Fashion Highlights from the Latest NALA Collection
The 2025 Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs), in collaboration with Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe's Africa Fashion International (AFI), celebrated the intersection of music and fashion over the weekend.
The highly anticipated 'new template for award shows' was brought to life in style.
The show featured the latest NALA|Privé collection. This collection honoured the tradition of Black Dandyism through contemporary, avant-garde designs that played with proportion, texture and cultural symbolism.
Designed by the AFI's in-house atelier led by the 2023/24 AFI Fastrack Prize winner, Loice Dube, the collection features bold colours, exaggerated silhouettes and meticulous tailoring that reference the Black Dandyism movement's history while pushing it firmly into the future.

Various public figures showed up draped in the NALA|Privé collection, bringing to life what Mapakgole, a fashion and retail creative, dubbed as 'a powerful statement about contemporary African aesthetics while honouring our rich sartorial heritage'.

DURBAN was abuzz during July, known as Film Month, when the industry recorded milestones and honoured its shining stars. 'We saw a deliberate crossover between leisure and the creative sector. 'Early indicators reveal that this was one of the most vibrant Julys in recent memory for KZN, drawing tourists and boosting local economies. Tens of thousands of visitors descended on Durban for the Hollywoodbets Durban July, a major crowd-puller on Africa's social calendar. We used Film Month to show the world what KZN can do – from beach to bush, from cinema to celebration – and the response has been extraordinary,' added Motsepe. 'Film Month was more than an industry activation, it was a province-wide celebration that brought together leisure, culture, business and heritage. Durban's streets buzzed with visitors, cinemas came alive with new voices, and red carpets were rolled out for local legends and future stars. Who will represent South Africa at Miss Universe?
Miss SA organisers have postponed their 2025 edition to 'a later date' in the year, pending a rebranding under new management. What does this mean for the Miss Universe pageant, which takes place in less than three months' time? With Miss SA indefinitely postponed, pageant fans are eager to know who will represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant, which takes place on 21 November in Thailand. Should a new queen be crowned, they will undoubtedly have less time to prepare for the international competition. Pageant enthusiast and YouTuber Rina Hendriks told The South African : 'It is difficult to say who, if anyone, will represent South Africa. The Miss South Africa organisers have not been forthcoming when they have been confronted with questions of whether or not they even still hold the Miss Universe license to send a candidate there. 'In 2023, they got rid of the Miss World license without releasing a statement to the public. 'If they do, however, still hold the license for Miss Universe, then it is possible that they may still have the Miss South Africa 2025 pageant before Miss Universe starts in November. 'If the Miss South Africa Organisation does not host a pageant before November, it is always possible for them to appoint someone, likely the runner-up from 2024, or someone else who has not previously competed at Miss Universe'. If a new Miss SA is not crowned in time for Miss Universe, it's unlikely reigning queen Mia Le Roux will compete again. Last year, the partially-deaf winner dropped out of the competition during the preliminary stages, citing health reasons. Chidimma mocks news of Miss SA organisation 'downfall'?
Chidimma Adetshina, the South African-born Miss Universe runner-up, is laughing off news that the Miss SA pageant has been postponed and is under new management. The news comes days after pageant CEO Stephanie Weil resigned from her post. In the past year, the Cape Town model – whose father is Nigerian, and whose mother is Mozambican – has been the target of a Home Affairs investigation. Last year, Chidimma stepped down from her position as Miss SA finalist. A few weeks later, she won the title of Miss Universe Nigeria and competed at the international pageant, where she was crowned runner-up. In a press statement posted on pageant fanpage @misssafandom, the Miss SA organisation announced that the finale would be postponed from August to a later date in 2025. This was one to 'ensure the alignment with international and other global events.' Since Stephanie Weil stepped down as CEO, the pageant has been taken under the wing of Africa Fashion International, which has vowed to 'embark on this strategic journey together, leveraging our unique strengths to drive growth and innovation.' In the comments section, pageant fans were mostly unsurprised by the news, given the delay in announcing the Top 30. Also commenting was Chidimma Adetshina, who posted a meme of a man suppressing a smile. When one follower accused the pageant queen of being 'petty,' she responded, 'I'm just smiling. Earlier this year, Rungo was arrested and charged with violating the Immigration and Identification Act. She has since been released on bail.
