A 79-year-old woman intending to buy airtime from a general dealer at a shopping complex in Oaklands, Verulam, accidentally crashed through the front doors of a bar.
The incident happened this morning.
Prem Balram, of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a private security company, said: "Members of Rusa arrived at the scene at approximately 9.09am and established that a blue Hyundai i10 crashed through the front doors of a bar that was closed for business.
"The woman, who was seated on a chair outside the premises after the incident, said she recalled turning onto the property, but lost consciousness."

"On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a white Mazda 323 down an embankment. The driver sustained minor injuries, and two passengers were pronounced deceased. Paramedics from RUSA & KZN VIP extracted the third male from the mangled wreckage," said RUSA. According to RUSA, the driver of the vehicle informed officers that he was travelling at high speed from Durban to Everest Heights when he lost control of the car. It was said that he further confirmed that he had consumed alcohol prior to the accident.

A KwaZulu-Natal man has allegedly been extorted of R70,000 by an escort after he declined her services. The man had made telephonic contact with the woman on Friday to inquire about her services. However, he had second thoughts, declined to make a booking and ended the conversation. He then started receiving threatening messages from the woman, who demanded money she called a 'time-wasting fee'. According to Reaction Unit SA (Rusa), whom the man contacted for help, the man initially refused to make the payment. 'The extortionist forwarded him pictures from his social media accounts and threatened to contact his family and inform them he attempted to solicit the services of an escort,' said Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram. 'The victim thereafter made three payments totalling R70,000 into three different bank accounts provided by the woman. The client [contacted] Rusa on Monday after he received demands for further payment of R25,000.' Balram said the man's bank accounts were depleted.

The incident, which took place in May, and has raised concerns not only over property crime but also about the employment of undocumented workers in South Africa. According to reports, the woman in question, identified only as "Ivyna", was captured on CCTV footage leaving her employer's residence. At the time, she was seen wheeling out of the home two large suitcases filled with expensive items. The homeowners, who were at work when she made her getaway, returned later to discover missing property, which included a laptop, mobile phones, expensive watches, designer bags, sports shoes, and the two suitcases.
