90s music icon 'finally on his way to being knighted'

Metroa day ago
Robbie Williams is reportedly well on his way to receiving a knighthood due to his tireless efforts fundraising for charity and his contributions to music.
The pop sensation, 51, has had success both as a solo artist and as a member of the boy band Take That.
Outside of the music industry, he created Soccer Aid in 2006, which has so far earned an eye-watering £106million for Unicef, where he has also been an ambassador since 2000.
He had taken part in 11 Comic Relief events and founded The Heavy Entertainment Show Charitable Trust in 2019 alongside his wife, Ayda Field, which supports causes related to children, education, arts, and culture
After his latest world tour, it was reported by The Sun that he donated £250,000 of the proceeds to charitable organisations.
And now, the publication reports that the music icon has been nominated for a knighthood, which will now be put in front of the honours committee.
Metro's WWE reporter and Robbie Williams superfan Alistair McGeorge on reports Robbie Williams will receive a knighthood:
After decades of charity work and absolute bangers, Sir Robbie Williams has a great ring to it.
On his Britpop European tour this summer, he's been branding himself the King of Entertainment, and he's more than earned his tongue-in-cheek bravado.
For the music alone – Escapology is a top-five album of all time, and even this punk-rock fan won't hear any different – it's hard to argue with the legacy he's built.
He's matched The Beatles' 15 UK Number 1 albums (with another coming this month) and has been a consistent presence in the charts for the last few decades.
Back in 2006, he set a Guinness World Record after selling 1.6million tickets in just one day for his Close Encounters tour. Let that sink in.
His legacy goes beyond hits like Angels and She's The One, and deeper cuts like Monsoon and Hot Fudge.
From Comic Relief to the creation of Soccer Aid 19 years ago – which has raised £106m for Unicef so far – Robbie's charity work is as admirable as it is consistent.
He's also been a vocal advocate for mental health support, helping people across the UK realise they're not alone.
It's easy to write Robbie off or ridicule him – he'll be the first to do that himself, after all – but calls for a knighthood are absolutely deserved.
Arise, Sir Robbie – and let him entertain you.
From there, Sir Keir Starmer and then King Charles will sign off on the nomination, and then he will be Sir Robbie.
He wouldn't be the first member of Take That to earn a title after Gary Barlow was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2012 for his services to the entertainment industry and charity.
Robbie's contributions to music cannot be understated, with the Rock DJ hitmaker tying with The Beatles for the most UK number one albums.
He had seven UK number one singles and 13 number one studio albums in the UK.
In 2006, he got a Guinness World Record for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day to his mammoth Close Encounters Tour.

Across his career, he has received 18 Brit Awards, two Outstanding Contribution to Music awards, and an Icon Award for his lasting impact on British Culture.
In 2014, he was even awarded the freedom of his hometown, Stoke-on-Trent, and had a street named in his honour. More Trending
Last year, a biopic based on his life, Better Man, was released detailing his childhood, struggles with addiction, and rise to fame.
Despite Better Man being deemed a commercial failure, Robbie has revealed that he's already working on releasing a sequel, which will pick up from around 2007 onwards.
Speaking to Australian DJ Sean Brown, the pop icon said: 'There is so much that didn't make the movie, only because we couldn't fit it in.'
He continued: '[It's not like] I was too embarrassed or ashamed to put it—there are many stories. It would have had to be a five-hour film to fit everything in.'

As the masses gathered on Friday, Liam said: 'Manchester vibes in the area,' before he kicked off the show with Hello, which served as the opening track for their 1995 classic 'What's The Story (Morning Glory). They then went into Acquiesce - a song from their first 1995 album, which was followed by the iconic Morning Glory - the titular song of the second studio album. Liam shouted out: 'Yes beautiful people! It's been too long.' He then ordered the crowd to 'turn around and bounce' ahead of Cigarettes and Alcohol. After performing Some Might Say, Bring It On Down and Fade Away, Liam went off for a rest, while Noel performed his acoustic version of Talk Tonight. Then Noel appeared emotional as he performed Half The World Away and even stopped singing for a few bars at one point. The crowds went wild as they belted out Wonderwall and the brothers became very emotional as they began to close down the show. 'Thanks for putting up with us over the years. We're hard work. We get it,' Liam gushed. They then rounded off their first gig in 16 years with legendary track Champagne Supernova.

One person who made sure they were there was Noel's ex-wife Meg. The former couple were married from 1996 before divorcing four years later. The socialite, who he shares his beloved daughter Anais with, has been a big supporter of Oasis' comeback, so she was there to show her support on the tour's first night. She was spotted arriving at the gig in Cardiff in "good spirits", as she took her seat with friends. A source told The Mirror: "After posting about her ex-husband for weeks, Meg Mathews had a prime seat for watching the band. "She was in great spirits before the set, watching Richard Ashcroft with pals." However, after Oasis' two hour set the band came back with a three song encore which included Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. The Mirror reports that it was at this moment Meg decided to "walk out" and leave the gig. Hardcore fans will remember that Noel actually wrote Wonderwall for Meg, when they were together. GIG OF THE CENTURY It's fair to say last night's Oasis comeback did NOT disappoint. Fans were treated to performances by Cast, a Britpop band from Liverpool, and The Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft before the Gallagher brothers made their long awaited return to the stage. Oasis proved they were worth the 16 year wait, playing a whopping 23 songs from their impressive back catalogue including Roll With It, Stand By Me, and Talk Tonight. 8 Oasis' set list for their return gig in Cardiff ended with Champagne Supernova Before Cigarettes & Alcohol Liam dished out orders to the crowd, saying: 'I want you to do us a favour. Butlins nominated for top UK travel awards

Butlins could be bringing home two prestigious industry awards this year, but holidaymakers can still save up to 40% on breaks A much-loved family holiday destination is celebrating national recognition after being shortlisted for two major accolades in the 2025 British Travel Awards. Butlin's Bognor Regis has been named a finalist for both 'Best Company for UK Parks and Lodges Holidays' and 'Favourite Company for Radio Advertisements.' These prestigious consumer-voted awards honour excellence across the UK travel and leisure industry, covering everything from holiday parks to cruise lines. Winners are decided entirely by public vote, offering a true reflection of what UK holidaymakers value most when they take a break. Butlin's is encouraging holidaymakers to cast their vote before voting closes November, 1. Anyone taking part will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win rewards such as a £5,000 Greek holiday, a river cruise worth over £4,000, holiday vouchers up to £1,000, or a £5,000 European villa break. Votes can be made online via the British Travel Awards website. The Bognor Regis resort has recently unveiled new attractions following an ambitious makeover. Among the highlights is the company's largest-ever indoor Soft Play centre, covering over 3,000 square feet across four floors and accommodating up to 200 children at a time - double the previous capacity. The addition of a brand-new Puppet Theatre with themed play zones, a sensory area for babies, a cosy café, and free puppet shows such as Under The Sea and Christmouse has further boosted the resort's family-friendly appeal. These features have already proven a hit, with thousands of families expected to visit during the school holidays. The £1.8 million Soft Play investment is part of wider developments across Butlin's three seaside resorts. Bognor Regis is also home to the £15 million indoor activity centre PLAYXPERIENCE, offering nine immersive gaming experiences, from laser tag and a VR arcade to escape rooms. Meanwhile, Minehead recently welcomed a second £2.5 million SKYPARK, an inclusive and interactive playground for children of all abilities. In Skegness, the £12 million Maple Walk village introduced 128 contemporary Premium Lodges at the heart of the resort. To celebrate, Butlin's has launched a major summer sale on 2025 and 2026 holidays, with discounts of up to 40%. Offers include Midweek Showtime breaks at Bognor Regis from £69 in June, Summer Holidays with Stephen Mulhern featuring three-night stays from £352, and Justin Fletcher Tots Breaks starting at £79 in September. Holiday parks are a cherished British tradition, with families returning year after year for fun-filled breaks. For families looking for a break by the seaside, Haven Holidays offers a perfect blend of fun and nostalgia, while Parkdean Resorts provides a similar experience, with 66 parks featuring pools, on-site dining, and classic seaside activities. While Center Parcs remains a favourite for its forest escapes packed with activities, prices can soar during school holidays. Brits love Butlins for the affordable fun it offers, with holidaymakers sharing their experiences on TripAdvisor. One visitor said: "We had a lovely Easter break at Butlin's Bognor. Top quality entertainment, engaging and friendly staff and we had the weather too. Such good fun for young and old alike. Very impressed with the new soft play, the Splash water park was fabulous and from start to finish we received nothing but exceptional customer service." Another family who stayed at Minehead added: "We've just returned from our most amazing family break at Butlins Minehead, marking our fifth year visiting, and we honestly can't praise it enough! From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations." A holidaymaker who just returned from a visit in June, said: "Went to Skegness Butlins over the weekend and it was amazing, the kids absolutely loved it! The place was lovely and clean, staff were extremely helpful and we can't wait to come back." Nevertheless, not everyone left with rave reviews. One less impressed visitor noted: "Decided to give Butlin's a go for half term. Overall, for us adults, everything was a bit meh except for the entertainment, which was awesome." Another positive review from Bognor mentioned: "Always things to do never get bored. Very clean apartment. New playxperience building is very good, packed with new, fun experiences. Had great fun in laser tag. Brilliant and helpful staff." All of Butlin's holiday offers can be found here, with deals available at Minehead, Bognor Regis and Skegness. Depending on the date and location, guests could also secure up to 40% discount on meal packages.
