CM slams Centre's vindictive move over textbook revision

Time of Indiaa day ago
Kozhikode: CM
Pinarayi Vijayan
, on Monday, launched a sharp attack against the Centre, accusing it of adopting a vindictive stance towards
Kerala
for resisting its saffronization agenda and opposing attempts to make changes in textbooks according to the same agenda.
Inaugurating the students' rally and public meeting as part of SFI's 18th national conference, he said that Centre's new education policy, which poses a threat to the country and misleads future generations, is unacceptable.
Vijayan alleged that Centre was trying to saffronize education and as part of that agenda, efforts were being made to distort history by adding some chapters into textbooks. "While efforts are being made to rewrite history, some people are openly coming out against the Constitution.
Moves are being made to destroy the democratic system and demands are being made to change the core principles of the Constitution," he said.
Vijayan said RSS had no role in the freedom struggle and asserted that this historical truth was inconvenient for the BJP-led Centre. "That is why they are trying to rewrite history and glorify figures like Savarkar to distort history. Alterations have been made in textbooks so that the true picture of the freedom struggle is not reflected," he said, adding that Savarkar had betrayed India's freedom struggle.

Vijayan said Kerala refused to follow Centre's directives to revise textbooks in line with its ideological preferences. "We decided to restore the chapters that were deleted. It is this refusal that led the Centre to adopt a vengeful approach against the state," he said.
Vijayan also highlighted the achievements of LDF govt and added that during its nine-year rule, Kerala saw significant progress in higher education. "Three state universities are now ranked among the top 12 in the country and 16 colleges are among the top 100," he said.

‘No press, no speculations': Congress douses CM buzz in Karnataka; DK Shivakumar warns aides of disciplinary action

BENGALURU: Amid rumblings within Karnataka Congress , the party's central leadership Tuesday spiked speculation about a change in leadership and deputy CM DK Shivakumar categorically stated that there's no discussion on leadership. "No one is in a hurry, 2028 is important to us," Shivakumar, also president of Karnataka unit, said. All India Congress Committee general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, in Bengaluru on a firefighting mission, said, "There is no question of leadership change. If you (MLAs) want to settle scores, then raise it with the head of the family. In a party, it is the PCC president; in govt, it is CM. What we deliberate within the party should remain in the party," he added. Hours later, Shivakumar said disciplinary action would be taken against those making public statements suggesting a shift in power. "I'll issue a notice to Iqbal Hussain (Ramanagara MLA and an aide of Shivakumar). I don't want anyone to say I'll become CM. Today or tomorrow, I'll issue a notice to him. I also don't want Balakrishna to speak in my favour," he said. Shivakumar responded firmly: "No one should go to the press. I'm saying it, no press. I'm saying it, whether it is Iqbal Hussain or BR Patil or Balakrishna or anyone else, there is no need. Siddaramaiah is the CM, strengthening his and our govt's hands is the only priority.". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo There has been long-standing speculation about a rotational chief ministership formula between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, though the party has never confirmed it. The leadership tussle had been set aside after the May 2023 election results. Surjewala hinted at internal party changes, though. "We'll definitely look at changing district Congress committee office-bearers if they are not cooperating with govt in taking guarantee and welfare schemes to the people." Later in the day, senior Congress MLA Raju Kage, who recently threatened to resign over being sidelined, met Surjewala and flagged administrative lapses in the state govt and fund allocation. "I've informed Surjewala about the issues. He has assured me a solution will be worked out," Kage told reporters after the meeting. Kage, who represents Kagwad, had earlier accused the govt of sabotage and corruption, warning that he would quit within 48 hours. 'Threats to national security': US charges two Chinese nationals with spying; slams Beijing for trying to 'infiltrate military'

The United States on Wednesday charged two Chinese nationals with spying for Beijing. The charges include photographing a naval base, arranging a secret cash drop, and attempting to recruit US military personnel they believed could be persuaded to assist Chinese intelligence. "This case underscores the Chinese government's sustained and aggressive effort to infiltrate our military and undermine our national security from within,' attorney general Pam Bondi was quoted saying in a statement by AP. 'The Justice Department will not stand by while hostile nations embed spies in our country -- we will expose foreign operatives, hold their agents to account, and protect the American people from covert threats to our national security,' Bondi said. Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, said he was unaware of the details of the case but dismissed the claims against China as baseless, saying there were 'no facts or evidence' to support them. He also accused the US of consistently conducting espionage operations against China. What are the charges against the two? Authorities have charged two men, Yuance Chen, 38, a Chinese national who came to the US on a visa in 2015 and later gained permanent residency, and Liren 'Ryan' Lai, 39, who lives in China but visited Texas earlier this year to oversee covert operations for China's Ministry of State Security (MSS). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Adidas Three Shorts With 60% Discount, Limited Stock Available Original Adidas Shop Now Undo Prosecutors say Lai began cultivating Chen as an intelligence asset as early as mid-2021. Together, they allegedly coordinated the transfer of at least $10,000 in cash through a secret dead-drop, conducted surveillance of a Navy recruiting station in California and a naval base in Washington state, including taking and transmitting photos to Chinese intelligence, and sought to identify and recruit US navy personnel to spy for China. Chen is accused of gathering personal details about Navy recruits, particularly those with ties to China, and sharing that information with Chinese handlers to assess potential espionage prospects. Both were arrested for allegedly acting on behalf of Beijing without registering as foreign agents with the US justice department, as required by law.

Only man in fray, Bindal re-elected as Himachal BJP chief for 3rd term

Dr Rajiv Bindal was on Tuesday elected unopposed as the Himachal Pradesh BJP chief for a third term Tuesday. In the elections held Monday, Bindal was the only party leader to file nomination papers for the post. Formally declaring the results, Union minister Jitendra Singh took a swipe at the Congress. 'In their party, leadership decisions are made in kitchens and over dining tables. In contrast, the BJP follows democratic principles where even an ordinary worker can rise to the top,' Jitendra Singh said. Bindal's reappointment as state unit chief for a third term 'reflects the confidence of the organization in his leadership and ability to strengthen the party at the grassroots,' he added. Hamirpur MP and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur said Bindal's appointment would energize the party. He claimed that if elections were held today, Congress wouldn't win even eight seats in state. He also slammed the Congress government for administrative collapse and internal conflict. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur too criticised the Congress for failing to appoint office-bearers for nine months and for stalling development in the state. BJP state in-charge Srikant Sharma said the party now has 18 lakh members in Himachal and is committed to making every booth strong under the 'Mera Booth Sabse Mazboot' campaign. Bindal, on assuming the office, called on the party workers to work dedicatedly to oust the 'corrupt and untruthful government'. 'I will work 24×7 with the motto of nation first as the next two years are very challenging,' he said urging workers to pledge unity and rise above personal interests. His mission, Bindal said, is to ensure that 'lotus' blooms in Himachal Pradesh again. He said that due to their commitment to the welfare of people former BJP chief ministers Shanta Kumar, Prem Kumar Dhumal and Jai Ram Thakur are remembered as 'Paniwala, Sadakwala and Sewawala' chief ministers. Bindal said the party had led in 61 out of 68 Assembly segments in the recent Lok Sabha polls. He also highlighted the party's organisational achievements, including enrolling 47,000 active members, increasing the number of mandals from 74 to 171, and constituting committees in 7,775 of the 8,009 polling booths in the state. Bindal remained an MLA from 2002 to 2022, serving five terms. He was thrice elected from Solan and twice from Nahan. He served as the health minister in the Prem Kumar Dhumal-led government from 2007 to 2012. He was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 13th Vidhan Sabha In January 2018, and held the post till January 2020. He also had a brief stint as the state BJP chief before being reappointed in April 2023. Meanwhile, former minister Govind Thakur and party general secretaries Bihari Lal Sharma, Trilok Kapoor, Pawan Kajal, Rashmi Dhar Sood, Payal Vaidya, Rajiv Saizal and Sanjeev Katwal were elected as national council members. Jai Ram Thakur; Anurag Thakur; Lok Sabha members Suresh Kashyap, Kangana Ranaut and Rajiv Bharadwaj; and Rajya Sabha members Indu Goswami, Sikender Kumar and Harsh Mahajan were elected as ex-officio members of the national council.
