Air India flight to London aborts takeoff due to technical issue
An Air India flight from Delhi to London was forced to abandon take-off just minutes before it was due to depart on Thursday. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner exited the runway due to a suspected technical issue, according to local reports. In a statement to PTI, an airline spokesperson said: 'Flight AI2017, operating from Delhi to London on July 31, returned to the bay due to a suspected technical issue." 'The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks.' Alternative travel arrangements were made for the passengers, with the airline dispatching another aircraft to fulfil the scheduled flight. Ground staff were also on hand to provide support to passengers. Another Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operated by United Airlines, was forced to make an emergency landing after the plane's turbine stopped working earlier this week. This year has seen multiple plane-related incidents making headlines worldwide, including the tragic Air India plane crash in June. Air India has found itself in hot water following the tragedy, with an aviation watchdog finding 51 safety-related faults at the company during its annual audit. Plane-related incidents in 2025 have included a plane crash in Washington DC which saw 67 die, an aviation disaster in Philadelphia in January, and incidents in Toronto, Alaska, Pennsylvania, and Chicago. On July 13, a plane crash took place at London's Southend airport, though no casualties were reported. The latest crash in Bangladesh saw 19 people lose their lives when an air force training plane crashed into a school campus in capital Dhaka. There is no sign that air travel is becoming more dangerous, with experts maintaining that air travel is still safer than travel by car. The National Safety Council in the US said Americans have a one in 93 chance of dying in a motor accident, while deaths on planes are too rare to calculate.

Zooming in further, UAL has also outpaced the U.S. Global Jets ETF (JETS). The exchange-traded fund has gained about 25.1% over the past year. On Jul. 16, UAL posted its fiscal 2025 second-quarter earnings, and its shares popped 2.4%. It reported revenue of $15.2 billion, up 1.7% year-over-year, and an adjusted EPS of $3.87, beating estimates but down from last year's $4.14. Net income fell 26.4% to $973 million, though premium cabin and loyalty revenues saw healthy growth. Despite trimming its full-year EPS guidance to $9.00–$11.00, United remains optimistic, citing a strong rebound in travel demand and improving booking trends starting mid-July. For the current fiscal year, ending in December, analysts expect UAL's EPS to decline 2.6% to $10.33 on a diluted basis. The company's earnings surprise history is impressive. It beat the consensus estimate in each of the last four quarters. Among the 22 analysts covering UAL stock, the consensus is a 'Strong Buy.' That's based on 19 'Strong Buy' ratings, two 'Moderate Buy,' and one 'Hold.' This configuration is slightly more bullish than three months ago, when it had 18 'Strong Buy' ratings. On July 18, UBS Group AG (UBS) analyst Thomas Wadewitz raised United Airlines' price target from $103 to $114 while maintaining a 'Buy' rating, reflecting continued confidence in the airline's growth potential. The mean price target of $110 represents a 24.6% premium to UAL's current price levels. The Street-high price target of $140 suggests an ambitious upside potential of 58.5%. United Airlines opens the last of its renovated Denver lounges
United has opened the final of three renovated United Clubs at its Denver hub. The latest redeveloped and expanded lounge is located on the west side of Denver's B Concourse in a space that had been closed for the revamp since September 2023. It offers more than 600 seats and takes up 33,000 square feet, making it one of the largest United Clubs. Design flourishes, United said, include regional materials and natural textures designed to evoke the atmosphere of a relaxing cabin in the Rocky Mountains. The airline completed its first Denver United Club renovation, in the airport's Concourse A, in August 2023. The following month the revamped lounge on the east side of the B opened, setting the stage for work to begin on this latest renovation. United also opened a quick service grab-and-go lounge, called Club Fly, in Denver's Concourse A in 2022.
