More than 20 are injured including 1 seriously when bus flips over in northeastern Germany
BERLIN — A bus carrying travellers from Denmark to Austria skidded off a road in northern Germany and flipped over on Friday, injuring more than 20 people including one seriously, police said.
The bus, operated by Flixbus, left the Autobahn motorway in the pre-dawn hours on an exchange leading to the city of Röbel, about 140 kilometres (85 miles) north of Berlin, police said.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
23 people were injured on the bus carrying 53 passengers and two drivers from Copenhagen to Vienna, according to Flixbus. Rescuers took about two hours to extract one seriously injured victim.
Emergency services, the fire brigade and a rescue helicopter responded. Authorities sealed off the area of the road throughout Friday morning.
Flixbus expressed 'great dismay' that the bus crashed and said it was working with authorities to determine the cause of the incident.

Quebec police hand out speeding tickets as construction holiday begins
As the construction holiday begins in Quebec, police officers say they are ready to hand out tickets to curb dangerous driving on the roads. On Thursday morning, officers with the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) began increased surveillance on Highway 50 in Mirabel and Highway 20 in the Rivière-Beaudette region of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, both of which are considered collision-prone areas. Police issued more than 260 statements of offence, including 146 speeding tickets, during the operation. In what the SQ calls a 'zero zone' approach, the force says it is strategically intervening in areas where the most crashes occur. Police traditionally step up surveillance during the two-week period, when many Quebecers take to the roads for vacation, as it is considered one of the deadliest times of year for road accidents. Last year, the SQ reported 17 fatal collisions resulting in 18 deaths between July 19 and Aug. 4. In 2023, there were 19 collisions resulting in 24 deaths for the same period.

Repairs for Kicking Horse Mountain Resort's gondola delayed

The gondola has been closed since the incident and the resort said it is taking steps to replace all cabin hanger arms with newly manufactured parts. Unfortunately, due to supply chain delays, those parts are expected to ship sometime in the first week of August. At about 9:20 am. on March 10, a cabin from the gondola at Golden, B.C.'s Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was leaving the station when it fell from its lift line. It fell about one metre to the ground. Emergency crews responded immediately, the resort said, and eight passengers were rescued from the fallen cabin. No one was seriously hurt.
