever, to be honest. It was quite heartbreaking and shocking and devastating and a lot to process,' Paul told CTV News Edmonton during an interview on Wednesday. One of the band's main recording and performing guitars, the main bass and audio mixer were among the items stolen. 'There was some groaning and some tears,' Paul said. 'We do carry around a lot of valuables in our vans, so I guess that is kind of on us. But when you're in a driveway in what seems to be a safe place, you don't always expect that.' The stolen equipment is worth around $6,000, according to Paul – a 'substantial' hit for a group that sometimes only pockets $150 from a gig after travel expenses. '(This is) stuff that we saved up for for a long time, made payments on, and had in our families for a long time,' he said. 'It's kind of part of the whole investing in ourselves until we start to make it.' The theft also happened at a time when the band was starting to feel more established with semi-regular gigs in Edmonton, a busy summer season, and the June release of a four-song EP. In the meantime, Soul Smash has pulled back-up equipment onto the stage and is renting an audio mixer. The band is also considering putting on a fundraising concert in September to help recover some of the cost. 'We have a lot of fun doing what we do. I mean, it's not always easy, but it certainly should have been a lot easier than this,' Paul said. 'It's been an emotional roller coaster, but I am starting to feel better about it now. Like it could be just a bump in the road – and definitely not the end of the band.' CTV News Edmonton has asked Edmonton Police Service for an update on the investigation.

‘Minister?': Contestants stumped by ‘Jeopardy!' clue referencing B.C., Manitoba mayors

A clue is seen in a screenshot from the July 8, 2025 episode of "Jeopardy!" (NBC) A clue referencing two Canadian mayors left all three 'Jeopardy!' contestants stumped during Tuesday's episode. The clue came up during the first round, under the 'That's Honorific!' category. 'In Canada, his or her worship is for people with this government job, like Scott Gillingham of Winnipeg and Surrey, B.C.'s Brenda Locke,' read host Ken Jennings. Contestant Scott Riccardi – now on a three-game streak after winning Tuesday's episode – rang in first, answering incorrectly, 'What is MP?' Dan Puma guessed next, answering 'What is minister?' 'No, that's not right either,' Jennings replied. 'Those are the respective mayors of Winnipeg and Surrey.' 🎥 It's not every day that you see your name on #Jeopardy! I never would've imagined I would be featured in a clue. Pretty cool! @Jeopardy — Office of the Mayor (@SurreyMayor) July 9, 2025 According to the Canadian government's website on honorific titles, mayors are the only elected officials referred to as 'your worship' – and only outside Quebec, which does not use the French equivalent. The site also notes that 'some municipalities might choose to omit the title.' Locke shared a clip of Tuesday's episode on social media, calling the shout out 'pretty cool!' 'I never would've imagined I would be featured in a clue,' she wrote.
