I'd return to Switzerland. My partner [Carly Turnbull, a wardrobe supervisor for West End shows] and I went there a year or two ago, and it was just the most magical experience I've ever had. You've got to remember that being from the UK, we're starved of mountains. The concept of mountains is so surreal to us in the UK — to me, anyway — so when my partner and I saw them for the first time, it was crazy. It was absolutely crazy. It was just an amazing time. The driving was incredible, the views were incredible, the food was amazing, we went up mountains, we went tobogganing … such a beautiful time.

I prefer doing it by myself. I think you get more ownership, and you can cater to your own needs much easier.

Thoughts on an 'unplugged' vacation?
If you think that's an ingredient that is necessary for the vacation, then absolutely. Hopefully, most vacations are more unplugged than when you are just at home or working because you're having an amazing experience.
What has been your worst vacation experience?
I've been very blessed to say that I haven't had one. I remember one for my mum, though. When we were kids, we went to a campsite and long story short, we booked a caravan [camper] that was covered in bugs. I was so young that I don't really remember. I was just playing outside all the time, but my mum was fighting off millipedes and mold and cockroaches.
What is your favorite childhood travel memory?
I was probably about 16 or 17, so maybe not childhood, but my family and I went to Disney World in Florida. And as cliche as it sounds, it was just everything that we hoped it would be. We booked it two years in advance, and I was counting down every single day. It got to the point where people in my class would ask, 'how many days, Sam?' And I would say '391,' like the weird little boy that I was.
Do you vacation to relax, to learn, or for the adventure of it all?
If you don't do all three, I would say it's a missed opportunity. I'm always trying to go to a museum or to learn about the culture where I am.

What book do you plan on bringing with you to read on your next vacation?
The one that I have read loads is the 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' series by Sarah J. Maas. I've read all of them and they were just fantastic.
If you could travel with one famous person/celebrity, who would it be?
Other than with my family, I would probably like to travel with someone really profound — probably the late playwright Noël Coward. I did 'Dear Evan Hansen' in the Noël Coward Theatre in London and it was a life-changing event for me. I saw photos of him and autobiographies of him everywhere. And I felt quite connected to him at that certain point in my life, so I would like to maybe go on holiday with him and just chat with him about his experiences.
What is the best gift to give a traveler?
Probably a first aid kit. If you do need it, it could be lifesaving. And if you don't, that means you had a great trip.
What is your go-to snack for a flight or a road trip?
Crisps, like chips. I'm not much of a sweets or candy guy; I prefer savory.
What is the coolest souvenir you've picked up on a vacation?
When I was a kid, I went to Lanzarote [one of the Canary Islands off the north coast of Africa that is known for its volcanic landscape] and I picked up a bit of volcano, just from the ground. I remember that felt so rebellious and so cool. I brought it to school and all the kids were going crazy for it.

What is your favorite app/website for travel?
I think Reddit's really good. There's great sort of threads for places where you want to go. Do's and Don'ts on YouTube is also a great one. Before I came to Boston, I watched three videos on the Do's and Don'ts of Boston as a Brit.
What has travel taught you?
Travel taught me perspective. I'd also say privilege. I'm very fortunate to live in and to come from a country where tourism is huge all year round and not just seasonal.
What is your best travel tip?
Stay hydrated. Drink water and wear sunscreen, regardless of the weather!

‘Bachelor in Paradise's Sam McKinney and Alli Jo Hinkes Are Dating

It's no secret that, thus far, Bachelor in Paradise season 10 has been kind of a letdown. Despite the addition of the Goldens, the beach has been plagued by awkward drama (*ahem* Justin Glaze), but there hasn't really been a stand-out couple to root for—until now. Bachelor in Paradise's Sam McKinney and Alli Jo Hinkes are officially dating, making them one of the first official couples to come out of BiP season 10. Kinda. Here's the thing: Despite both appearing on Bachelor in Paradise this summer, Sam and Alli Jo didn't get together on the show. In fact, they didn't even overlap in Paradise at all. Sam arrived in Costa Rica on Day 1 of BiP season 10 only to be sent right back home at the first rose ceremony. Alli Jo's journey in Paradise was equally short—she arrived Week 2 and went home that very same week. They both left BiP single, but obviously, they didn't stay that way for long! Sam and Alli Jo publicly announced their romance on Instagram Tuesday, July 29, in a joint post. 'Sometimes... You gotta do it your damn self,' Sam captioned the carousel of photos, which showed the couple engaging in some pretty serious PDA. 'Be a force and #StayRelentless.' Alli Jo got even more pointed, commenting, 'Didn't need a beach to find my paradise ❤️ main thing energy baby!' It's unclear when, exactly, this romance began. Were they in a hotel together prior to (or after) filming? Was this just another case of the insulated Bachelor Nation social scene working its magic? We don't know yet, but whatever happened, it looks like they have their fellow Bachelor alums' support. 'It happened?!?!?!' BiP host Jesse Palmer commented on the post, followed by three heart eye emojis. Fellow BiP season 10 alum Kathy Swarts then joked, 'If you want something done the right way, do it yourself 😂😍.' Bachelor alum Susie Evans, who had a short (but dramatic) run on BiP herself this season, added, 'Crying in the club over here 🫶 love this for y'all.' And Juliana Pasquarosa, who appeared on Grant Ellis' Bachelor season alongside Alli Jo, also weighed in. 'The main thing is officially the main thing bb,' she wrote. Happy for you two!

"The Choice is CLEar," says airport that also hosts CLEAR

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport this week launched a new marketing campaign highlighting its marquee nonstop destinations. Tagline: "The choice is CLEar." What they're saying: It "drives home that CLE is the clear choice for business and leisure travelers with 126 daily departures to 40 nonstop destinations," said Megan O'Connell, Hopkins' new assistant director of marketing, in a press release. Zoom in: Video ads in the series invite travelers to " Skedaddle to Seattle," " Take off to Toronto" and " Depart for Dublin." 💭 Sam's thought bubble: Two quick notes, as I rewatch the "We Here for You" interlude from "Succession." 1. The eternal "CLE" wordplay admittedly makes more sense for Hopkins than it does for the city of Cleveland — CLE being the airport's IATA airport code. 2. Not that anyone would be legitimately confused by this, but Hopkins is also home to CLEAR, the private company that uses biometric data as a kind of TSA fast pass. For $189 per year, travelers can dash through airport security via dedicated lanes.

10 BookTok Romantasy Reads To Read Right Now

If you're even mildly online, chances are you've heard whispers of the ✨ romantasy✨ genre; the magical literary genre that blends fantasy and romance together and has BookTok in a literal chokehold. If you're into… 1. From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout ✨ "Nothing is ever simple when the gods are watching." ✨This is the book that launched a thousand obsessions. Poppy is a badass heroine sworn to a sacred destiny, until a smirking golden-eyed guard ruins everything. Expect: deadly secrets, enemies-to-lovers tension, and one hell of a plot twist. Perfect for fans of steamy slow-burns and morally gray men. 2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas 🧚 Beauty and the Beast meets 1000+ fan theories and wingspans. 🧚If you're on BookTok, you know that this is just the start of everyone's romantasy journey. Feyre is a mortal huntress dragged into the fae lands, and that's just the beginning. This series has everything: epic romance, ancient curses, court politics, and "the mating bond." Once you meet Rhysand, it's over for you.(Honestly, anything written by Sarah J. Maas will become an obsession and key part of your personality...I don't make the rules. 🤷‍♀️) 3. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros 🐉 Think Hunger Games meets spicy dragon school. 🐉If you've ever wanted to ride dragons while navigating deadly exams, secret powers, and off-limits lovers, this is your book. Violet may not be physically built like a warrior, but she's no damsel, and her enemies? Yeah, they might be her only shot at surviving. 4. The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen 🗡️ A princess assassin forced to marry the enemy king. What could go wrong? 🗡️This one is for the "stab him, then kiss him" folks. Lara is trained to destroy the man she's forced to marry, but the longer she spends with him, the more she questions everything. Expect slow-burn, political intrigue, and intense emotional payoff. 5. Radiance by Grace Draven 👑 An arranged marriage between a human and a monstrous fae prince…with zero insta-love. 👑This underrated gem is soft, slow, and swoony. Ildiko and Brishen aren't beautiful (or even really nice) to each first. But their respect, banter, and trust build one of the most wholesome (and still hot!) love stories in romantasy. 6. Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin 🧙‍♀️ A witch and a witch hunter are forced to marry. Cue the chaos. 🧙‍♀️Lou is chaotic and sassy; Reid is stiff and serious. Watching them clash (and then burn) is half the fun. If you like morally complex worlds with forbidden romance, magic, and cinnamon-roll-turned-problematic men, grab this. 7. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black 🖤 Welcome to Elfhame, where lies are currency and love is war. 🖤 Jude Duarte is a human raised in the cruel fae court, and she's out for power. Cardan is the arrogant, hateful prince who can't stop watching her. It's toxic. It's soooo BookTok. And it' 8. The Savage Lands series by Stacey Marie Brown 🌶️ If you like the ACOTAR vibe but grittier and steamier, this one's for you. 🌶️It's set in a post-war world where fae rule and humans are barely surviving. Brexley (yes, icon name) is thrown into a deadly prison where survival means making alliances, especially with the dangerously beautiful fae warrior who might be her enemy…or her only shot at freedom. 9. The Crowns of Nyaxia series by Carissa Broadbent 🧛‍♀️ Hunger Games meets vampire court meets epic love story. 🧛‍♀️ (Clearly, I love the Hunger Games a bit too much.) Oraya is a human adopted by the vampire god of death, and now she has to fight to survive the Kejari, a brutal tournament full of monsters, politics, and betrayal. Enter: a mysterious rival with secrets and sharp teeth. The tension? Unmatched. 10. The Married to Magic series by Elise Kova 🧝‍♂️ Fantasy marriage of convenience, soft cinnamon roll magic warrior elf king, and cozy romance vibes. 🧝‍♂️Each book in this series is a standalone with a fresh couple and setting, but they're all connected by a magical world and super romantic plots. In A Deal With the Elf King, a human girl is taken to the fae realm as the next "Human Queen," and her icy elf king husband is not ready to fall in love…until he very much does. BONUS: If You're Craving Something Spicier… What other romantasy books would you add to the list? Let me know in the comments!
