Civic body cracks down on unlicensed eateries in Rjnr
On Wednesday, a team of GHMC officials, led by Deputy Commissioner K Ravi Kumar, visited a tiffin centre at Attapur junction. After inquiries about its permissions yielded no satisfactory answers, the shop was promptly shut down by the officials.
'Upon receiving no satisfactory answer to our queries regarding a trade licence and other permissions, we immediately closed the tiffin centre,' stated K Ravi Kumar, Deputy Commissioner GHMC Rajendranagar.
The Deputy Commissioner added that, besides the tiffin centre, they discovered that the footpath at the same location had been encroached upon by a pan-shop. Vehicles parked in front of these establishments were also significantly disrupting traffic flow.
GHMC officials issued a stern warning to all businesses operating without a trade licence, emphasising that such offences would lead to strict action, including both penalties and sentences under the GHMC Act.
However, GHMC officials did not disclose the total number of illegal establishments identified in Rajendranagar that are currently operating without proper licences and other permissions.
Meanwhile, numerous complaints are flooding in from various areas concerning footpath encroachments and the parking of heavy vehicles in the narrow streets of residential colonies within the Attapur area. Hawkers, including fruit and vegetable vendors, have been observed encroaching on footpaths, obstructing easy passage on both sides of the main road at the bustling Attapur junction. Residents within the colonies are also complaining about transport vehicles being parked on already narrowed public roads in residential areas.
Furthermore, several multi-storey buildings are being constructed without any provision for parking space, which, once occupied, is expected to exacerbate parking issues.
Anil Kumar explained the growing inconvenience faced by residents in several colonies due to regular traffic congestion in Attapur, noting, 'Encroachments on footpaths by food courts and other eateries, along with vehicles parked on roads, are leading to regular traffic congestion in the Attapur area.' He also highlighted that the construction of multi-storey buildings without parking provisions is compounding the problem, creating a 'messy and unwholesome situation.'
Mohd Kareem, a resident of Khaja Nagar in Attapur, said, 'Several owners have rented out their buildings for commercial establishments like event management units and other suppliers in Khaja Nagar, leading to frequent road blockades inside the residential area.' He further stated that the daily entry of heavy vehicles and their parking for hours on already narrowed colony roads are resulting in regular traffic congestion and even disputes among the colony inhabitants.

Govt launches portal to improve coordination among city depts
1 2 3 Guwahati: City dwellers will no longer experience inconvenience due to a lack of coordination among govt departments during development works. State govt on Tuesday launched a dedicated portal to bring road-cutting agencies and road-owning departments onto a single platform, ensuring better coordination, increased accountability, and greater transparency. Housing and urban affairs minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, while launching the portal 'Path Samanway', said the portal will also enable the public to monitor the status and progress of ongoing work in real time. Speaking at a press conference, the minister said, "Today, we have launched an app and website named 'Path Samanvay'. This app is for coordination among various departments during the execution of public works like digging for a gas pipeline. From now onwards, every agency will apply for NOC online and will get the permission online. This will remain in the public domain. After closure, they will have to take a completion certificate. " The development of the app and the portal is an initiative of the Kamrup (Metro) district administration. He added that whoever violates the system would be fined under the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Act. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo "The contractor will have to give a closure report. This is an integrated system. Whoever violates it will be fined under the DDMA Act," he added. The minister said a lack of coordination among departments was an issue, as a result of which a road is often dug up after a road-owning agency repairs it. "This does not only create inconvenience to the people but also impacts funds," he added. Mallabaruah said the mechanism has been developed for the Kamrup (Metro) district for now, and a similar system will soon be introduced in other parts of the state.

Desilting and Restoration of Chilavannoor, Market canals to begin shortly
The desilting and restoration work on the Chilavannoor Canal, worth ₹8.40 crore, is set to get under way shortly under the Integrated Urban Regeneration and Water Transport System (IURWTS). The restoration of the Market Canal is also likely to begin shortly. The work has already been tendered and will be executed using ₹28.77 crore allotted by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The State Cabinet, in May, gave its nod for implementing the IURWTS in Kochi, aimed at reviving six canals, at a revised estimate of ₹3,716.10 crore. The project is intended to make the canals navigable and provide a lasting solution to flooding in the city during the rainy season. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) will continue as the special-purpose vehicle for the initiative, while the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has been appointed as the implementation agency for the sewerage components. Funding for the project will be ensured through the KIIFB and the National River Conservation Directorate. Mayor M. Anilkumar said the works launched under the canal rejuvenation programme were making rapid progress. 'The Kochi Corporation and KMRL will jointly organise a review meeting of the project, which will also be attended by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve. The main objectives of the project include strengthening the water transport system, landscaping and constructing walkways along the canal banks, removing accumulated silt to improve water quality, and restoring water flow and the aquatic ecosystem,' he added. The construction of a higher-capacity sewage treatment plant at Elamkulam is set to get under way shortly. The KWA is the executing agency for the project, which is estimated at ₹341.97 crore. 'A proposal for the beautification of the Chilavannoor Canal banks — including a walkway and seating arrangements — had been submitted to the KIIFB for approval,' said Mr. Anilkumar. Runoff from around the Kaloor International Stadium eventually reaches the Chilavannoor Canal. The bridge along Subhash Chandra Bose Road is narrow, and ₹4.71 crore has been allocated for its reconstruction. The work has been re-tendered as the amount quoted in the initial tender was higher than estimated. The construction of Bund Road has been completed at a cost of ₹38.17 crore. 'Works worth around ₹100 crore are likely to be completed this year, and the rest of the project estimated at ₹3,716 crore could be completed in a couple of years,' said Mr. Anilkumar. 'Sewage outlets draining into canals will be completely sealed helping to prevent the accumulation of silt and reducing the need for frequent desilting. Waterlogging will be addressed to a great extent sparing the city from mosquito infestations. Canal tourism projects are also expected to become a reality. Canal rejuvenation is the second biggest project in Kochi after the resolution of the waste management issue at Brahmapuram,' he added.

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ) decided to reuse, refurbish, and utilise over 100 existing RCC toilets, e-toilets, and bio-toilets in the Secunderabad zone. The civic body invited 'expressions of interest' from safai karamchari registered bodies under the Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model to adopt a pay-and-use system for 10 years. The agency needs to reconstruct toilets with amenities, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and lighting works.
