OLX India launches Elite Buyer plan to improve second-hand deals
The platform, which attracts over 180 million users annually, said the new programme would function across major categories including cars, bikes, real estate, electronics, mobiles and furniture. Subscribers will receive an Elite badge that appears during chats with sellers. According to the company, this is intended to improve response rates and speed up transactions.
The programme is available on a per-category basis. Buyers wanting access to listings in more than one category will need to purchase separate subscriptions.
• Mobiles – Rs 49
• Real estate – Rs 199
• Bikes, electronics, furniture – Rs 99 each
• Cars – Rs 199
The Elite Buyer Pro (Tag + Leads Pack) plan builds on the basic offering by including verified leads along with unlimited chats for 30 days. Due to the added value, prices are higher:
• Mobiles – Rs 799
• Real estate – Rs 3,999
• Bikes, furniture – Rs 1,299 each
• Electronics – Rs 1,999
• Cars – Rs 3,999
'Most buyers tend to operate within a single category, so the programme has been built accordingly,' said Vinay Sanghi, Chairman and Founder of CarTrade Tech.
OLX handles about 53 million buyers and 18 million sellers annually. The company claims to facilitate $3 billion worth of used goods sales each year, with a gross merchandise value (GMV) of $29 billion across listings.
The platform receives listings across 12 categories and sees an average of 35 million unique visitors per month.
Used cars, two-wheelers and mobile electronics remain among the platform's most active segments. According to Sanghi, used-car transactions on OLX have exceeded volumes in the new car market. Other active categories include furniture and white goods.
OLX confirmed that the Elite Buyer programme will be followed by multiple technology rollouts over the coming months, including AI-driven verification, listing optimisation and enhanced trust and safety systems. Sanghi said tech development is handled in-house and forms part of the platform's ongoing operating expenses.
The company is also working on future tools to enable payments, logistics and financing support, although it will continue to operate as a listings-first platform for the foreseeable future.

Close-knit shopping community ‘deklutters' spaces
Chennai: Shakuntala Krishnan, a city resident, doesn't step out much to buy things these days. Instead, she opens WhatsApp and connects with a community of like-minded people posting items ranging from clothes to bookshelves and electronics for sale every day. The end result, she says, is saved time and cost-effective purchases with minimal effort. The platform that facilitates this for her is named 'Let's DeKlutter', operating through more than 185 WhatsApp groups spanning 170 cities nationwide. Formed by Kiran Gupta in Dec 2020 in Chennai, the venture has grown into a community of 36,000 members across the country. "The aim is to promote reuse of items among the middle class and elite, which subsequently promotes sustainability. By selling and buying used items, excessive manufacturing is curbed and less waste is generated, benefiting the environment," Kiran told TOI. Though modelled on platforms such as Quikr and Olx, Kiran's venture is different in one aspect — the platform doesn't earn a single rupee through transactions. "Every transaction is independently carried out. People log in, they see the product, message the person involved, and proceed with the sale. We merely play the role of a platform-provider," said Kiran. No videos are allowed. "In some cases, we can sell the product for free or even exchange it for something else. The pickup details are individually agreed upon by the parties involved. Moreover, as the platform is WhatsApp, people of all age groups find it easier to use," said a city resident who frequently uses the group. In Chennai, seven groups covering all 15 zones operate with 2,050 members. Salem, Madurai, Coimbatore, Yercaud, Mettupalayam, Vellore, and Kumbakonam are other places where DeKlutter groups have been formed. "We kicked off the initiative in Chennai, but it wasn't successful at first. So, I took the initiative to Gurgaon and saw success there. Later, I relaunched it in Chennai. Today, people trust us for what we are," said Kiran.

Used-car sales to expand 8-10% in FY26, outpace new vehicles: Crisil
The used-car market in India is expected to expand 8–10 per cent in FY26, more than double the projected growth for new car sales. The total used-car volume is likely to surpass 6 million units this fiscal, according to Crisil Ratings, driven by affordability concerns, growing digital platforms, and improved access to financing. The used-to-new car sales ratio has increased to 1.4 from less than 1 five years ago. The market value of used cars is estimated to be around ₹4 trillion, nearly matching that of new car sales. Crisil's analysis of six organised used-car companies — including CarDekho, Cars24, CarTrade, Spinny, Mahindra First Choice, and OLX-backed platforms — shows that revenue growth is expected to help players break even at the operating level in the next 12–18 months. Until then, liquidity and timely fund-raising will be critical, especially as most companies are still incurring cash losses due to high operating costs tied to logistics, refurbishment, and customer acquisition. Used-vehicle sales grew 8 per cent in FY25, rebounding from the slow 5 per cent annual growth between FY17 and FY24. This growth trajectory is expected to continue into FY26. However, India still trails global markets in used-to-new ratios, with the United States at 2.5, the United Kingdom at 4.0, and Germany at 2.6. 'The rising used-to-new car ratio suggests a shift in buyer behaviour, driven by digital platforms, faster upgrade cycles, and a growing preference for utility vehicles,' said Anuj Sethi, Senior Director at Crisil Ratings. The average age of used vehicles sold is declining and expected to fall to 3.7 years, down from 5.3 years in FY17. The segment also benefited from disruptions in new car deliveries caused by global semiconductor and rare-earth magnet shortages. Pre-owned vehicles have become an alternative for buyers seeking immediate ownership, while first-time buyers are finding more options in the used segment thanks to strong new vehicle sales in recent years. Despite topline growth, profitability remains elusive. 'High cost of customer acquisition, logistics and refurbishment continues to weigh on the operating margin, which remains thin or negative for many players,' said Poonam Upadhyay, Director at Crisil Ratings. She noted that integrated offerings — such as financing, insurance, doorstep delivery, and inspection services — may help reduce losses over time. Crisil data indicates that revenue for the six analysed players rose from ₹6,536 crore in FY22 to an estimated ₹16,500 crore in FY26. Despite losses, these companies maintain cash buffers from earlier fund-raises and are planning capital expenditure of ₹800–1,000 crore this fiscal, primarily to expand inspection hubs and improve technology. Since FY19, organised players have collectively raised over ₹14,000 crore in equity. Bank lending has remained tight for this sector due to continued cash burn but could revive — particularly for inventory-led platforms with physical collateral.
