Jaylon Johnson lands on the Bears' active/non-football injury list
He is one of four players to get that designation, though he, backup quarterback Case Keenum, running back Ian Wheeler and wide receiver Jahdae Walker can return once they pass their physical.
The Bears, who had rookies and quarterbacks report to Halas Hall on Saturday, will hold their first practice Wednesday.
Johnson earned a second consecutive Pro Bowl last season when he made two interceptions, eight pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Johnson's injury is undisclosed.
He was present for much of the team's offseason program
Wheeler is still rehabbing after tearing an ACL in the 2024 preseason, and Keenum spent last season on the Texans' injured reserve list after injuring his foot in the preseason. Walker is an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M.

Bears nearly chose Michigan's J.J. McCarthy over Caleb Williams at No. 1 in 2024 NFL draft
Much like anything with Michigan football and its players, there are a lot of narratives out there that just aren't true. One of them, coming out of the 2023 national championship season, was that quarterback J.J. McCarthy was a 'handoff merchant' and couldn't throw. Yet, he went at No. 10 overall to the Minnesota Vikings in the 2024 NFL draft. It turns out, he almost went higher. The Athletic did a profile on McCarthy and Vikings quarterbacks coach Greg Holcomb revealed that Chicago Bears general manager, Ryan Poles, nearly ended up taking the former Wolverines star with the No. 1 overall pick instead of USC standout and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams. Via The Athletic: (subscription required) 'He was talking about how much they (the Bears) loved J.J.,' Holcomb said. 'And said to me, 'I don't think people realize how close we were to possibly taking him.' Obviously, they love (No. 1 pick) Caleb (Williams), but I thought that was interesting.' McCarthy suffered a season-ending injury in preseason last year but is expected to start this year. He'll have a tough road with the NFC North going from one of the worst divisions in the NFL to one of the strongest, with an ascending Bears team, a powerful Lions squad, and a perennial playoff team in the Packers.

Texas A&M to Big Leagues: Former Aggie southpaw called up to Seattle Mariners
After months of impressive outings in MiLB, a former Texas A&M pitcher earned a call-up to Major League Baseball on Monday. Southpaw reliever Brandyn Garcia was bumped up from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers to the Seattle Mariners. He was selected by the Mariners in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft, following his senior season with the Aggies. In his first season with the High-A Everett AquaSox and Double-A Arkansas Travelers, Garcia recorded a 2.25 ERA with 134 strikeouts in 116.0 innings pitched. His performances on the bump earned him the organization's co-minor league pitcher of the year in 2024. With Garcia being just one of two left-handed relievers and the Mariners bullpen suffering from burnout, the well-earned call-up to the Major Leagues could prove to be beneficial for both parties. The 25-year-old's first appearance on the bump for the Mariners will be his MLB debut. According to MLB Pipeline, Garcia ranks as the top left-handed prospect in the organization and the No. 4 pitching prospect in the system, while also being the No. 13 overall prospect. Through 68 career minor league appearances, he has secured an 11-7 record with seven saves and a 2.49 ERA. Garcia has also struck out 184 hitters and walked just 67, which is good for 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings. Now, he will aim to continue that success at the highest level in baseball with the Mariners organization. Before he put on the Maroon and White uniform for the Aggies, Garcia led Quinnipiac in strikeouts and wins in back-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022. Before transferring to Texas A&M, the lefty posted a 7.15 ERA with 12 starts in 61.2 innings pitched during his time with the Bobcats. Garcia's numbers improved tremendously with the Aggies in 2023, as he secured a 5.56 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 43.2 innings pitched and one save. His 3-3 overall in 27 appearances helped aid Texas A&M to an NCAA Regional appearance, which the program eventually fell flat against the Stanford Cardinal. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Granby, Connecticut, native translated that improvement on the mound during his senior season to the MiLB. With much need for arms in the starting rotation and a relief role, the Mariners organization could place Garcia on the mound in either fashion sooner rather than later. Texas A&M is still 'in play' for 2026 5-star safety out of Mississippi
Texas A&M is still in pursuit of one of the top safety prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, even after landing four-stars Chance Collins and Tylan Wilson this month, as five-star Bralan Womack is set to announce his commitment on August 21, and according to one source, the Aggies remain in the mix despite two teams standing out late. Texas A&M defensive coordinator Jay Bateman and defensive back coach Jordan Peterson have been two of the hottest recruiters in the country this summer, building strong relationships with every linebacker and defensive back commit in the 2026 class. On Monday, 247Sports insider Tom Loy provided more insight on Womack's recruiting journey, stating that while Auburn and Ohio State enter next month with the "most confidence" to land the standout DB, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and Jay Bateman are still clearly in the mix and work overtime behind the scenes. "All four schools remain firmly in the mix. Coach Mike Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman have Texas A&M in play, as discussions continue behind the scenes." Ohio State has received a 247Sports crystal ball prediction to land Womack, which would not be surprising at all, given the program's past success in developing safety prospects, including future first-round NFL draft selection Caleb Downs, who is entering his final season with the Buckeyes. Womack reportedly models his game after Downs, so Ohio State will likely remain the slight leader in his recruitment heading into August. Still, after landing four-star running back KJ Edwards and four-star safety/linebacker Tamarion Watkins, who were previously favored to commit elsewhere, Elko and his staff should never be counted out. According to 247Sports, Womack is currently positioned as the 13th-ranked prospect, the No. 1-ranked safety prospect, and No. 2-ranked prospect in Mississippi.
