Govt seeks public inputs for Viksit Maha 2047 via survey

Time of India22-06-2025
Nagpur: Maharashtra govt has launched a statewide citizen survey to collect public opinion for the preparation of 'Viksit Maharashtra 2047' vision document.
The initiative is part of a 150-day programme led by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, aimed at shaping a long-term development roadmap for the state in alignment with the national India@2047 goal.
The survey, officially inaugurated on June 17, encourages citizens to share their views on development priorities across 16 key sectors for which seven questions are to be answered on WhatsApp chatbot. These include agriculture, education, health, rural and urban development, land and water resources, infrastructure, finance, industry, services, social development, security, soft power, technology, and human resource management.
Citizens can participate in the survey by scanning QR code displayed on official banners or by visiting the link: https://wa.link/o93s9m. The planning department has clarified that no personal information will be collected during the process.
The vision document aims to guide Maharashtra toward becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2029 and a $5 trillion economy by 2047. Departments have been directed to set short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals, focusing on progress, sustainability, inclusivity, and good governance.
Experts and organisations from both govt and non-govt sectors will also be involved in drafting sector-wise plans.
The campaign falls under the broader framework of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the national movement marking 100 years of India's independence in 2047. It emphasizes citizen engagement as a cornerstone for planning and decision-making.
The chief minister has directed all district collectors, commissioners, and local officials to ensure public participation by promoting the survey at key locations. The govt believes that the input of citizens is essential in creating a development agenda that reflects real ground-level needs and aspirations. Residents across Maharashtra are urged to take part in this opportunity to help shape the future of the state.

Days after after passage of Public Security Bill, Maharashtra CM Fadnavis to inaugurate iron ore projects in Gadchiroli

Over a week after the state government passed the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill to tackle left-wing extremism, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is slated to inaugurate a slew of projects in Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district on Tuesday. The chief minister will inaugurate the first phase of the 5-Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) iron ore grinding plant and a 10 MTPA slurry pipeline project – the first operational iron ore slurry pipeline in the state – at Hedri in Gadchiroli. CM Fadnavis will also lay the foundation stone for several projects, including a 4.5 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant at Konsari, a 100-bed multispeciality hospital, a school, and a 116-acre Lloyds Township in the Naxal-affected region. Government sources said the 85-km-long slurry pipeline will establish a seamless and environment-friendly logistics link between Hedri and a pellet plant at Konsari, ensuring reliable ore transportation while lowering the carbon footprint by 55 per cent. In a remarkable development, the grinding plant, constructed by the Lloyds Metals & Energy Limited (LMEL), has employed 65 former Naxals – 27 in the administration department, 29 in civil/construction, and nine in the mechanical department. The facility was readied in a year. B Prabhakaran, Managing Director, LMEL, said, '22nd July, 2025, is going to be recorded in the history of Gadchiroli as well as Maharashtra in golden letters… After successful green operations of iron ore mines at Surjagarh, commissioning of the DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) plant and pellet plant at Konsari, now a giant leap of faith is being taken in the form of an integrated steel plant.'

"Speak In Marathi": Fight Over Seat In Mumbai Local Turns Into Language Row

Mumbai: A seemingly small fight over a seat in a Mumbai local train escalated into a full-blown language row earlier this week, with one woman telling the other to learn Marathi or "get out". The incident took place on Friday evening in a crowded ladies' coach of the train running on the Central line. A video of the incident went viral on social media, in which six to seven women can be seen arguing over a seat - something that is not strange to a Mumbai local. However, during this time, one woman criticised another passenger for not speaking in Marathi. "If you want to stay in our Mumbai, speak Marathi, otherwise get out," she told her. Soon after, other women in the train also joined the debate. According to officials, the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police are investigating the incident. This comes amid the ongoing language row in Maharashtra, with Raj Thackeray's MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) party workers being criticised for their continuous targeting and confrontation of people not speaking in Marathi. Earlier this week, a shopkeeper in Mumbai's Vikhroli was assaulted by MNS workers over a WhatsApp status deemed offensive to the Marathi-speaking community. The video shows the shopkeeper being forced to apologise publicly while being threatened and physically attacked. On July 1, MNS workers in Thane slapped a street food vendor for refusing to converse in Marathi. In another incident, a migrant auto-rickshaw driver in Maharashtra's Palghar district was assaulted in full public view by MNS and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) supporters. MNS workers also vandalised businessman Sushil Kedia's office in Mumbai, days after he vowed not to learn Marathi. The incident was captured on camera, in which five to six supporters of Raj Thackeray can be seen throwing what looked like bricks at the office. A security personnel rushed in to stop the attack, but they only stopped after emptying the bags. The businessman later issued an apology.
