🎥 OTD 2009: Iniesta magic sends Barcelona to UCL final

Barcelona will hope for a smoother outcome in their Champions League second-leg semi-final clash against Inter on Tuesday compared to the nail-biting finale at Stamford Bridge 16 years ago.
The Blaugrana's European charge towards the final was temporarily halted by a stubborn Chelsea in the semi-final, who held Pep Guardiola's outfit to a 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou.
Barça's chances of securing a second Champions League title in four seasons were then dealt a huge blow when Michael Essien put Chelsea in front early in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Yet, with a star-studded lineup, quality was never far away and Lionel Messi jinked into the box in the final minute and teed up Andrés Iniesta to curl into the top corner.

Hansi Flick's Barcelona head to the San Siro locked 3-3 on aggregate with Inter and will hope to take some inspiration from Messi, Iniesta and co from that memorable night in London.

Versatile Chelsea talent is a £5m bargain for any Championship club

We wrote earlier this week about the 7 senior players who are set to leave Chelsea. That list didn't include senior players who are 'maybes', who would leave only if the right offer came in. That includes Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, most notably. But it also leaves out players who aren't considered first team squad members, like Alfie Gilchrist. Gilchrist ready to cash in on two solid seasons The academy product took advantage of an injury crisis at the back during Mauricio Pochettino's season in charge to become an important squad player, picking up 17 appearances for the Blues during the 2023-2024 season. That showed his quality to the world and he took a season long loan to Sheffield United last season where he improved that reputation further. Now he's been lined up for a permanent move, with a number of Championship clubs interested. Jacobs says Chelsea defender could leave for £5m Ben Jacobs on Alfie Gilchrist's potential move. Ben Jacobs is well connected at Chelsea, and he claimed that Derby, Watford, Middlesbrough and Blackburn have all 'enquired on' Gilchrist this summer. We suspect there could be a few more, given he's young and relatively cheap. There's also been some interesting links to Saudi Arabian clubs – it's not a very natural move for them, or for Gilchrist, but the salary on offer there is going to be incomparable to those in the Championship, so we'd understand if he was tempted. Jacobs says that Chelsea are looking for just £5m for the defender, who can play at centre back or right back. that seems cheap to us – we could easily see him being worth a multiple of that after a few good years of Championship action. He's buried deep on the depth chart at Chelsea, but is a really solid Cobham-trained talent with tons to offer, and we expect him back in the Premier League before too long.

Newcastle to rival Juventus and Villarreal for Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi

Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi (27) is of interest to a handful of European clubs, according to a report from . The France international has been deemed surplus to requirements by Enzo Maresca. Disasi spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. Unai Emery's Villans have decided against making the former Monaco centre-back's move at Villa Park a permanent one. Disasi is not even included in the Blues' profiles on Chelsea's website. RMC Sport understands that Villarreal and Juventus FC have made initial enquiries over the France international. Disasi has made clear he would rather remain in the Premier League, if the opportunity presented itself. The report adds that Newcastle United are monitoring Disasi's situation. Newcastle would reportedly not hesitate to sign a centre-back, given the added fixtures of at least eight Champions League games, and that Disasi is among the Magpies' targets. GFFN | Bastien Cheval
