Jeannie Seely, Grammy-winning country music legend, died at 85 in Hermitage, Tennessee. Known for hits like "Don't Touch Me," she performed 5,397 times at the Grand Ole Opry.
Jeannie Seely, the Grammy-winning country music legend revered as Miss Country Soul, died on Friday in Hermitage, Tennessee, at the age of 85. Her death was confirmed by her publicist, who said she passed away at 5 p.m. CT due to complications from an intestinal infection at Summit Medical Center. Despite facing recent health struggles, including multiple abdominal and back surgeries, Seely continued performing well into 2024.
Born in Pennsylvania, Seely made her way to Nashville in 1965 with only $50 to her name. After working briefly in Los Angeles as a bank employee and secretary at Liberty/Imperial Records, she relocated to pursue her musical ambitions. Her big break came with the 1966 hit 'Don't Touch Me," which climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard country chart and earned her a Grammy for Best Country & Western Recording. Over the next decade, Seely delivered a string of hits including 'I'll Love You (More Than You Need)," 'Can I Sleep in Your Arms," and her chart-topping duet with Jack Greene, 'Wish I Didn't Have to Miss You."
Seely was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1967 and remained a fixture on the iconic stage for over five decades. Her final performance came on February 22, 2024, marking her 5,397th appearance, the most by any performer in Opry history. Variety once described her as proof 'that it's possible to get hipper as you get older."
Fellow country stars paid tribute to her enduring influence. Dolly Parton remembered, 'She was one of my dearest friends… I think she was one of the greater singers in Nashville and she had a wonderful sense of humor." Country singer Sunny Sweeney shared an emotional reflection, writing, 'I was sitting in her [Opry] dressing room when she passed… I promise to carry your torch with pride forever."
In recent years, Seely remained relevant to new generations of fans as host of a weekly SiriusXM show on Willie's Roadhouse. Her final album, An American Classic, released in 2020, featured collaborations with Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, and Lorrie Morgan.

Anup Jalota Denies Any Romantic Relationship With Jasleen Matharu: ‘I Was Shocked But…'
Anup Jalota denied any romantic involvement with Jasleen Matharu, stating she lied about their relationship on Bigg Boss 12. He clarified they were guru and shishya. Anup Jalota entered Bigg Boss 12 with singer Jasleen Matharu, and their alleged relationship created quite a stir; every headline carried their names. But what was the reality behind their equation? Jalota, in a recent conversation, slammed claims of a romantic relationship and said he was never romantically involved with Jasleen, adding that she lied on stage in front of Salman Khan. In a conversation with Lallantop, Anup was questioned about his participation with Jasleen and the reality of their relationship, to which he shared, 'She once told me that she received an offer to participate in Bigg Boss. I said, that's great, you will earn fame. She used to dance in groups and sing at that time." 'But there was a condition that you could only come as a weird pair that season. I asked her to take Sukhwinder ji, but she told me he had declined. Even I said no, I won't go. I didn't have time, there were so many concerts. Her father came and convinced me. I said yes, but only on one condition—that we would go as guru and shishya. She agreed," Anup Jalota added. While further slamming Jasleen for lying on stage in front of Salman Khan, the bhajan singer stated, 'I entered the stage and met Salman Khan. Then, Jasleen was welcomed as my partner. When Salman asked if she was my shishya, she said that she had been in a relationship with me for three years. I thought, 'Yeh kya ho gaya?' We never even knew each other that well." 'I was shocked, but I thought this might be part of the game, kisi ne toh use yeh padhaaya hoga bolne ke liye. When we were going inside, I asked her about it. Main samajh gaya tha isse kuch game banta hai, ya toh Bigg Boss waalon ne bola hoga, usse ek afwaah uthti hai. I never confronted her. Main samajh gaya tha ki peeche koi khel hua hai, shayad uska use koi fayda hi hoga, and she benefitted," he added. While further talking about the controversy that Jasleen's statement triggered, Anup Jalota stated that he called a press conference with Jasleen's father and clarified the situation to the media. 'We told them that both of us have decided that we will do the kanyadaan at Jasleen's wedding. Ab sawaal konsa rahega poochne wala? Baat hi khatam ho gayi. The doubts went away because no one saw us together at any party, watching films, performing on stage, or on any vacations." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ankit Siwach On Being A Part Of Farhan Akhtar's 120 Bahadur: 'This Is Not Just A Role...'
Last Updated: Born and raised in Meerut Cantonment, Ankit Siwach grew up surrounded by the influence of the armed forces. Therefore, he says that 120 Bahadur feels personal to him. Actor Ankit Siwach delivered an emotional and heartfelt moment at the teaser launch of his upcoming film 120 Bahadur, which stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead. 120 Bahadur is a powerful tribute to India's forgotten heroes, and for Ankit, this isn't just a role; it's personal. Born and raised in Meerut Cantonment, Ankit grew up surrounded by the influence of the armed forces. His personal connection to the military goes deep, with several family members having served in the Indian Army. Speaking at the event, he said, 'Wearing the uniform was always a dream. I was born in Meerut Cantt, raised in that environment, and had a strong emotional connection to the military. This role felt like a long-lived manifestation." Reflecting on his journey, he recalled how deeply the film Lakshya impacted him during his teenage years, 'I was in Class 11 when I first watched Lakshya. That film planted the seed of this dream. Today, it feels like that vision is coming true, and in the most meaningful way." Visibly moved by the opportunity, Ankit expressed gratitude to the entire team behind 120 Bahadur by saying, 'Thank you, Razy sir, Farhan sir, Ritesh sir, thank you for believing in me." 120 Bahadur draws inspiration from the real-life heroics of Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC, and the soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment. Set against the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-Sino War, the film draws inspiration from the legendary Battle of Rezang La, where acts of unparalleled bravery and sacrifice etched their place in history. The film recounts how 120 Indian soldiers held their ground against overwhelming enemy forces to defend Ladakh with unmatched courage and resolve. Farhan Akhtar steps into the role of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, undergoing an intense physical and emotional transformation for the part, including rigorous military training and high-altitude acclimatisation to embody the soldier's spirit with authenticity. He returns to acting four years after Toofaan, a sports drama by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Directed by Razneesh 'Razy' Ghai, and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar (Excel Entertainment), and Amit Chandrra (Trigger Happy Studios), 120 Bahadur hits theatres on November 21, 2025.
