Beachgoers and first responders in Limon desperately tried to save Warner, but he was pronounced dead.
CPR was performed on him for around 20 minutes, as reported by People.
Costa Rican cops ruled his cause of death as asphyxiation by submersion.
Warner, 54, didn't have vital signs when he was pulled onto the shore and he was taken to a local morgue.
Another man has been left critically injured and he was rushed to the hospital.
Tributes have poured in to Warner and Bill Cosby, who played Theo's dad Cliff Huxtable in the show, said the actor's death reminded him about his son's murder.
Cosby was filming the sitcom in January 1997 when he was told his son Ennis had been shot dead.
Ennis was killed in a botched robbery.
Cosby's rep told TMZ that Warner and Ennis used to socialize when they were children.
'It was shocking,' shamed star Cosby later told the ABC affiliate WPVI-TV as he recalled learning about Warner's death.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner's last TV interview gave rare insight into Bill Cosby and his time on show just weeks before death
Cosby has led the tributes to his late co-star.
'You could depend on Malcolm always going to uh the shelter, to learn his lines, to gather his character to come out and be ready,' he said.
'When the news came, it was shocking. And of course, my thoughts went straight to his mother, who worked so hard.
'She was so wonderful with him.'
Beyonce, Kate Hudson, and Jamie Foxx are among the A-Listers that have paid tribute to the late sitcom star.
Hudson described Warner as someone who was the "kindest and sweetest."
"Rest in power, Malcolm-Jamal Warner. For being a big part of our shared television history," Beyonce wrote on her website.
"You will be missed."

Kelly Osbourne shares sweet 'best ever' moment with dad Ozzy days after death

Kelly Osbourne continues to mourn the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, and took to social media to share a sweet moment between the pair that was labelled "one of the best Ozzy moments ever' As the world comes to terms with the tragic death of Ozzy Osbourne, his daughter Kelly Osbourne has shared one of her favourite moments with her iconic dad. In an Instagram upload, the 40-year-old shows off the father and daughter duo enjoying a touching moment in a post labelled: "One of the best Ozzy moments ever!" ‌ The clip was reshared on Kelly's Instagram Stories and showed the family members enjoying a road trip together. In the upload, which came from realityTV show Jack & Ozzy's World Detour, Kelly takes to the driver's seat of the huge campervan. ‌ As Ozzy enters and sits in the passenger seat, wearing his usual dark attire, Kelly tells him she has a "song in my head and I'm going to have to play it for you". The Prince of Darkness appears intrigued as his daughter sets up the song. ‌ While Ozzy is strapping himself in for the ride, George Ezra's tune Paradise begins playing over the vehicle's speakers. Kelly begins singing along as her dad listens intently. After a short while it appears as though the tune has caught the Black Sabbath man's attention as he begins to dance and bounce in his seat. Beaming a sweet smile in Kelly's direction as she continues to sing the pair are then seen in a cute moment as they both dance together on the journey, copying each other's hand movements. ‌ The clip ends with Kelly heard telling her dad she loves him. "I love you more," he sweetly responds. Ozzy died earlier in the week aged 76 after a battle with Parkinson's disease. Days after his death was announced, Kelly broke her social media silence with a heartbreaking comment. ‌ In her upload, she described the rock legend as "the best friend I ever had". The father and daughter were inseparable, with Kelly staying by her father's side during his final days. Just two days before his death, she shared a heartwarming video of the musician and his grandson - her young son - at the breakfast table. Kelly wrote on Instagram: "I feel so unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had." The reference is a line from his hit tune Changes. In 2003, Kelly and Ozzy re-recorded the track together. The song was co-written by Ozzy with his bandmates and was first released by Black Sabbath in 1972. ‌ Kelly's version with her dad revised the lyrics to reflect her bond with her dad. The song was a No. 1 hit in the U.K., and they became just the second father-daughter pair to top the charts, after Frank and Nancy Sinatra in 1967. A source shared with People about Ozzy's last moments. They said: "Ozzy's final days were spent in England, surrounded by family, music and in the place he called home. He was in peace."

Calandagan finally wins his big one as he comes from last to first in the King George at Ascot

LAND GRAB Calandagan finally wins his big one as he comes from last to first in the King George at Ascot Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CALANDAGAN has been called lots of names over the last 12 months, not many of them nice. Well, now he'll forever be known as a King George winner after a performance which silenced the doubters in no uncertain terms. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Calandagan (11-10f) won a King George thriller at Ascot Credit: Getty The horse who long seemed destined to go down as one of the game's great bridesmaids had every opportunity to throw in the towel when Kalpana quickened away and push came to shove. He could have folded like a cheap suit when asked to make a lung-busting run after the filly who'd got first run and was getting 3lb, or hoisted the white flag when eye-balling her in the heat of battle. Instead, he dug deeper than the Channel Tunnel to give his burgeoning trainer Francis-Henri Graffard — a coming force on the world stage — his second King George in a row. Magnifique. Not so the Ballydoyle tactics, which even left Graffard and winning jockey Mickael Barzalona scratching their heads. Here they had the 5-2 second favourite in Jan Brueghel, a horse with abundant stamina who outstayed Calandagan at Epsom two months ago and for whom a strong, end-to-end gallop was vital. Everyone expected the 40-1 rag Continuous to set off on his usual pace-making duties to ensure it wasn't a tactical race. Puzzlingly, he was dropped in behind his stablemate and they ended up going a crawl as Jan Brueghel did the donkey work. It made little sense — not that Barzalona was complaining. He was on the horse with the best turn of foot, so he must have been licking his lips. Mind you, Andrew Balding's fine filly Kalpana showed an impressive burst of her own as she kicked for home at the two-furlong pole. Oisin Murphy moved up going strongly as Jan Brueghel struggled to go through the gears as the pace lifted before she suddenly exploded two or three lengths clear. It looked for the best part of a furlong that Calandagan would be unable to reel her in but, as all the top-class ones do, he quickened once, quickened twice and was going away by a length at the line. He was second in the Juddmonte International, Champion Stakes, Sheema Classic and Coronation Cup — but he's the Chantilly shirker no more. Graffard said: 'I never had any doubts about his will to win, when he's been beaten he has had excuses. 'He was really far back at York last year and he quickened really strongly, probably too late. He was beaten by a good horse in Dubai and at Epsom things didn't go to plan. 'I never thought it was because he didn't want to try and his jockeys have never reported that to me either. 'This is the fifth time Mickael has ridden him, he has been getting to know him and knows what to do on him now. There is no doubt anymore about the horse.' In hindsight, maybe Murphy could have held on for a few more seconds on Kalpana before committing her for home. But Balding was chuffed with the run as she continues to build towards her D-Day in the Arc. He said: 'I'm very proud of her, she's run her heart out again and just been beaten by a good horse. We'll work back from the Arc, now.' It looks like the Juddmonte International at York is next on the agenda for Calandagan, where a mouthwatering showdown with Field Of Gold awaits. Tres bien.
