Aiman retains time trial gold for sixth time at National Championships
KUALA LUMPUR: Terengganu Cycling Team B rider Nur Aiman Rosli underlined his dominance once again by winning the men's elite time trial gold medal for the sixth consecutive time at the National Road Cycling Championships in Johor on Friday.
The Johor-born cyclist completed the 40.6km route in 50:31.405s to take gold.
Dealton Nur Arif Prayogo of Jakarta Pro Cycling finished second in 51:32.970, while Terengganu Cycling Team A's Nur Aiman Zariff (52:02.463) took bronze.
Aiman said: "I managed to retain the title for the sixth time and I'm happy to achieve it.
"I'm pleased with the result. My performance is getting better, and I'll be focusing on the next event — the road race."
Aiman's result shows positive signs for Malaysia ahead of this year's Thailand Sea Games.

Iskandar joins BAM as singles coach
KUALA LUMPUR: The BA of Malaysia's search for a national singles coach is over. Former national shuttler Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin will take up the post from Oct 1. BAM president Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz confirmed today the appointment of Iskandar, who is currently Ireland's head coach. "We have a new coach, Iskandar, to support the singles team. He will be returning from Ireland and will join us on Oct 1," said Tengku Zafrul. Iskandar, 34, who was the 2009 World Junior Championships runner-up and a 2016 Thomas Cup team member, first joined Ireland as a sparring partner in September, 2021 while still active on the World Tour. However, the Kuala Lumpur-born Iskandar decided to retire and became Ireland's national coach in the same year. Ireland was also impressed with his services and signed a contract with him until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Iskandar, whose work had been commended by national singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen, will fill the spot left vacant by Indonesian Jeffer Rosobin in February. BAM secretary Datuk Kenny Goh said Iskandar will guide the Ireland squad for the World Championships in August before moving back to Malaysia. Earlier, BAM also had Chong Wei Feng on their radar but the former Sea Games champion had decided to continue focusing on his private academies in the Klang Valley.

Aaliyah sweeps gold at Asian Waterski Championships
KUALA LUMPUR: National waterski ace Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah showed her maturity as she led Malaysia to an outstanding haul at the Asian Championships in Bangkok which concluded in Bangkok on Sunday (June 29). Aaliyah completed a clean sweep in the women's events, winning the open slalom, tricks, jump and overall titles in Thailand. It is the third time the 21-year-old has dominated the women's events at the Asian meet after previously sweeping medals at the Thailand (2019) and South Korea (2022) editions. This time, her brother Aiden, 19, also captured gold in the men's open tricks and overall categories as well as bronze in both the slalom and jump events. Meanwhile Aaliyah's other brother Adam, 17, clinched bronze in the men's open tricks. Malaysia also made history in the team event, with Aaliyah, Aiden, Adam and Syahir Nasir combining to beat Asian powerhouses Japan and South Korea to claim the team title for the first time. Hanifah Yoong, who is the trio's father and also the national head coach, said it was a proud moment for Malaysia. "We are extremely proud of the team, especially with Aaliyah now performing at her peak," he said. "She is also playing a key role in helping to coach and guide her brothers, as well as Syahir. The boys have matured and are now capable of challenging the top male skiers in Asia." The squad's performances in Bangkok bodes well for Malaysia's hopes in upcoming competitions, he added. "Malaysia will be in a strong position to do well at both Thailand Sea Games this year (Dec) and the 2027 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur," said Hanifah.
