Amazon Issues Scam Warning To Prime Members Amid Spike In Phishing
Curated By : Shankhyaneel Sarkar Last Updated: July 23, 2025, 20:28 IST In this representative AI-generated image, a concerned user examines a suspicious email while subtle visual cues highlight common signs of phishing scams, as a stylized shadow figure in the background symbolizes the hidden threats of online fraud. (IMAGE: IMAGEN 3 ENGINE) Amazon Prime users are being warned about a spike in phishing scams where attackers impersonate the company to steal sensitive data such as bank details, login credentials and social security numbers, the New York Post said, citing a top Amazon official. In a statement earlier this month, Amazon said it had taken down over 55,000 phishing websites and 12,000 phone numbers used in impersonation scams in 2024 alone. The company noted a marked rise in such attempts, especially around fake emails and texts linked to account or order issues. 'Scammers who attempt to impersonate Amazon put consumers at risk," said Dharmesh Mehta, vice president of Selling Partner Services, while speaking to the New York Post . 'Although these scams take place outside our store, we will continue to invest in protecting consumers and educating the public on how to avoid scams." Many of these scams involve emails, texts or calls claiming the user made a purchase they don't recall, prompting them to share personal details to 'verify" the order. According to Malwarebytes, some fake emails also falsely claim that a user's Prime subscription will auto-renew at a high price, including a bogus 'cancel subscription" button that redirects to a fake Amazon login page. If users enter their details on such pages, scammers can access not just their Amazon account, but any other platform using the same credentials. In some cases, users are also asked to share payment information. Swipe Left For Next Video View all Amazon said it is rolling out measures to help users verify authentic communication. Gmail, Yahoo, and other major email users will now see the Amazon smile logo beside genuine emails. The company also reiterated that it will never ask for payments over the phone or email, and never request gift card purchases. Users are advised to double-check purchase history on the official Amazon app or website and report suspicious activity directly to the company. AI demo firm Olto raises $5.1 mn from Nexus, The General Partnership
Olto, an artificial intelligence (AI) demo automation platform, has raised $5.1 million in pre-seed funding, with the round co-led by Nexus Venture Partners and The General Partnership. The funding round also saw participation from Afore Capital, Recall Capital, Ligature, FirstHand, among others. The company was founded by former Amazon executives Kintan Brahmbhatt and Jean-Baptiste Chaput, with Pranav Midha joining as founding engineer. 'At Amazon, we pioneered just-in-time personalisation to change the way consumers engage with media. With Olto, we're bringing that same magic to B2B software. Every seller gets an expert demo engineer that's always on, always current, and always tailored to the buyer,' said Kintan Brahmbhatt, chief executive officer and co-founder, Olto. Olto's AI-native platform integrates directly with a company's CRM (customer relationship manager) and live product, overlaying intelligent, prospect-specific data across real interfaces, the company claims. It added that the platform combines a custom entity resolution engine and a flexible orchestration layer that leverages multiple large language models (LLMs) to personalise demos. It claims to reduce demo preparation time by up to 80 per cent. The product adapts to ongoing changes in the underlying software, 'eliminating the delays and maintenance burden of legacy demo tools.' 'Sales teams spend countless hours on manual demo preparation, only to deliver generic experiences that don't resonate with prospects. Olto's AI-first approach eliminates this time drain and creates genuinely targeted experiences that lead to faster sales cycles,' said Abhishek Sharma, managing director, Nexus Venture Partners. Olto is headquartered in San Francisco.

Apple's first foldable iPhone tipped for 2026 with smaller displays than Galaxy Z Fold 7
Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone segment, with its first foldable iPhone expected to debut in the second half of 2026. A new report by market research firm TrendForce sheds light on the anticipated display specifications of the device, offering a clearer picture of what the so-called "iPhone Fold" might look like. According to TrendForce, the foldable iPhone is likely to feature a 5.5-inch outer screen and a 7.8-inch internal foldable display. These dimensions align with previous predictions shared by a Chinese tipster earlier this year. If accurate, Apple's foldable handset would be smaller in both screen areas compared to Samsung's recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 7, which boasts a larger display footprint. While the report refrains from delving into further technical specifications, it does suggest that Apple is focusing on delivering a version of iOS tailored specifically for foldable use cases. The foldable iPhone is expected to run a variant of the operating system believed to be iOS 27. Other industry reports have also offered insight into Apple's foldable ambitions. Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously indicated that the inner display would be manufactured by Samsung Display and designed to be free of the visible crease common in current foldable phones. A custom-built hinge and backplate developed by Fine M-Tec are also said to be in the works, aimed at boosting structural integrity. Meanwhile, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has claimed that the device may resemble a model from the Galaxy Z Fold series and could incorporate components sourced from Samsung. Apple is reportedly working on integrating these elements with its own software to offer a distinct user experience. As it stands, the foldable iPhone is believed to be slated to compete with the next generation of foldable devices from major Android manufacturers, including successors to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Vivo X Fold 5, and Oppo Find N5. More information, including detailed specifications and potential pricing, is expected to emerge as the projected 2026 launch date approaches.
