Dhian Singh Mand rejects Giani Gargaj as Akal Takht jathedar
"We have discussed this matter and reached the conclusion that Giani Gargaj has no authority to summon any Sikh to the Akal Takht or to take decisions on Panthic matters, especially when his own appointment remains controversial," Mand said on Wednesday
According to sources, the trigger for the parallel leadership's response was the summoning of Punjab cabinet minister Harjot Singh Bains and the director of the language department, Jaswant Singh.
Jarnail Singh Sakhira, chief organiser, Sarbat Khalsa, emphasised that a major number of Sikh organisations have opposed the procedure adopted by the SGPC to appoint Giani Gargaj. "Damdami Taksal, led by Harnam Singh Dhumma, has been vocal in its rejection of Giani Gargaj's appointment. Not only the Taksal, but the Sant Samaj and various Nihang groups have also passed resolutions declaring his appointment invalid, citing violations of Sikh principles and traditions," said Sakhira.

Sources said that the controversy surrounding Giani Gargaj's appointment has exposed the deepening tensions between the SGPC and the broader Panthic bodies. Interestingly, Giani Raghbir Singh, former Akal Takht jathedar and Golden Temple head granthi, who earlier criticised the manner of Gargaj's appointment, has now hosted and honoured him at his residence.
When asked about the apparent truce, Mand dismissed it as occurring under "suspicious circumstances." "How can Giani Raghbir Singh honour someone whose appointment he himself previously condemned as a violation of maryada (Sikh religious code)?" Mand questioned.

Bihar unveils Rs 94.5 crore plan for digital libraries; approves 2400 MW power plant
NEW DELHI: In a series of key decisions aimed at education, infrastructure and public services, the Bihar cabinet on Tuesday approved the setting up of digital libraries in all 243 assembly constituencies, along with green signals for a major thermal power project, inter-state bus services, land acquisition for industrial zones and preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. To boost digital access to learning, especially for students preparing for competitive exams, the cabinet gave its nod to establish a 'digital library kendra' in every constituency under the Mukhya Mantri Digital Library Yojana. The estimated cost for the project is Rs 94.50 crore. Each library, to be set up in government buildings like schools, colleges, panchayat offices or community halls with adequate space, will be equipped with 10 computer terminals, electricity, and high-speed internet. 'It will require minimum of 300 sq ft area for installing and operating 10 computers,' said additional chief secretary of the cabinet secretariat department, S Siddharth. In a major shift in energy policy, the cabinet also approved a 2400 MW thermal power plant (800 MW x 3) at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur, replacing the earlier plan for a solar power unit. For industrial growth, the cabinet authorised the Infrastructure Development Authority to acquire land across several districts. Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Rs 154.30 crore has been sanctioned for installing cameras at 90,712 polling stations to enable full webcasting and improved monitoring. Other decisions included the creation of 167 posts in Munger University and Rs 65.80 crore for a 720-bed Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Residential School in Nabinagar, Aurangabad.

Patna: Expelled from party and "disowned" by his family, RJD chief Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav launched a political front on Tuesday and announced at a press conference his alliance with Pradeep Nishad's Vanchit Vikas Insaan Party (VVIP). Lalu had expelled the Hasanpur MLA from RJD for six years and also "disowned" him after his photographs and video with a girl, Anushkaa Yadav, went viral on social media. Taking a dig at his rivals with an oblique reference to his younger brother and the RJD's CM face, Tej said, "I will fight for Bihar. I have many enemies. It will hurt when they hear about it (alliance with VVIP)." He further said, "Tejashwi must be watching. I bless him to move forward." Tej also invited RJD and Congress to join his team and called Mukesh Sahani an "impersonator" (bahurupiya). He said the VVIP is the original party.
