Andhra Pradesh to woo Kitex Garments for investment after Telangana
Andhra Pradesh Textiles Minister S Savitha will arrive in Kochi on Saturday to visit the headquarters of Kitex Garments – the second largest producer of children's garments in the world – in Kizhakkambalam. According to reports, the minister will hand over an invitation from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to Sabu, inviting him to Amaravati for a personal meeting.
'Currently, we don't have any plan for industrial investment in Andhra Pradesh. But it seems the chief minister is very keen to attract investment to Andhra Pradesh. Let's see what message the minister brings,' said Sabu.
Kitex Garments had presented a Rs 3,500-crore investment proposal at the Ascend Global Investment Meet organised by the Kerala government in 2020. However, Sabu withdrew from the project following alleged harassment by the state government.

PM Modi also welcomed the united condemnation by BRICS members of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. 'On the session on Peace and Security, the Honourable Prime Minister underlined that terrorism was a grave threat facing humanity. In this context, he noted that all the leaders have condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack in the strongest terms. He underlined that the terror attack is an onslaught on the entire humanity. He also noted that those funding, promoting and providing safe havens to terrorists must be dealt with in the harshest terms,' Ravi said. Ahead of PM Modi's visit to Bihar, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will inaugurate rail projects worth over Rs 17 crore in Bihar on Monday. He will also lay the foundation for the upgradation of Karpoori Gram Railway Station. Telangana CM launches Vanamahotsavam 2025, sets green and women empowerment goals
Hyderabad, July 7 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, along with Forest Minister Konda Surekha, officially inaugurated Vanamahotsavam 2025 by planting a Rudraksha sapling at Professor Jayashankar Agricultural University today. Marking the beginning of the state's annual plantation drive, the Chief Minister emphasised the deep-rooted connection between people and forests. 'Our elders have said — we are the forest, and the forest is us. If we protect nature, nature will protect us,' he said. The state government has set an ambitious target of planting 18 crore saplings this year. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, the Chief Minister urged people to plant a sapling in the name of their mother and encouraged mothers to do the same in the names of their children. 'Plant at least two saplings in every house and nurture them like your own children,' he appealed, adding that such efforts could transform Telangana into a lush green state. Beyond environmental concerns, the Chief Minister also reiterated his government's strong commitment to women's empowerment. 'Our government is empowering women by entrusting them with key responsibilities — from managing solar plants to running government schools,' he said. Highlighting several initiatives, he noted that women now enjoy free travel in RTC buses, and the government has facilitated the leasing of 1,000 buses by women, making them owners and entrepreneurs. In Hi-Tech City, marketing platforms have been created for products developed by women's self-help groups, especially in areas dominated by global tech giants like Wipro and Microsoft. 'We aim to make one crore women millionaires in Telangana,' Revanth Reddy declared. The government has already disbursed Rs 21,000 crore in loans to women's groups this year, and he called on urban women to join self-help groups to seize these opportunities. He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to uplifting girls and women through education, financial independence, and representation. 'Under Indiramma Rajyam, girls will live with dignity. We are also preparing to implement women's reservation in the Assembly. I take full responsibility for ensuring 60 MLA seats are given to women in the next elections,' he promised. The event was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF) Dr Suvarna, CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, MP Mallu Ravi, along with MLAs, MLCs, Corporation Chairpersons, and senior officials from the Forest Department. The Nifty Auto and Nifty IT indices slipped into negative territory, trading at around 23,949 and 39,004, respectively, in the morning session. The 90-day pause on US President Donald Trump's proposed tariff hike is set to expire on July 9, with the new elevated rates expected to come into effect on August 1. So far, India and the US have not announced any formal trade pact. On July 5, President Trump said that the US would send formal letters to 10–12 countries outlining new reciprocal tariffs. Describing these as 'take it or leave it" offers, he said the letters would be dispatched by July 7 and the final rollout would conclude by July 9. 'The money is going to come to the United States from August 1," Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews. Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India would not rush into any agreement due to external deadlines. 'India does not enter into any trade agreement based on deadlines. We will sign a deal with the US only when it is fully finalised, properly concluded, and in the national interest," Goyal stated. 10% Tariff on BRICS Allies Announced Adding to market anxiety, Trump also announced plans to impose an additional 10% tariff on countries aligning with what he termed the 'anti-American policies of BRICS"—just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the BRICS summit. In response, BRICS nations issued a joint statement expressing 'serious concerns" over rising unilateral tariffs and their adverse effects on the global economy. India has already notified the World Trade Organization of its intent to impose retaliatory tariffs in response to Washington's 25% duty on automobiles and auto parts, which could impact $2.89 billion worth of Indian exports. Export-driven sectors bore the brunt of these developments. Maruti Suzuki shares fell over 1% to Rs 12,510, while Bharat Forge dropped nearly 1%. Tata Motors also traded in the red. In the IT pack, Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, and HCL Tech slipped up to 2%. Infosys, Wipro, TCS, and Persistent Systems saw marginal losses. Analysts noted that the weakening US dollar and concerns over delayed outsourcing decisions could weigh on IT firms, given their heavy dependence on the US market. 'With the tariff deadline nearing, all eyes are on the anticipated US–India trade deal. Market participants remain optimistic about a favorable resolution, which could serve as a key catalyst for the next leg of the market's upward trajectory," said Bajaj Broking. Harshal Dasani, Business Head at INVasset PMS, stated, 'The mood across Dalal Street is far from celebratory. Both Nifty Auto and Nifty IT indices slipped into the red in early trade, signaling investor caution around sectors directly exposed to Donald Trump's latest tariff regime." He further cautioned that with auto components facing a 25% duty under Section 232 and no exemptions in place, companies like Bharat Forge, Motherson, and Tata Motors are at risk of margin pressure and demand delays from US-based OEMs. 'For IT, the concerns are more indirect—ranging from delays in outsourcing decisions to potential visa restrictions. And while pharma may be insulated, for now, the threat of non-tariff barriers looms large under Trump's 'reciprocal tariff doctrine,'" Dasani concluded.
