Where Florida ranks in USA TODAY Sports' SEC college football power rankings
While the media days schedule continues to unfurl, USA TODAY Sports reporter Paul Myerberg took a moment to rank the Southeastern Conference from top to bottom for the upcoming campaign. In his list, he placed the Florida Gators among the top teams in the league at No. 5 overall — just behind the LSU Tigers and ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners.
"Bringing back Billy Napier may end up working out for the Gators," Myerberg begins.
"The decision not to make a move after a slow start in 2024 sparked a strong finish and developed some significant momentum heading into a promising season. No one embodies that promise more than sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway, who will have his development lifted by an upgraded receiver room."
Here's how he projects the 16 SEC schools from top to bottom, from the Texas Longhorns to the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Another Big Ten football media days is in the books, and now we can focus our attention towards the start of fall camp and the buildup to the start of the 2025 college football season. Ohio State and Penn State are expected to be the best teams this year according to most of the media, but that's not what Jake Butt from the Big Ten Network thinks. In a segment on social media, Butt provided his picks for teams that will play in Indianapolis, and he omitted Ohio State, picking Penn State to tussle with Oregon instead. It's all opinion, of course, and it's not like the Ducks aren't a program to reckon with almost annually now, so there's that. But Butt not identifying his alma mater, Michigan or the Buckeyes, is an interesting take, especially considering Oregon lost as much talent as OSU. But never fear Ohio State fans, Butt did mention Ohio State as one of the teams that will contend for a College Football Playoff spot -- so there's at least that. Ohio State defending its title and having a shot at a conference crown will largely depend on the production it gets at the quarterback spot and how well the defense plugs some of those gaps lost to the NFL. It won't take long to see how those questions are answered because the Buckeyes open up against Texas in Week 1. Let the countdown continue. Steelers HC Mike Tomlin reveals his most anticipated training camp matchup
With the first week of Steelers training camp in the books, HC Mike Tomlin is excited for what lies ahead — particularly one matchup between an accomplished pass-catching running back and a great second-year linebacker. Following Sunday's practices at training camp, Tomlin shared which matchup he's looking forward to the most next week when pads come on — and it's the meeting of RB Kenneth Gainwell and LB Payton Wilson. "I like Kenny G versus Payton Wilson in routes," Tomlin told reporters. "Kenny G has shown a really good aptitude, from a route-running standpoint out of the backfield. Payton Wilson, in his second year, is a guy that's working to be dominant in that area. It's just one of those matchups that has my attention." Nick Saban shares humorous response to coaching return rumor
For the first time since the rumor was shared during SEC media days, former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has publicly commented on his potential interest in returning to coaching. In a recent television appearance on Fox News' Fox and Friends, Saban was asked in an interview the question as to if he would ever return to the sidelines again. Saban, in response, appeared to shut down speculation on a potential return, while also giving a humorous answer. "I never really ever had a thought about getting back into coaching, until two days ago Mrs. Terry said I had to run the sweeper in the entire downstairs," Saban said. "While running the sweeper, the thought occurred to me," When you were coaching, you had a heck of a lot better job than this. That is only time I considered it." "There is no opportunity that I know of right now, that would enhance me to go back to coaching." Saban also later added. Saban, who announced his retirement back in Jan. 2024, was the head coach at Alabama for 17 seasons from 2007-23, winning six national championships during that span. As the head coach at Alabama, Saban also compiled a 206-29 overall record, recorded 16 10-win seasons, and won nine SEC championships. Since announcing his retirement, Saban has remained around college football, most notably through his role on ESPN's weekly show "College GameDay." As to if Saban would ever return, the answer certainly appears unlikely in the near future.
