Rhyse Martin has no regrets leaving Leeds for Hull KR
Martin could hardly have timed his recovery better having returned for last week's win over Wakefield, and is now in line to feature against the Rhinos, for whom he made 132 appearances and amassed over 1000 points.
Martin told the PA news agency: 'Coming to the club to try and add something to the team, it was something I definitely didn't want to happen. I wanted to be on the field showing what I can do for this team. But I'm back now and I get another chance to earn the respect of my team-mates.
'For me it just felt like time to make a change and take up a new challenge, where I've had to start again. I think when you're in that sort of position it brings the best of you as a player. When you take up a new challenge you find out what you're made of and how tough you are.'
Martin's Rhinos career always looked likely to come to a close as they headed towards a second consecutive season without a play-off berth, and for a time he looked likely to return to Australia before Willie Peters stepped in to add the cool goal-kicker – who jointly holds the world record for 41 consecutive successful kicks – to his talent pool.
The departure of former head coach Rohan Smith in June added to the uncertainty at Headingley, and with his replacement Brad Arthur still far from certain of his long-term plans, Martin said the situation confirmed his decision to move elsewhere.
Going through the 'horrible' experience of watching Rovers' Challenge Cup win over Warrington from the sidelines has only served to confirm his desire to win more with Rovers, and a win over the Rhinos, one of the biggest contenders for a top-two slot, would be a big step in the right direction.
'My time at Rhinos was good but I was thinking about the next couple of years,' added Martin. 'I think they're in a position where they're not sure where they're going with their head coach, whereas I knew at Rovers there was stability and they were pushing for silverware, so that really made the decision a lot easier.'

The Wolves centre-back has agreed to make the move north on a season-long loan as Ibrox boss Russell Martin steps up his busy recruitment drive. The new Rangers gaffer has already welcomed Lyall Cameron, Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Manny Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard on board. Now his hoping to introduce Djiga to his team once they arrive at St George's Park in Burton for a week long training camp. The 22-year-old Burkino Faso international made a £10million move from Red Star Belgrade to Molineux last January. But having made just six appearances for the Premier League outfit, Wolves chiefs have decided he needs more game time if he's to make the grade in England. Wanderers coach Vítor Pereira remains a big believer in the giant 6ft 4ins stopper's potential and as such, there will be no option to buy included in his loan agreement. But the deal will still suit Martin, who is keen to stiffen up his backline ahead of the club's crucial Champions League qualifier with Panathinaikos in a fortnight's time. Rob Burrow's former Castleford school opens gym in his name
A fitness centre named in honour of rugby league player Rob Burrow has opened at his former school in West Rob Burrow Fitness Suite was officially opened at Airedale Academy in Castleford earlier, with a new annual rugby league tournament also held in his facility, which is open to pupils, staff and the wider community, was opened by Burrow's wife, Lindsey, and his former Leeds Rhinos teammate and close friend, Jamie Academy head teacher Andy Percival said he hoped it would "inspire generations to come". Following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019, Burrow became an inspirational figure for his work raising awareness of the incurable condition, as well as for his fundraising efforts alongside another close friend and former teammate, Kevin died in June 2024 aged 41, though Sinfield has continued to raise millions for MND Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, paid for by the pair's charity work, is set to open at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds later this summer."Rob's legacy is one of courage, excellence, and community," said Mr Percival."We are honoured to celebrate his life and achievements through this new facility and tournament, which we hope will inspire generations to come." 'A fitting tribute' The inaugural Rob Burrow Trust Rugby League Varsity Tournament involved 250 pupils from school across the Castleford Academy Trust, which runs Airdale Academy, Castleford Academy and Crofton Panayiotou, the trust's CEO, said Burrow's legacy "continues to shape the values we hold dear across our Trust—care, aspiration, and success". "The Rob Burrow Fitness Suite and the inaugural Trust Rugby League Varsity Tournament are fitting tributes to a man who has given so much to the world of sport and beyond," he added.
